Meet Earl Grey... our little wire coated Dachshund, who through no fault of his own is needing a forever home. Earl Grey came to us an an abandonment case from Animal Control. Poor boy... he was a mess! He was very thin, barely had any coat, he desperately needed a dental, and he had a pendulous growth on his chest that needed removal. It has taken quite a few months, but this wonderful little gentleman is finally ready to find his forever home!
We believe that Earl Grey is what is considered to be a black and tan dapple, Silky Wirehaired Dachshund. His charcoal and silver coat, which now is full and fluffy, is soft and not wiry. He is now at his perfect weight, about 15-lbs. We are guessing that he is about 12 years-old... since he came to us from Animal Control, we have no way of being certain.
Even though Earl Grey is a senior, he's still a very active boy... he loves going for walks, and rides well in the car. We are looking for a family for Earl Grey who is active and will take him for walks and on new adventures. Since he rides so well, he would be a good companion for a family who likes to travel and will take along their canine buddy.
Earl Grey gets along with everyone... other dogs (both big and small), adults, children, and he even gets along with the resident cat in his foster home. He even will wrestle and play with one of his foster buddies. A home with another dog, or one without, will be fine for Earl Grey, as long as he has human companionship... either someone who works from home or a young retiree, so Earl Grey can get plenty of TLC and won't be left alone during the day.
Earl Grey is well housetrained and crate trained. He walks well on a leash and will even 'potty' while on a leash if not in a fenced area. A fenced yard would be preferable for him, but would not be necessary if his family will take him out on a regular schedule.
Earl Grey is neutered, current on his Distemper/Parvo and Rabies vaccines, microchipped, had bloodwork done, tested negative for Heartworms, and is on heartworm prevention. He does have cataracts, so we took him to an ophthalmologist to look into surgery, but he felt that Earl Grey would not go blind, and should be treated with drops administered daily in both eyes.
Earl Grey's adoption fee is $400.00. We accept checks or cash for adoption fees... sorry, we do not take cards.
Earl Grey is a loving, active, and smart little boy who deserves only the best home and family! If you feel that Earl Grey would be a good match for your family, please submit an application by going to our website foreverhomek9rescue.org for an application and email the completed application to us at foreverhomek9rescue@yahoo.com. Forever Home Canine Rescue offers a three-week trial period with all of our adoptions, just to be sure that the pet is a good match for the adopting family. The fee is refunded if the adoption does not work out within the trial period. We want to be sure that each of our pets will have their perfect 'forever' home!
Although Forever Home Canine Rescue adopts out-of-state, we never ship or transport our pets. An approved adopter must come to North Carolina to meet their new canine companion and then take him/her back home with them.
