Story
f you are interested in Axel, please respond with information about yourself(home, family, other pets, yard/fence, work hours). Although Axel is NOT with our rescue, we are helping his family find a great home for him. NO phone calls, please. What a gorgeous red head!! Axel is every bit lovable as he is adorable. He had initially came from a breeding situation that had to give him up due to their own family issues. Luckily he went to a loving rescue home that has cared for him in his time of need. He has lived with other dogs, kids and even cats. We are told Axel is very sweet and loving, and he give the very best hugs!! He is just two years old, and perhaps did not have a lot of training in his young life. So, he is now working to perfect his housebreaking skills. For the time being his family has him wearing a belly band to prevent marking in the house. He will get it, with a little patience and consistency Axel will understand. He will do well in a home that has previous dachshund experience. They are a wonderful breed, but like all purebreds, they can have their own unique issues and needs. Axel is neutered, up to date on his shots and ready for his very own family. His adoption fee is $500, please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Shaggy, a lively, 10yr old, Dachshund/yorkie/chihuahua mix with plenty of energy and affection for any family.  He gets along with some dogs, he does better if the resident dog is already established in his home.  He hasn't really lived with cats but at events he doesn't seem to even notice them so he would probably not care much about them.  Shaggy enjoys perching on top of the couch to survey his home, cuddling with humans, and observing all the household activities.  Though he is not very interested in toys, this might be due to his recent dental procedure.  He will also need a diet of softer foods.  He was neutered at the age of 10 so he does still need work with his marking tendencies but does well with a belly band.  Shaggy is also good on a leash and enjoys going for walks.  He is also crate trained.  He is a velcro dog, extreme version, and he does not do well being separated from his person.  He would do best in a home where someone is there most of the time and he is a barker so he might not be a good fit for someone who shares a wall.  He had a rough last decade and will need someone who will be patient and work with him on his separation anxiety and training.  He is fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400 To adopt Shaggy, email us at kakf3133@gmail.comVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 1, 2025, 6:23 pm

Story
There's cute and then there's Ricky cute.  This dog is unbelievably cute.  Like, we should invent another word to describe him because cute isn't enough, cute.  It almost doesn't matter how I represent him, his little face will melt your heart.  But here are his stats: He's about 12 pounds, male, approximately 1 year old, and likely a "Chiweenie" (mix of Dachshund and Chihuahua)  Ricky is super friendly and chill.  He always wants to be with his people and would do well in most families, though he has not been around very small children yet.  He only barks occasionally when he is worried or anxious.  For a little dog, he's pretty quiet.  Ricky is working on housetraining, we believe as a stray he probably didn't spend much of his life indoors.  He's smart and he's catching on.  He loves food and is very motivated by treats. Ricky wants to play with the resident cat and will chase him, but the cat is almost double his weight, so it's not exactly a fair match.  In time, Rick would get used to a feline sibling.  Ricky has traditional dachshund coloring on top and it makes him look like a coon hound shrunk down to about one foot tall.  If you like miniatures, Ricky will make your day.  He even has a little tiny hound dog bay.  His floppy ears get stuck on his head all the time and that is just a sampling of the adorable antics this dog gets up to.  Pictures don't really do him justice, you really need to meet him in person, so apply today! If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 3, 2025, 9:07 pm
