You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Hello! My name's Ibar! Ibar is a charming little dog with a heart full of love. Despite a challenging start in life from a hoarding situation, he has proven to be resilient and sweet-natured. This adorable canine companion has a special affinity for toys and delights in playtime, especially with other dogs. Due to his past experiences, Ibar may initially appear shy, but underneath that hesitancy lies a gentle and affectionate soul. He is in the process of learning to trust and become more comfortable with people. Patience is key when interacting with Ibar, as he may take some time to warm up to new faces and situations. In the right environment, Ibar has the potential to blossom into a confident and happy pup. A caring and patient owner who understands his need for time and reassurance will be the perfect match for Ibar. With love and support, Ibar is sure to overcome his fears and embrace the joy that life has to offer. *He has had surgery for his cherry eyes twice but they have come back both times.*  You can apply to adopt our dogs at: https://www.pawfectmatch.org/info/adoptionVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 19, 2024, 11:33 am

Story
Meet Charlie -- an almost 2 year old chiweenie that is full of personality! Charlie first came into our rescue as a 6 month old puppy that had been obtained answering a Craigslist ad when he was just 6 weeks old. Because poor Charlie was pulled from his litter too soon and perhaps because he was never properly socialized -- we have worked hard with Charlie in the last year on socalization and training as he has been fostered by a professional dog trainer (who happens to also be one of his biggest fans). Charlie is a total lovebug 99% of the time (and actually in the right home, 100% of the time) and just needs a good home prepared to offer him the structure he needs! Charlie loves his person and other dogs -- and even does well with cats. Charlie takes some time to warm up to new people and just needs someone that will give him space when it is needed. Charlie does have a previous bite history -- bites that are understandable when you understand how sensitive Charlie is in moments of stress and anxiety. Charlie LOVES to do zoomies and loves to play with other small dogs. He is quite the comedian! He has thrived with his trainer -- who will help with his transition into a new home and will be available to assist Charlie's new adopters. Charlie is housetrained, crate trained and leash trained -- and has learned so much during his training with his foster home. Because of Charlie's previous history, we think that it is best if he not go to a home with children under 10 years of age.  Ironically Charlie can be quite the life of the party -- and can make you laugh so hard! He makes silly sounds, entertains himself with toys and loves to snuggle up in your lap for snuggles. Some of his quirks might be lifelong (but let's be honest -- we all have our quirks). We are so hoping that Charlie's forever home is out there with a Charlie size hole in their heart. We know how much love this boy has to give and we are looking forward to finding that home that is seeking a "diamond in the ruff" that they can watch continue to bloom! Charlie is current on vetting, neutered and microchipped -- waiting on his forever home to pop up any day now! ##1789418##

Story
Meet Vito, a 6 year old chiweenie that found himself at the doors local animal shelter and not very happy about the situation!  You may recognize him - he was on the hunt for a family back in the Summer.  Vito is back because he is cute & moody.  He needs a savvy home that is familiar with the likings of a moody small dog.  But once Vito learns the rules and you earn his respect, he is a lovely housemate. Vito is a very loving boy.  He does enjoy his human & spending time together.  He is a great housemate!  But Vito's love can turn a smidge grumpy at times & his new family will need to navigate.  For example, Vito loves to sit & take up all the space on his foster mom's lap.  But when the smushfest is over, Vito may not be ready for it to end & can be grumpy in gaining his cooperation.  Vito's foster mom is currently using a leash to encourage him to do the things he needs to & the process is working beautifully.  She will happily teach you her techniques.  His foster mom reports he is responding positively to her rules! Put simply - Vito is a guy's guy.  Vito prefers the male in his home over everyone else.  He can co-exist with others but he will give his love & loyalty to his man friend & you will simply have to accept it!   To his make human, he will worship you - wait for you in your recliner, mope around waiting for you & then celebrate your arrival.  Vito is textbook man's best friend! Vito is calm and relaxed — and enjoys long walks.  He is a great walker but can be reactive on a leash toward other dogs.  This is manageable & with work, can diminish.  Vito does need a fenced backyard.  Some of his moodiness may be stored up energy & his foster mom believes a yard he can run in is best for him expending the energy.  Vito does enjoy walks and outings, but he may not be the dog that would enjoy many large social outings.  He will prefer the comfort of his home, his yard & his routine.   Vito gets along well with other dogs but prefers them to be more on his level of activity (quiet and calm) versus hyper and playful (though he has proven that at times he loves to do zoomies in the backyard).  He is being fostered with a very bossy female dachshund that is the leader of the pack - Vito Cooper does not challenge her & has learned his role! Vito has nipped before & some of his low grumbles are likely his form of communication, but because of this, we will not place him in a home with children under the age of 12.  Vito does grumble - sometimes it is just his way of saying hello and sometimes he is telling you he is not happy.  You learn his speech & if we are honest (granted we are not normal people here at DBPR!), we love a pup that communicates, so Vito's grumbling is endearing.  But his new family will need to earn his respect by setting boundaries for him & also allowing him to be himself.  It's a balance that we know can be reached.  Vito & his foster parents have struck this balance and will gladly show you the ropes. Vito is current on vaccines, heartworm negative and has been neutered with a full dental polish at the same time.  He is fostered on the NC coast so any perspective family will need to travel to the area.  We prefer adopters within a few hour radius of NC in neighboring states.  His adoption fee is $300.   Vito recognizes he is not the easiest kid to find a new home.  That reality does not upset him!  He always wanted us to remind you that you too are moody & grumble when people make you mad - so don't judge him!  But in all seriousnesses, we are seeking a savvy home that will accept his quirks & work with them; one that will have a human that is his pack leader & will set boundaries; and defintely one that will provide him the stability he has never had and love him endlessly.  Even the difficult ones are worth it! ##2099677##

Story
Meet Frankie -- one of our super seniors that is 13-15 years in age. Truly we do not know Frankie's age as he found us after being in a shelter. When Frankie first entered our rescue in early 2023, he was emaciated with horrible dental disease and fairly anemic. At that time Frankie's foster momma described him as "Happy Frankie Boy" because he was always wagging his tail. Frankie was soon adopted into a home and recently returned by his adopter when his more senior ways no longer fit her schedule. Frankie has certainly aged since he was with us but one thing is for sure -- he still loves to be close and will still wag his tail when he is happy! Just like any other senior dog -- Frankie has earned his right to be very decisive about when he wants attention. Frankie is a little wobbly when he walks so we believe he had a previous back injury that either resulted in a surgery or simply resolved leaving him with a signature "swagger"! Because of this injury (or just perhaps because Frankie is very decisive about what he wants), Frankie is not very comfortable being picked up. He prefers to keep his feet on the ground. In the times that his foster momma needs to pick him up, she simply (and calmly) reassures him, gently picks him up on both sides and lifts him to where he needs to get (generally it is up the step in the living room so that he can follow her around). He tolerates that just fine and knows she will be gentle. If she moves too fast, Frankie will snap to remind her he fears it might hurt. Frankie is also very decided about the time in his bed and when he is sleeping -- he does not want to be disturbed and will remind you that he will tell you when he wants your love! All in all, Frankie will definitely lead you to what he wants! Frankie is SUCH a sweet fellow. He loves to get scratches on his back and head -- and will even give kisses occasionally to tell you he truly appreciates your care. When his foster momma is working on the computer he sits on her feet to remind her that he is near. He loves to poke around in the yard -- being sure to not leave any leaf unturned. For the times when Frankie's foster family has to be away, Frankie isn't the biggest fan but he will settle in his dog bed and snooze the day away until they return. Frankie is not a fan of being busy -- he is long past his days of wanting romps at the dog park or long walks -- he prefers his home and his blanket filled bed (and his foster mom near). At night, Frankie sleeps in his dog bed through the night as long as you give him a night light (Frankie is afraid of the ghosts that dance in the dark apparently -- if you do not leave a light on, he will bark to remind you). Frankie is in the harder days of senior care -- his potty habits are not the best but belly bands help so much! Pooping isn't always on an outside target -- and he apologizes for that! But he can be kept on a good schedule to make his potty times more reliable so that you can take him out frequently. When Frankie is up and moving around, he will tell you he is ready to go outside by barking in an insistent manner at the door (any door will do)! Amazingly, Frankie is healthy for his age and not currently on any medication. He was put on heart meds when he first came into our rescue but at the time he was very skinny and anemic so it is thought that since he has regained weight and gotten healthy -- a heart murmur can no longer be detected so the heart medication has been stopped. We also do not think Frankie is in any pain, we simply think that he remembers that pain he was in at one time and he anticipates it when you move fast picking him up or bother him when he is sleeping. Frankie is find with other like-minded dogs -- he isn't going to play but he might lay with another senior dog from time to time. He certainly doesn't mind their company but prefers they not get in his face or attempt any shenanigans (Frankie is about old man games...not young kids tom-foolery). We are sad to have Frankie back but we know an angel out there reading has a special place in their home and heart for this sweet boy! He is a great companion on his terms and he loves to know you are around. Frankie needs: A quiet home (please no children as he truly has rules about when he wants to be touched and children often do not understand those rules). A home that is prepared to lift him when needed with the rules his foster mom has established (these are not hard rules to follow). A home with very few stairs as his wobbly gait has a tough time navigating stairs. A home prepared to love him until his final day -- even when that means caring for a sweet old man and his senior ways! We always hope that our adopters are prepared for senior days -- but in this case, Frankie always had us as his safety net (as do all of our dogs) when adoptive homes are no longer a fit. A home that understands you have to move at Frankie's pace, even when that means slowing down and taking time to explain to him that you will be gentle! We get that Frankie is well beyond his cute puppy days -- but he is no less deserving of deep love. His care is harder but far more rewarding when he comes and plops on your foot while you work at the computer to tell you he loves you! Our Frankie boy truly needs the most fabulous forever home! Because of his age and need for a super special home - Frankie's adoption fee has been waived. ##1656066##
