Story
Lily arrived to us a few months ago as a hot mess express. Lily was underweight, dehydrated, a gaping wound on her hip, a gash on her neck, a hernia, a mammary mass & terrible teeth. Her first few weeks were resting up, gaining weight and preparing for needed surgeries. Lily did just that! Lily is hardly recognizable from the day she arrived to us. We think Lily is 9ish years old.
Lily first underwent a hernia repair & mammary mass removal in December. Both surgeries were successful! After a biopsy, we learned that the mammary tumor is a Grade I, low, carcinoma. While an unfortunate diagnosis, Lily's prognosis is great. She only has a 3.4% recurrent or metastasis rate. The surgeon got clear margins on the mass removal. Additionally, there are few to no reported deaths from this low Grade I (with 38 months of monitoring). What does this mean? Lily will hopefully cross the rainbow bridge years down the road from regular senior dogs stuff & enjoy a lovely life! There are not guarantees of course, but Lily is a happy & social girl very deserving of a fabulous home. Lily has had bloodwork & a chest x-ray, neither of which show or support any indication of spreading. We are happy to discuss her diagnosis and the prognosis further.
In January, Lily had an extensive dental where she lost 19 teeth. This was likely the greatest improvement to her overall health & she has recovered well. In a perfect world, Lily may not need another dental, particularly if some dental care is provided at home.
Outside her health improvements, Lily suffered from some separation anxiety in her early days. We also learned Lily does not love the crate. That has improved tremendously, in part to the hard work by her foster mom! We discovered Lily needs another fur companion as we believe her foster brother helped her overcome some of that anxiety. Lily also needs a family that is at least in & out during the day. Her foster mom does have a flexible schedule so they have built up to a few hours of alone time (with her foster brother). We think these two combinations are best for Lily.
Lily also loves to walk! Her foster mom has kept her active, even during her recovery periods by taking Lily in a stroller. As Lily has recovered from each surgery, she is back to walking! Her foster mom reports she walks about a mile with ease, so we are hopeful she lands in a home that will continue to get her out for walks.
Lily is a gentle soul but we have not exposed her to kids. We are happy to discuss a home with kids but it is unlikely Lily is suitable for a home with small children.
Lily is spayed, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. Lily is fostered in Raleigh. Lily's adoption fee is $300.
