Story
A SHY BUT FRIENDLY FELLOW:  Approx. 9 years old / Approx. 14 lbs.  Hi, I’m Anton!  I came to Mostly Mutts from a home that had a lot of dogs! We needed help when our dad had to go into Hospice care, so Mostly Mutts was able to take me, and quite a few more into their program. Now I’m ready to find a new home and family of my very own!  I needed a good dental cleaning which I have received thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization!  I’m enjoying my time in a great foster home while I wait for my furever family to find me. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression.  I came in with other dogs that I’m a little bossy with though, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may fall on me.    • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  My previous owner described me as a shy but sweet fellow.  The volunteers knew to just go slowly with me and sure enough, I warmed up pretty quickly.  I got the reputation of being the ‘boss of the doxies’ around the shelter.  I have a confidence about me and an energetic spirit you are sure to love.  You are also sure to love my sweet, gentle demeanor, which I displayed during my shelter bath – being a real trooper during a pretty thorough ear cleaning.  I’m also quite crafty and reportedly can scale a fence, making me a potential escape artist, so please don’t leave me in the yard unattended until you know that I will not leave.  I’ve gotten into some things that don’t belong to me in my foster home, even showing that I know how to open doors.  I need to be watched closely and not left unattended in the home until I understand what is expected of me.  / My energy level is 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer!  Check back soon to see what I've learned. / The crate is new to me, so I am working on that now - I get a bit anxious in there and have been having accidents while I’m in my crate.  My foster family is trying to make it a more comfortable/positive experience for me. At bedtime, I get to sleep with my fosters, and I love that!  I hope my new family will let me do this with them. /  I have good potty manners in my foster home while I am outside of my crate, however I potty in my crate.  My foster is working on this with me and is teaching me that my crate isn’t scary.  I also don’t like to potty outside when the grass is wet, so please be patient with me in this scenario.  Please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can fully master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  As I warm up to you, I love to collect belly rubs.  I’m happiest with you - lying by your side on the couch or in bed!  Fuzzy blankets are the best, and I love to burrow into them for a nap.  I’ve not really shown interest in toys yet, but perhaps you can show me how much fun they can be. / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I am currently taking an inexpensive anxiety medication to help me with the anxiety I experience when in my crate.  I also had a fatty mass removed and I’m healing up nicely from that now, and a good dental cleaning.  Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I am looking for a great home with a loving family for life!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  December 27, 2024, 9:28 am

Story
SWEET, SHY & NEEDS PATIENCE:  Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 13 lbs. Hi, I’m Elsa!  I came to Mostly Mutts from a home that had a lot of dogs that weren’t properly socialized.  We needed help when our dad had to go into hospice care, so Mostly Mutts was able to take me, and quite a few other dogs into their program. Now I’m ready to find a new home and family of my own that understands my situation and will give me lots of time to settle into my new home.  I was adopted for 2 days but returned when I bit my mom over being picked up quickly when I just wasn’t ready for that, and I was so afraid. So, I need a family that will be patient with me and will give me lots of time to feel safe and secure in my new home.  I needed a good dental cleaning which I received thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization! I just went into a wonderful foster home and will be working on my socialization.  Ask how that’s going.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression.  I came in with other dogs that I liked too, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids at Mostly Mutts, but due to my fearful nature, and bite risk, Mostly Mutts recommends calm teenagers only, so if you have kids like this, let’s meet. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am very scared but also very sweet once you give me time to get comfortable with you.  Please don’t rush me, as I just wasn’t socialized properly in my previous home, so I need time to feel safe and comfortable with people.  Once comfortable, I seek out attention and am a friendly girl who is getting used to being loved.  I’m not used to being picked up, held and loved – but I am getting there with patience and not being rushed!  I’ve spent a good part of my life being a momma dog.  Now, I am looking forward to that being behind me and just being a loved family member! / My energy level is currently 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer!  Check back soon to see what I've learned. / I am new to the crate. / I've been having some accidents on the shelter schedule, so please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  Once I know and trust you, I enjoy neck and head rubs, and – though I am not interested in toys, I bet you can show me how much fun they can be. / I don’t want to be rushed into a relationship as I need extra time.  I would not be happy in a home with a lot of commotion or too many people coming and going as I need a nice quiet home.  I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training once I feel at home. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  You’ll notice that my right pupil doesn’t contract properly.  It’s a congenital condition and I can see out of the eye with a little vision loss in that eye.  Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I’m getting medicated baths twice a week for a little while to help with my skin and these can be done in my new home with patience.  (I’ve done well with these at MM with the bather who is kind and gentle with me and gives me time to get used to her.) I’ve started an anxiety medication to help me with the stress I’m feeling.   I am looking for a wonderful patient family to give me a living furever home!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  December 24, 2024, 8:26 am

Story
A SWEET SENIOR LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL:  Approx. 15 years old / Approx. 14 lbs. Hi, my name is Macy!  I had a great home with a mommy who loved me very much, but – sadly – she passed away, and her family couldn’t keep me, so I am in great need of a new home. Mostly Mutts is looking for a senior-loving person or family to adore and spoil me rotten for the rest of my life – long or short.  If you have a heart for the seniors, I’m your girl.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  There are dogs in my foster home, and I simply ignore them, so if you have a dog that won’t want to play and will just coexist with me, let’s meet! / I’ve not met cats in my foster home, but – my foster feels that I would likely do fine with them if they left me alone. / Due to my age, and over enthusiasm of people food, mature kids such as 15+ would be the best match for me and – of course, let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a sweet senior girl who is a doll.  I don’t play anymore, but I do occasionally romp around my foster’s home/yard and sure do have a lot of love to give.  My foster reports that I’m easy going and just want to hang out with my person, nap in a comfy doggie bed and watch the world go by. I’m the perfect lap dog on a cold winter day! I am very food motivated and take food way too enthusiastically, so I should not be hand fed at all – just drop whatever you would like to give me into my food bowl, and I’ll be a happy camper. My foster will talk to you and tell you all about me! / My energy level is 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I don’t know any specific skills, though my foster says I get the gold medal for my sleeping talent! Lol. / In my foster home, I fuss for just a minute when put in my crate but then I give up and settle in. / I am not potty trained, so my foster uses a diaper with me. If you choose not to use a diaper, I would do best in an area with easy to clean floors! • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like to be held, and I like multiple comfy dog beds in my home.  Car rides are nice, and I am used to them, so let me tag along when you are out and about sometimes – I just fall asleep on the floorboard. / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, good care and attention. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  I have a grade 3 heart murmur, for which I take Vetmedin twice daily. I easily take this medication in a little piece of cheese dropped into my food bowl (not hand fed).  I also have a fatty mass under my arm on my left side that doesn’t bother me, and I hope it doesn’t bother you either. I had a dental cleaning so my mouth is fresh again. Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I am looking for a home where I will be a much loved and deservedly spoiled family member.  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.   December 27, 2024, 9:28 am

A SWEET YOUNG GUY:  Approx. 1 year old / Approx. 20 lbs. Hi there, I’m Nicky!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and I’m sure happy to be here!  I don’t recall how I ended up without a home, but I’m happy to have a new opportunity to find a great family – perhaps with you?   • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I want to be your only dog as I’m not fond of other dogs. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  The nice volunteers describe me as very sweet, a little shy, happy, playful, fun, friendly and handsome. / My energy level is 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer!  So far, I know the ‘sit’ command. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / I’m having some accidents on the shelter schedule, so please keep me on a good take-out schedule with positive reinforcement so I can master my potty manners.  • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love belly rubs, going for walks, giving kisses and playing with toys. I’m sure we will find lots of other things we like doing together, too. / Other than other dogs, I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. If you’re looking for a wonderful little friend, I could be just the one.  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 2, 2025, 7:50 am

Story
Right? Can you EVEN with that sweet look on his face? Buddy Ross is a total nugget; we kind of love him - but yeah, we love them alllll, so there's that. Through no fault of his own, Buddy comes to DREAM after his previous owner became unable to care for him. He's been loved his whole life, and he has a lot of love to give. He enjoys playing with toys, and gets on well with other dogs. We aren't sure about cats. Buddy is a people dog, for sure. He loves grownups and kids, and he gets along with his canine foster brothers & sisters. He wants nothing more than to be in your lap, giving you kisses. His soulful eyes will make you feel like he sees and understands everything. Buddy is an Isabella dachshund (silvery blue fur) and like most Isabellas, he has some hair loss aka alopecia. He has grown some hair since coming to DREAM and being fed quality kibble. He has a section of fur on his neck that looks like a necktie. What a jaunty little guy! He doesn't take medicine for it, but would need sun protection like anyone else if he were exposed to the elements. Buddy Ross is NOT a fan of doggo sweaters but does enjoy snuggling in a bed and under a blanket. He's accustomed to using wee-pads to do his biznezz, but we're working on getting him used to the idea of fertilizing the grass instead of going inside. He's a champ at wearing belly bands which his foster mom refers to as his “gym shorts”. When he’s wearing his gym shorts he doesn’t wet them so maybe he just loves making a fashion statement?. He is also crate trained. Buddy loves squeaky toys and bones of all kinds. (He is also a sneaky thief of paper towels and napkins. 😅 The ideal home for Buddy would be someone who wants a constant companion. If you're looking for a friendly, low-key, playful, "your own little shadow" companion look no further than Buddy Ross. Complete an application right online. If you are interested in adopting Buddy Ross, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Buddy Ross's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Buddy Ross will go to his new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. We've also given him a dental for sweet kissy breath. Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter
