Story
Hello all! This is Poppy and she came to us as a stray, so we do not know much about her history unfortunately. It has been noted that Poppy can display some resource guarding behavior when it comes to high value objects, like food or toys. Due to this, she may do better in a home without young children. As always we recommend slow and monitored introductions between Poppy and any other animals or people in the home, over a period of time. We also recommend feeding & placing her toys in her own little spot so that she does not feel the need to guard as much, especially if there are other animals in the home. Dolly is a sweet and affectionate lady who would love to find her forever home with a family that can be patient with her and spoil her rotten!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Hello! My name's Ibar! Ibar is a charming little dog with a heart full of love. Despite a challenging start in life from a hoarding situation, he has proven to be resilient and sweet-natured. This adorable canine companion has a special affinity for toys and delights in playtime, especially with other dogs. Due to his past experiences, Ibar may initially appear shy, but underneath that hesitancy lies a gentle and affectionate soul. He is in the process of learning to trust and become more comfortable with people. Patience is key when interacting with Ibar, as he may take some time to warm up to new faces and situations. In the right environment, Ibar has the potential to blossom into a confident and happy pup. A caring and patient owner who understands his need for time and reassurance will be the perfect match for Ibar. With love and support, Ibar is sure to overcome his fears and embrace the joy that life has to offer. *He has had surgery for his cherry eyes twice but they have come back both times.*  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 10:52 am

Story
Meet Charlie -- an almost 2 year old chiweenie that is full of personality! Charlie first came into our rescue as a 6 month old puppy that had been obtained answering a Craigslist ad when he was just 6 weeks old. Because poor Charlie was pulled from his litter too soon and perhaps because he was never properly socialized -- we have worked hard with Charlie in the last year on socalization and training as he has been fostered by a professional dog trainer (who happens to also be one of his biggest fans). Charlie is a total lovebug 99% of the time (and actually in the right home, 100% of the time) and just needs a good home prepared to offer him the structure he needs! Charlie loves his person and other dogs -- and even does well with cats. Charlie takes some time to warm up to new people and just needs someone that will give him space when it is needed. Charlie does have a previous bite history -- bites that are understandable when you understand how sensitive Charlie is in moments of stress and anxiety. Charlie LOVES to do zoomies and loves to play with other small dogs. He is quite the comedian! He has thrived with his trainer -- who will help with his transition into a new home and will be available to assist Charlie's new adopters. Charlie is housetrained, crate trained and leash trained -- and has learned so much during his training with his foster home. Because of Charlie's previous history, we think that it is best if he not go to a home with children under 10 years of age.  Ironically Charlie can be quite the life of the party -- and can make you laugh so hard! He makes silly sounds, entertains himself with toys and loves to snuggle up in your lap for snuggles. Some of his quirks might be lifelong (but let's be honest -- we all have our quirks). We are so hoping that Charlie's forever home is out there with a Charlie size hole in their heart. We know how much love this boy has to give and we are looking forward to finding that home that is seeking a "diamond in the ruff" that they can watch continue to bloom! Charlie is current on vetting, neutered and microchipped -- waiting on his forever home to pop up any day now! ##1789418##

Story
Woodrow Chiweenie 9 (ish) years old 12 pounds Fostered in Raleigh Short list: Sweet, snuggly, protective, housetrained, loves to walk, no kids under 10, needs good introductions for new people coming into the home, no apartments/condos, gets along with other dogs of all sizes, could be only dog, good with cats Here are 10 reasons you should adopt Woodrow: 1. You want to be loved to the moon and back. This boy falls head over heels in love and he lets you know it every possible. Once he picks you, you are the most special person in the world. And he throws a ticker tape parade when you come home. 2. You want a constant companion. This guy wants to be with you so much he not only follows you everywhere, he comes into the bathroom and sits on the mat to wait for you while you take a shower. He draws the line at coming into the water with you, but we are pretty sure it’s crossed his mind. 3. You love to walk. This dude is great a leash and loves to walk (and walk and walk). The more walking Woodrow does, the less energy he has to plot his world takeover. There is currently some debate between Woodrow and his foster dad about whether his plan is a fabulous or terrible idea. 4. You are a leader. Woodrow does best when he doesn’t have the huge burden of being in charge of the universe, at least in his mind. Once he knows that you’ve got all the problems of the world and that you in fact the leader of his world, then he becomes a more confident and relaxed dog. Preferably, you’ve been the leader to a stubborn chiweenie or dachshund in the past. But we are open to anyone who is willing to set (and keep boundaries). 5. You need a security guard. Or at least are not opposed to the idea. Woodrow wants to protect his people and will bark at well, everything. Cars, dogs, people. But once you assure him that all is good, sometimes with a squirt bottle, then he chills out. Except when it comes to vacuum cleaners. He is convinced that they are evil and planning to take over the world. We are pretty sure he will never change is mind and will continue to attack all vacuum cleaners till the end of time. 6. You are willing to do good introductions with new people. All this love and devotion also has a downside – Woodrow is wary of new people coming into his home. But if you do a slow introduction and let him know that your new friend is not going to tie everyone up in the basement and rob the place, then within a few minutes Woodrow will be happily taking treats while sitting on their lap. 7. You want a playful dog. This guy is hilarious. And he loves to play and will have put a toy into your hand when he thinks it’s playtime. His favorite is tug of war, but pretty much any toy or game will do. But we think his zoomies are the absolutely hilarious – no worries, they aren’t all the time but when he gets in the mood, we promise it will make you laugh. 8. You want a dog that knows how to relax. When playtime is over, this guy knows how to take it easy. He’s a master at snuggling under the blankets or finding the perfect spot in the sun. 9. You want to adopt a dog with a great story. Woodrow was found as a stray in a rural county and landed in a very full shelter. He was sitting a crate stacked in the hallway. And his name was on euthanasia list. Thankfully, a volunteer reached out and we got him safe. 10. You want to adopt an amazing dog. Woodrow isn’t for everyone. But for the right person, they are going to fall head over heels with this guy and declare he’s the world’s best dog. He will be your side kick and your best friend till the end of time. Woodrow is UTD on shots, heartworm negative neutered, had a dental cleaning, and microchipped. His new family will need to travel to Raleigh to adopt him – no transports. We prefer to adopt to NC, VA, SC and DC area. To get the process started of bringing Woodrow into your family, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application And if Woodrow isn't a fit for you, please share with your friends and family to help this handsome boy find his five-star forever home. ##2068045##
