Lady was dumped at a shelter in East Tennessee when her owner went into a nursing home, and no one in the family would take her. She is fine with other small dogs but prefers to be an only dog. You must be a strong pack leader, as she was allowed to run the house with her previous owner. Lady does take a bit to warm up to strangers. She was scared to death when she came to us, but after she had time to decompress, she became a happy, lovely girl. Lady loves sleeping in her fluffy, calming bed but would prefer to be with you in your bed. She also loves to share the recliner for a nap or to catch the latest movie. This little lady will even play a bit if you have another small dog, but mostly, she wants to keep your lap warm. But first, you must give her time to learn that you are okay and she is safe. Lady doesn’t like the rain or snow, so a puppy pad would be best for those days when she cannot go outside. Our must-haves for sweet Lady include: A fenced yard Needs an experienced dachshund owner! Someone who is home most of the time Another adult, small dog for her to pal around with No apartments or high-rises, as she will bark at strange noises If you think you want to give this sweet, beautiful girl her forever home, please complete our online adoption application. We will contact you after we call your vet. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. A former breeder dog, Myles is still learning how to trust people and other dogs but has come a long way since arriving at his foster home. He follows the other dog in his foster home around all the time and has learned a lot from her. Because of that, Myles must go to a home with another dog who he can continue to learn from. Once he feels comfortable with you, he'll follow you around, too, and will want to be with you. Myles would make a great addition to a family with older children and a dog he can hang out with. He’s a very sweet dog; he just needs a little time to feel comfortable with his new family. But he will get there! After only one week, Bandit has become part of the pack. He loves playing with toys and his brother (check out his video). It took him only a week to adjust and he is getting even more comfy each day. He cuddles and loves to get kisses. Bandit did sleep in the crate the first few nights here but started crying around 5:30 am. He currently sleeps in the bed with us and does great. He sleeps in late and barely moves around except to give more cuddles and kisses. Leash training is still a task, and some days are better than others. Bandit continues to do well in foster care. He loves to play and chase his foster brother, so a playmate is a must! He does love to bark, like many dachshunds do. He still gets nervous if you reach down when standing up, but he is doing so much better every day. Take a chance with this cutie, and you won't be sorry! Our must-haves for adorable Bandit include: A fenced yard Another young, small dog that is well socialized so he can learn from them Someone with patience or breeder dog experience who understands it is going to take time A single-family home only Someone who could be home more than not If you meet all these requirements and want to adopt, please go to our website and apply online. She loves palling around the fenced-in yard with her 3 foster sisters and barking at all the squirrels, deer, and wild turkeys. She gets very scared at any loud noise and will take off running, so a fenced yard is a must. Gretta loves to snuggle on the couch when you are relaxing. She will get all excited if she thinks it’s time to get on the couch! She is still very timid around strangers, which will take time and work. She has come a long way since coming to her foster home, but a lot of work still needs to be done to make Gretta a wonderful and loving pet. This little girl is worth every minute of it! BIO:   If you are looking for a young sweetie, look at Gretta!  Gretta came from Alabama when her owner was evicted from her home. A Good Samaritan took her so she would have a soft landing. Unfortunately, she was not well-socialized as a puppy and, therefore, is timid around strangers. She has gotten much better since coming into rescue, but the new adopters will need time and patience for her to come around. She has just had so many changes. If you give Gretta a chance, she will make a wonderful pet and companion! Our must-haves for sweet Gretta include: A fenced in yard Another young, small dog to play with and learn from Someone willing to take the time with Gretta so she can learn to trust and become a pet No apartments, high-rises, or condos; she would be very uncomfortable in these situations ============= Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
