Story
*** Kiddo  is currently in a foster home in New Jersey. Applications for  Kiddo  should be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to Register or Login). Questions about  Kiddo  and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Her foster mom writes:  She needs time to decompress from living at the rescue but she  is smart and picking up on the routine.  Not completely house trained but no accidents in past 2 days. She loves playing, going for walks (good on the leash too) and cuddle time. Kiddo is adorable with short legs and a long body and has the dachshund personality:  spunky, curious, devoted, protective. Whenever we go out, she wants to go with us and does great in the car.  If we are on the couch, she is right there, can be a couch potato but also gets the zooms.  She lets you know when anyone walks in the house. (I told the kids they won't be able to sneak out now that she's here-LOL.).  When she was in GA, Kiddo was the staff favorite! She is so sweet. She is outgoing and loves attention. In GA she enjoyed playing with her friend Kasey but out of the shelter she doesn't seem to be as dog friendly. It could be that she just needs to decompress but we just want to play it on the safe side & say no other dogs and she would be happy with that. She just wants her human to love her! Kiddo's   former owner left her and her siblings at a local pet store during an adoption event with a "Free Puppies" sign attached to their crate. While the owner never returned to pick up the pups at the end of the day, he did leave information about the puppies on a flyer, which listed their date of birth and that they were Dachshund/Lab mix. The staff of the pet store struggled with the thought of having to simply leave the pups outside their store, but didn't have any other option. Luckily for the pups, Scott Bennett, President and CEO of SoCo Rescue, was shopping at the pet store just before they were scheduled to close for the day. Upon hearing of the pup's, Scott offered to take the pups to SoCo Rescue. Kiddo's siblings immediately caught the plane to New Jersey.  Not enough room for Kiddo so she has waited a while for her chance.  Despite living at our rescue for an extended time, Kiddo has remained very affectionate and playful.  She is now ready for her forever true home! Kiddo has been spayed and kept up to date on all of her vaccines, de-wormings and preventative care. Her recent heartworm test came back negative and she appears to be a very healthy dog. She will most likely require additional house and other basic training. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 5, 2024, 8:03 pm

Story
This girl has been through it for someone so young and cute. Despite everything she has been through, she has been nothing but a total love that is so appreciative of the kindness she's being shown in her foster home. She is gaining weight and learning how to be a puppy in a safe and loving environment for the first time in her young life. We are working on house training and crate training, while gaining her trust. We aren't sure what breed her and her brothers are, but based on the boys' looks we made a guess. Their Story:On Monday/Tuesday 1/19/25, Ludowici PD was called to three skinny and young puppies in a local park. Once the officer arrived on scene, he saw the horrible condition they were in and watched them eating acorns and sticks to fill their empty bellies. He called to get the local animal control to come pick them up, but they refused so he loaded them in his truck, and contacted his boss for advice on what to do. Being a huge animal advocate the officer tried different rescues until he contacted us through his wife. He was given permission to bring them home. The puppies were not only starving and in horrible physical condition, they were covered and sticky with their own feces in urine to the point they needed baths asap at 2am. All three are thriving and even the littlest one Richas, that's super shy, is finally starting to get comfortable.

Story
According to his foster, Dobby is the perfect little gentleman. He is potty trained and good going in the kennel at night. At first, he didn't bark - in fact, he didn't bark for the entire first week in his foster home. Now that he is more confident and comfortable knowing he is safe, he barks for attention and wags his tail when barking. He's quite the happy little fellow and friendly too! He gets along with the other dogs (of all sizes) in his foster home, and hasn't met a person he doesn't like.He is pretty food motivated - so don't leave anything unattended for too long unless you're willing to share. He especially loves some homemade doggy ice cream. Don't let this little senior guy fool you - he may have some cataract issues, but he's quick! Dobby doesn't need a five second rule. He's still energetic too and likes to run around the back yard. Even more though, he likes to snuggle with you on the couch, and is looking for a forever home where he'll always have a lap to call his own.Submit an application to meet him before someone else swoops this sweet senior up for their own.Special Medical Information:Cataracts

Story
Chestnut is one of 10 dogs rescued from a backyard breeding facility shutdown in January. These pups are all still learning about being dogs. They only lived their lives in cages of squalor, so families need to be realistic on the time it may take for their new pet to adjust and learn the routines of a household.
