❗ Current Location: in a foster home in South Korea❗ Meet Lylla :) • She rides so well that if you open the car door she gets in by herself, and she doesn't get car sick at all. If you like traveling she would make a really good buddy! • She loves playing with other dogs, running in the park, cuddles, kisses, sleeping with you, walks, hikes, and delicious food (fruit, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cheese, meat) and treats! • Personality: She is affectionate, full of energy, loves to have fun, and adapts well to new things. She likes both people and dogs and cats (she'll play with them). She also loves to play in the park or the mountains. When she's excited, she'll purr to show her excitement. Story
Meet Sparky!  Sparky was part of the group of seniors that came to us several weeks ago after their human mom passed away and their human dad was forced to leave the family home - leaving no where for these poor babies to go. Since they technically would have been considered owner surrenders in a county with an extremely small shelter, they would have been euthanized immediately if a rescue didn’t step up to help them.  Sparky is about 12 years old with lots of life left to live! He’s obviously great with other dogs since he lived as part of a pack for most of his life, but he’s also adjusted quite nicely to being the King of the Castle in his foster home! He would love to join a quiet, dachshund loving home so that he can thoroughly enjoy his retirement!!  Does that sound like you? Meet Lucy! Lucy was part of the group of seniors that came to us in early July after their human mom passed away and their human dad was forced to leave the family home - leaving no where for these poor babies to go. Since they technically would have been considered owner surrenders in a county with an extremely small shelter, they would have been euthanized immediately if a rescue didn’t step up to help them.   We think Lucy 8-9 years old and when she first came to us she was the grumbly one. NOW she’s a total love bug or love-butterfly! She’s lost 5 pounds and though still might look thick on her pics, it’s lots of loose skin. She’s an under the cover sleeper and great with all dogs and even cats! Lucy is still a bit timid and seems more nervous around men. She will definitely need at least one other more confident dog in the home and at least one female adult human. An all female home would be absolutely perfect for her but she would probably do ok with a calm, gentle man as long as she also had her emotional support woman there too. Lucy also does require a fenced yard as she gains confidence on leash     Interested in adopting? Story
Right? Can you EVEN with that sweet look on his face? Buddy Ross is a total nugget; we kind of love him - but yeah, we love them alllll, so there's that. Through no fault of his own, Buddy comes to DREAM after his previous owner became unable to care for him. He's been loved his whole life, and he has a lot of love to give. He enjoys playing with toys, and gets on well with other dogs. We aren't sure about cats. Buddy is a people dog, for sure. He loves grownups and kids, and he gets along with his canine foster brothers & sisters. He wants nothing more than to be in your lap, giving you kisses. His soulful eyes will make you feel like he sees and understands everything. Buddy is an Isabella dachshund (silvery blue fur) and like most Isabellas, he has some hair loss aka alopecia. He has grown some hair since coming to DREAM and being fed quality kibble. He has a section of fur on his neck that looks like a necktie. What a jaunty little guy! He doesn't take medicine for it, but would need sun protection like anyone else if he were exposed to the elements. Buddy Ross is NOT a fan of doggo sweaters but does enjoy snuggling in a bed and under a blanket. He's accustomed to using wee-pads to do his biznezz, but we're working on getting him used to the idea of fertilizing the grass instead of going inside. He's a champ at wearing belly bands which his foster mom refers to as his “gym shorts”. When he’s wearing his gym shorts he doesn’t wet them so maybe he just loves making a fashion statement?. He is also crate trained. Buddy loves squeaky toys and bones of all kinds. (He is also a sneaky thief of paper towels and napkins. 😅 The ideal home for Buddy would be someone who wants a constant companion. If you're looking for a friendly, low-key, playful, "your own little shadow" companion look no further than Buddy Ross. Complete an application right online. If you are interested in adopting Buddy Ross, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Buddy Ross's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Buddy Ross will go to his new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. We've also given him a dental for sweet kissy breath. Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
This may be the most unique profile you ever read. Yes, we say READ. Why? Well....we aren't going to show any pictures of this dog until you have. Intrigued yet? We hope so. Read on! The reason we want you to READ first is to get a good understanding of who this dog is....and NOT what he looks like. He is absolutely, positively adorable, and everyone instantly falls for him...but he is not for everyone. In fact, he is not for most. He has some serious health matters that most people won't take the time to read about or understand, much less be able to handle appropriately, simply because he's too cute. And these health matters are relatively easy to handle for the right person with the right attitude. Most just see tons of cuteness in front of them and instantly disregard everything else. He & DREAM can't afford for that to happen. We've spent a lot of time and effort (and financial resources) getting Dusty Britches back into good health, so we hope to truly inform you of him & his needs FIRST and then show you his photos later. We promise, you'll like them. So, let's dive in. Dusty Britches is a long-haired, neutered male, ~5+ years old (turns 6 in May.) Sweet as pie. Softest hair & most soulful eyes you've ever seen. He's a petite little guy. ~10 lbs, fluff and all. He came to us after his mom passed & his dad was no longer able to provide sufficient care for him. We quickly realized something was just not right with Dusty. He was constantly retching, massively anxious, and undiagnosed until he arrived at DREAM. To further complicate his matters, the anxiety also triggers his regurgitation. The vets confirmed our suspicions...he has both Megaesophagus (aka M.E.) and separation anxiety. Good news is he now has meds for both of these conditions. It's taken us a long time of working with Dusty to get here, but he's been so worth the effort. What is Megaesophagus? Good question. It's just as the name describes....Dusty Britches has a section in his throat (or esophagus) that is too large and causes some liquids and food to collect there, and not passing directly to the stomach. Dusty Britches has a team of specialists in this disease help to figure out where his irregularity is located (lower esophagus), that it is a mild situation compared to other M.E. dogs, and that it is now being well managed with 2 medications taken twice daily. Sildenafil helps constrict his throat muscles (making the enlarged place tighten up / get smaller prior to meal times) and Metoclopramide helps speed up digestion once food is in his stomach. These 2 meds have immensely improved his overall condition and have greatly minimized the amount of regurgitation he endures. The cost of these 2 meds is ~$12/month. M.E. also requires a fairly strict diet. Consistency is key. New foods or treats can aggravate his condition. We will share what has worked successfully with him, once we get to that stage with any applicant. Why is it important to control the regurg? Aspiration Pneumonia (aka A.P.) is the answer. It's something M.E. dogs become highly susceptible to. If he coughs up food that then enters the lungs, A.P. will occur...not "if" but "when" is always the case with foreign items entering the lungs. The substance, such as food, saliva, vomit, or medication, brings in bacteria which can cause the infection, and that bacteria quickly spreads. A.P. can be lethal if not treated, hence our desire to avoid it at all costs. And guess what? Since getting his meds figured out, we have not had any instances of A.P. Now let's chat about his separation anxiety. Dusty can be a nervous little guy at times...so much so that our vet recommended medication to help ease his worry. Dusty has proven once he bonds to you, he absolutely will adore you and HATES to be left alone. And his meds have helped this condition a bunch, but he has a lot of learned behaviors too. With that, we are seeking that loving & patient person who is willing to continue to work with Dusty on his behavior in a positive manner. DB would do best with 1 owner, or a partner that doesn't mind being "shunned" by him. Dusty just has a hard time bonding with more than 1 person at a time. He won't be aggressive to the others in a home - he will simply bark on occasion and run back to his 1 person. We've had him in multiple foster homes and he does well in all of them, but again, he relies on just 1 person in each home. And a crate at home is out of the question. He absolutely will not tolerate it, and it further aggravates his M.E. The only place he sits quietly in a crate in is at the vet's office. (Thank goodness for that - as he's spent much time there while he's been with us.) Fun fact - he's an EXCELLENT car rider. The car is a huge motivator & calming agent for him - he adores getting to go, lays right down, loves to sit while you shop or dine (proven Maxxinista - tee hee), and shows way more patience being in the car than he does waiting for someone to come home. But he can't go with us 24/7 & sometimes just has to stay at home. We give him a large hallway or bathroom (not the entire house), some soft music, and a soft bed to lay on. Sometimes he howls and cries. Sometimes he flings himself at the front door, but neither of these happens always. Sometimes, he's quiet & patient and just lays in his bed awaiting our return. Yep, we've seen it all on the Dusty-cam. ☺! To help Dusty with his anxiety, he takes another med for this. It too is twice daily, like the M.E. meds. It's a 1/2 tablet every 12 hours of Clomipramine and costs ~$40/mth. More fun facts about Dusty Britches. Dusty has a Bailey Chair (google it) that his foster parents made for him. Dusty is super easy to train b/c he is highly food motivated. He is also incredibly smart and eager to please. He took to his new chair with the greatest of ease. Dusty also knows a "wait" command. We use it for meal time so he doesn't rush the bowl. We also use it at the door to go outside. He LOVES to rush out the door to run thru the fenced-in yard. (He'd love for you to teach him more commands.) Dusty does enjoy sleeping in the big bed with his humans, even the partner he might be afraid of when out of the bed. He gives the best morning snuggles and wake-up kisses. Dusty really isn't into toys, but does love a good walk. Dusty also enjoys adventures like hiking or boat rides. Despite his anxiety, he really does love to go places with his people. Dusty just wants to please his person and get lots of reassurance that he's doing a good job. He now knows a "wait" command and we use it in many scenarios...like meal time, so he doesn't plow right into his food, or at the front door when we need to leave, so he doesn't try to go with us. He is known to run straight to the car door and beg to get in. Can you tell we've had a lot of fun with this boy, despite all we've had to work on? This boy is absolutely guaranteed to make you smile and want to give him the biggest hugs ever. He knows how to grab your heart and hold on tight. So...why do we share all this with you? It's because we want to set Dusty Britches up for success in his forever home. If you feel he is the type of dog for you, you don't mind the monthly financial commitment to his meds, you don't mind a little clean up from his M.E. and a little anxiety...then please apply for Dusty Britches. Once we receive your application and get thru the pre-screening process, we will then make contact with you, share lots of pictures, and start our next rounds of talks to see if he's still as good a match as you think he might be. We believe he's worth it, and for the right person, they will too. If you are interested in adopting Dusty Britches, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Dusty Britches' adoption fee is $500. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Story
Meet Boone, a gorgeous and super silly long haired red male, who also happens to be an IVDD survivor. He arrived with a back injury and has gone through surgery. He's still primarily paralyzed but does have some tiny movement in his legs. But don't let that fool you into thinking he's slowed down at all. HECK NO!!! This boy is a professional when it comes to scooting or asking to be carried...and he's up for just about any adventure you care to take him on. He adores the car and wants to be with his people all the time. His bladder does need to be expressed, which is ridiculously easy and not messy at all. Just a little press on his abdomen & wheeee....you're done. Let us show you how. It makes him the most perfectly house-trained dog. WIN!!! Honestly whether he walks or scoots, he's the happiest little camper ever. Mr. Social !!! He has a real zest for life and brings joy to everyone he meets. Boone does enjoy his wheelie cart but b/c he's got such good foot placement when supported, we are encouraging him to keep strengthening his leg muscles to stand. If you know DREAM, you know we never give up. Because thru dreams, most anything is possible. DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe this guy is really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well. One of the original board members wrote this extremely helpful book about day to day life with a "down dog".... Story
Meet Ollie, the king of comebacks. Oooo-weeee!!!! This is a sweet one folks. Guard your hearts or come grab him quickly, cuz this 4-5 year old chocolate piebald is not hanging around with us for long. When Ollie first arrived (from a shelter & no records from his past), he was a FLAMING HOT MESS from tip to tail. His skin was completely irritated and all 4 paws were inflamed. His ears were infected and so was his mouth. Plus he had this huge mass on his chest. All in all, Ollie was long overdue for some medical and physical TLC, and we were very happy to oblige. Most of this is now a thing of the past. Ollie's dental went extremely well, and he actually had ZERO extractions - amazing for so much yuck in there. His mass is gone and his ears, paws & skin are healing up nicely. Also, he is on a hydrolyzed protein diet (we will explain when you apply) for the skin issues. This may be able to be eliminated in the future. WAY TO GO OLLIE!!! This is quite the rapid recovery for a dog that's been with us for ~ 4 weeks. Sweetness is Ollie's top character trait. He loves absolutely everyone he meets. He also enjoys toys....really really enjoys them. Since his feet don't hurt anymore, he's now wants to get up and play with the toys and the other dogs in the house. Check out the video with him romping with this foster fur sister! So much SUNSHINE! Also, Ollie is house-trained and will go to the door and bark to let you know he needs to go out. He prefers a scheduled routine, and once he learns it, he will adhere to it, but you've got to do your part as well. On a schedule, he does not have accidents in the house. And now that his feet don't hurt so much to walk anymore, he's much happier to go out when you ask him to, but he does like you to join him on his galivant around the yard. Ollie is a bigger boy, and while he maybe could lose another pound or so, he's closer to being a standard sized dachshund. Also, check out that adorable spot on the back of his neck. BOOP!!! You just want to kiss it. {SMOOCHIES} 😘 💋 If you are interested in adopting Ollie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Story
Rudy Rudolph - what a gentle soul you are. We are so glad we can help you along in your journey. Rudy's mom recently passed away after a cancer battle and he's feeling a little lost. Don't worry little Rudy - we got you Boo!!!! Rudy is a gentle guy who prefers a low-key environment. It takes him a little bit to warm up, but once he does, his love is powerful. Since arriving, we've learned he is heartworm positive and we are treating him for that. He enjoys some relaxing time wandering thru the gardens of his foster home. He's fit right into the pack and enjoys being with other doggies. Occasionally he will play, but he really wants to do that inside where it is cool. Don't blame you there Rudy. Overall, he has a very reserved temperament, sweet disposition, and loves to be with and cuddle with his people. Rudy is learning but will need to be on a schedule for house training. As with any dog that is in a new household with different surroundings, smells and schedule, he will need time and patience to learn the ropes and settle into his new home. . His foster mom carries him out into the yard so he can do all the sniffies as well as his business. He does very well when given opportunities to take a guided stroll outside with his person. If you are interested in adopting Rudy Rudolph, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Rudy Rudolph's adoption fee is $400. Story
Blake was picked up as a stray by Animal Control and no one had come for him. He's a big boy at 28.8 lbs at Intake. He's not so much overweight, as just a big boy. We guess is he's mostly a standard dachshund mixed with something else. He definitely does not have the dachshund snout. Border Collie? Spaniel? Flat coat retriever? Guess away, cause Blake ain’t telling! Poor boy was in rough shape when he came into DREAM. Much hair loss and eyes filled with discharge-but all that's changed now. Blake’s hair is growing back and his eyes now twinkle with delight. His veterinarian aged him at 6-7 years with many years of love to share. Blake is 100% potty trained and will even whine at the door to let you know he needs to go out. That must come from outside of his dachshund heritage 😜 He loves to play with squeaky toys but isn’t good at sharing. Blake is an independent guy when on a leash. While he doesn’t pull, he likes to call the shots. When he is done walking, he is DONE. He will plop down and wait for the signal to head back home. Because of his “want to be in charge” temperament, he will need an experienced, adult only, adopter. He is also a lover and absolutely loves to be petted when he feels safe and trusts the person. Blake is settling into his foster home so stay tuned for updates. If you are interested in adopting Blake, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Blake's adoption fee is $450. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds.
