Story
Sheldon is a four and a half year old mix breed, possibly Yorkie and Dachshund. We started him on a weight management diet ( he's a bit pudgy at 20 lbs). In his heart, Sheldon is a sweet, loving little guy. Regretfully, something in his past, of which we know almost nothing, has made him distrustful and snappish. What we do know of his past, he was surrendered by his owner at three and a half years of age with raw feet and large spots of missing hair on his back from an untreated flea infestation. The fleas are long gone and the hair has grown back, gaining his trust has been another story. After several months in a foster home he has come to adore his foster mom. She is allowed to do just about anything, even baths! For nails he goes to a groomer and really doesn't put up a fuss. He is normally fine with his foster dad, but less trustful and has bit him, nothing horrible, more of a warning. Sheldon gets along OK with the resident dog. He would, however, would probably prefer being an only pet. We know it's a long shot but Sheldon needs a home of his very own. We feel he'd do well with an experienced dog owner, someone who is loving, compassionate and would allow as much time as necessary to gain his trust. Sheldon has been OK with adult visitors. He will bark at them until they sit down, then he'll approach for pets. We do not trust him around children. He's put in a room with a gate when kids visit. When no one is home he's happy in his crate with a special treat. He will bark to alert you if he hears something. Therefore an apartment or condo would not be a suitable living arrangement. Sheldon loves to go outside to chase the squirrels, sniff around for other critters and he likes you to stay out with him. He does not like the rain or the snow. He enjoys being brushed and then rolling around on the floor to mess it all up again. He lives to sit in your lap so you can gently rub his ears. If you think you might be interested in adopting Sheldon, please take the time to fill out an application. Sheldon is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Sheldon’s adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in adopting, then please go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Click on Adoption Application. Submit your completed application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. Meetings are by appointment only with a reviewed adoption application. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and serve the Chicago metropolitan area. We do not ship dogs.

Story
Hitch is currently 9 years old (guessed by the adoption center two years ago). He is the sweetest companion that loves to be the center of attention. He has his spurts of playfulness but mostly loves to nap, cuddle, and sniff outside. Please apply to give hime a new home. Due to working and going to school full time I am unable to find someone to take care of him when I am away. Soon I’ll have no choice but to take him to a shelter.

Story
Myrtle is living in a foster home. Fill out our quick adoption survey, and then we can set up a phone call or meet and greet with the foster! Myrtle is: Spayed: Not yet. She will be spayed at a later date, and a $50 refundable spay deposit will be required. Up to date on vaccines: Yes! Microchipped: Yes! Our microchips will automatically register when an adoption is finalized - Currently taking medication for anxiety support, heart disease, and allergies - Having her mammary masses and dental disease regularly monitored, as she is not a candidate for surgery/anesthesia at this time - Heartworm positive and on activity restriction. Myrtle has been undergoing treatment at Ellis Clinic at no charge to the adopter. Heartworm is a treatable disease that most dogs make a full recovery from. You can learn more about heartworm treatment on our resource page -https://www.onetail.org/heartworm/ More about Myrtle: Housebroken: Yes! Crate trained: She has only free roamed when home alone, and can take some time to settle due to stress. She has been doing better with the help of medication, but can still howl for a bit before settling. Leash walking: Doing well overall, but can sometimes bark at other dogs she sees on walks Dog social: She has been selective with her dog pals and has seemed more comfortable with smaller dogs. She would do best with slow introductions to well-matched dogs. Cat social: Unknown, but she has been fine regularly passing a feral cat on walks Kid friendly: Likely not a match, as she can be nervous around new people Myrtle likes: - Rolling around in the grass - Giving you kisses in the morning - Sitting in your lap while you work Myrtle is a hilariously sassy senior gal who loves to be with her trusted people. Once she bonds with you, she wants to be by your side (or in your lap), giving you kisses and cuddling with you. She has shown some nervousness around strangers, especially when visiting her home space, and will need an adopter who can give her plenty of time, space, and treats when meeting new people. Given that she does not love being home alone, she would appreciate a calmer and quieter home where her person is home more often than not. She has some medical needs that require medication and vet support, so her adopter should also be comfortable with handling her ongoing care. Myrtle's adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous supporter, and she is eager to spend her golden years in her forever home! Next steps: Email adopt@onetail.org with questions, or submit an application online and we'll be in touch to schedule a meeting: https://www.onetail.org/apply-to-adopt/ *** Our adoption application stays on file for one year and can apply to any dog in our program. Once the app is submitted you will receive an email within 48-72 hours. For additional questions, email adopt@onetail.org ***

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Miss Maggie is a typical fabulous doxie (maybe a little Yorkie mixed in). She’s bold, curious, vocal and has a little swagger in her walk (despite the fact that she is a senior dog at age 11). And, she still loves to play (don't let her age fool you) especially with her foster brother, minidoodle. She gets along with all dogs of all sizes. And, because she is so friendly would do well in any home with or without other dogs. She likes to explore and is not shy about cuddling right up to you for some snuggles and kisses. She loves food and is very excited about soft snacks, chicken and peanut butter. Maggie would make a great companion or addition to your pack. Come meet Maggie and make her a part of your family.  ##2190448##
