Story
Meet Pumpkin! This adorable little Doxen mix pup has lived in a loving home for the past 4 years. Sadly, his home situation has changed and his owners are unable to devote enough time to him following the birth of a baby with a complex medical condition. They believe it's in Pumpkin's best interest to find a home with someone who can provide him with the love and attention he deserves. When Pumpkin was adopted he was a timid pup around new people. His owners invested in formal training and worked on his socialization skills, having him go to doggy daycare once a week to expose him to new people and other dogs. While he is still shy at first, he is much better at meeting strangers and has always been good with other dogs. Pumpkin also does well as part of a pack. He loves to play and has a gentle play style. He tends to follow other dogs and assist in their shenanigans vs. being the instigator. Once he’s settled in, Pumpkin is very affectionate and connected to his humans. He wants nothing more than to be your cuddle buddy, and you’ll adore him. From his goofy grin to his love of squeaky toys and playing tug of war, Pumpkin is a special dog that will bring joy into your home. He is housetrained and crate-trained and knows many commands such as sit, stay, look at me, and come. He loves to go on walks and has pretty good leash skills. He’s smart, food-motivated, and picks up new skills quickly. Pumpkin has been living in a residential area of Baltimore that has some urban sounds like buses, sirens, and the occasional motorbike. He may bark at loud cars that drive by on walks, but he doesn’t cower in fear at loud sounds…so while he may not be a downtown dog, he’ll do fine in most DC metro communities. We feel Pumpkin will do best in a home with a family who has time to spend with him and will give him structure and routine. Pumpkin will growl and give warning when he's uncomfortable (i.e. at the vet) but has never tried to bite. We feel he will fit best in a calm home without young children. An active couple, empty nesters, or a family with older kids would be ideal for him. He loves spending time with his people, and his foster mom says he's a total love bug and very cuddly once he gets to know you. Apply today!
