Story
We have had a doxie shortage around here for a while but finally have this gem! Well, technically she’s a chiweenie but definitely heavier on the weenie 🌭, just with slightly longer legs. Layla is a 14 month old sweetheart. A little timid at first but a sweet playful puppyish girl who warms up fast. She was never taken outside or put on a leash and was just trained on wee wee pads, so will need some work on leash-training and housebreaking (probably putting wee wee pads outside to start as she definitely knows and targets them). She likes other dogs, but plays rough and her best friend growing up was a German Shepherd, is about 16lbs full grown, and seeing a vet for the first time this week and getting spayed. If you are a doxie lover, you are sure to fall in love with this sweetheart. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Layla in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Lola! This very sweet and spunky girl is very skittish and distrustful with new people, but has really blossomed in her foster home. We believe she is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix and has many personality traits that we think will appeal to the Chihuahua people out there. This girl is not only beautiful, but is also housebroken, crate trained and knows several commands. She'd also be perfect for those hot summer months and cold winter months, since though she loves to be outside, she's not super fond of lengthy walks. Once she chooses her person and bonds she's silly, playful, cuddly and loyal, the perfect work from home companion who loves to sit on your lap and help with whatever you are doing. She's not a fan of other animals, children, or strangers especially men although she's been able to make friends with them if they ignore her at first and offer lots of yummy treats- intros have to be slow and on her terms. If you like quirky but lovable little dogs, please submit an application to meet her. Primary Color: Tan Age: 2yrs 3mths 3wks

Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: MustardBREED: DachshundDOB: Jun 12, 2025 (5 months)GENDER: maleHome Recommendation: Mustard is a very loving and gentle dog who truly thrives on human interaction and affection. An ideal home for him would be one where someone is around often, values quality time with their pet, and can provide a warm, nurturing environment. In return, he offers unwavering loyalty, comfort, and endless love to the family lucky enough to welcome him.Personality: Mustard is full of love and affection. He enjoys cuddles and kisses, has a very gentle nature, and thrives on attention and companionship. Being close to people makes him happiest, and he forms strong, loving bonds with those around him. His sweet and calm demeanor makes him a wonderful companion who brings warmth and comfort wherever he goes.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Mustard does excellent in the crate and sleeps there without any issues, clearly understanding when its time for bed. Leash training is still a work in progress, but he is making steady improvements and often learns by mimicking his foster siblings, which has been very helpful. He is doing great with pee pad training and continues to make progress each day. Mustard is also responding well to basic commands such as sit, stay, and hand touch, showing that he is eager to learn and please.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Mustard were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Story
Charming CHAMP is a middle-aged guy who likes mellow walks and quiet time with his human. He LOVES to snuggle and at 15 lbs he fits wonderfully in a lap. We estimate him to be a Dachshund / Terrier mix and about 7-9 years old. He would do best in a quiet household without children or other pets. Champ can be very protective of his people and home, so he would prefer to be your one and only - no other pets or children. Any interested applicants will need to come to the shelter to spend some time with him before adoption to understand his behaviors and how to best support him to have a happy home. The volunteers at ARF love him to bits and know he will be a wonderful buddy for the right person!

Story
Located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders. This girl was brought in with babies when her owner couldn't take care of her. She was not socialized very well so will need some work. She will need a very patient person to get her to come out of her shell. She was kept outside so she has no house manners, nor has she been with cats. She does do well with dogs her size and seems to like to play with them. She deserves a new chance to be a loved dog and companion. She will take a lot of time and investment but deserves a chance!
