Story
GetALong Dachshund Rescue is pleased to introduce Oliver. Oliver is a small little fellow weighing only 11 pounds and is about 9 years old. Oliver is a talker - he will let you know when he’s happy or when he’s unhappy with a grumble grumble. Oliver is a very submissive boy who is fearful of dogs who are much larger than he is and will not be adopted to a home with dogs who are over 20 pounds and male. He does well with adult female dogs of his own size or slightly larger who are not overly rambunctious as he finds this behaviour overwhelming. Sweet Oliver is slowly coming out of his shell after coming to us from an unknown previous life. He is learning to play fetch and loves chewy bones. Oliver is shy and reluctant. It takes him time to warm up and be comfortable but once he does, he is a total sweetheart who will be your best friend who will never leave your side. It seems to us that Oliver is just learning how to be a dog and is just starting to come into his own. Oliver would like a home with a female who is home most of the time He will slowly warm up to a man, but much prefers to be with a female. He should not be in a home with children under 15 and any children in the home must be calm and gentle. Oliver must be able to sleep in the big bed with his people. He will cry and bark if he cannot see you. Oliver has significant separation anxiety. He is terrified of being abandoned yet again and will follow his foster mom in Alabama from room to room. His foster mom says that Oliver is her favourite kind of dog - a velcro dog! He needs a calm, quiet environment with lots of structure so he can feel confident and secure. Oliver is working on his leash training and house training . He is crate trained. Oliver’s house training is a work in progress. He is doing much better than when he came into rescue but he will need his new home to be patient and understand that he may have accidents. He needs to be on a very clear schedule or he will have accidents and h is accidents may increase if he is feeling anxious. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Oliver does have a significant heart murmur but does not yet need any medication. We do have him on some wonderful supplements to help keep him happy and healthy. He does have some dental disease and his forever home will need to have a consultation with a vet regarding the necessity of any procedures. Oliver is the sweetest of boys who needs a home that will be kind and gentle with him . If you are looking for a cuddle bug that will think his world revolves around you, Oliver is the boy for you! Story
We are happy to introduce Prancer who has joined our rescue. Prancer is a delightful little girl who weighs about 10 pounds and is about 8 -10 years old. Little Prancer has earned her name because she loves to dance around! She is very fun loving and loves to give cuddles and is brining a lot of joy to her foster home in Texas. Prancer is house trained and comfortable being in a crate. Like all dogs, she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. This lovely little girl gets along well with other dogs. Prancer would do well in a home with respectful children age 9 and over. She has not been tested with cats. She is housetrained and would love a home where she can sleep in the big bed every night. Like all dachshunds she would be happiest in a home where her people are home most of the time. Prancer is leash trained and travels well in a car. Prancer is quite submissive and sometimes she will hide or shy away from a situation. She does play when she feels confident and comfortable. Prancer dances all the time and will just steal your heart! She sometimes is protective of her food if other dogs come close while she is eating. Are you looking for some love and joy in your life? Prancer will dance her way into your heart! Apply to adopt this darling little girl today!

Story
Capri is a 6 year old Dachsund mixed with an unknown breed. He was adopted from a shelter 3 years ago. We are expecting a new baby soon and this as well as financial issues at the moment unfortunately prevent us from keeping him any longer. Capri is in need of all shots due to the financial constraints. He has always been an inside dog other than using the bathroom so that should ease some concern about that. He was not a very socialized dog as we are not originally from jacksonville and dont know anyone. He hasnt been around other dogs often other than at groomers or vet. He is good with people once being around them a while. He is territorial when in his own space until he knows someone. But when he goes to vet or groomers etc he is pretty easy going. He has never been around cats so i would say he is likely not good around cats. Children he MUST get to know slowly and not just placed in their face or he acts a little strange so PREFER a person without children.

Story
Hey there, I’m Harry, and I’m a total daddy’s boy! My favorite thing is hanging out with my person, especially if you’re someone who enjoys having a loyal sidekick by your side. Whether we’re relaxing on the couch, exploring the backyard, or just chilling, I’ll be your steadfast buddy.   I’m an outdoor enthusiast. I’m not big on leashes (they’re just not my thing!), so a fenced yard would be good for me. I love being outside!   I use pee pads since I have Cushing’s. It’s no big deal, really—it just means I pee more often than your average pup. With some regular vet care and a consistent routine, managing my Cushing’s is totally doable.   I’m independent but affectionate, and I’ll come looking for some love when I’m in the mood.  If you’re looking for a fun-loving, outdoorsy pup with a dash of independence and a lot of heart, I might be the perfect match for you.     Note About Cushing’s   Cushing’s disease in dogs happens when there’s an overproduction of cortisol. While it might sound scary, it’s manageable with proper care. I take medication to help regulate things. You might notice I drink more water and need to pee more often—that’s just part of who I am, and as long as we stick to my routine, I’m good to go.   ----- Harry is part of a bonded pair. Learn more about his sister Carly here. If you know that I am your forever pup, please fill out an adoption application at https://daretorescue.org/adoption-application. Don't forget to put my NAME on your application! If you cannot adopt me but would like to help DARE pay for my care before I am adopted by my forever family, donate online at https://daretorescue.org/donation or send a check made payable to DARE to:DAREPO Box 21161Tampa, FL 32210     Even if you do not see a dog that matches what you're looking for, you may fill out a no obligation application at https://daretorescue.org/adoption-application and we will work to find a match for you. We receive dogs into foster care frequently, so it is impossible to have every available or soon-to-be-available dog on the website.December 30, 2024, 12:20 pm

Story
Hi, I’m Carly, and once I get to know you, I’m full of playful energy! At first, I can be a little shy and timid, but my personality is really starting to shine. I love being outside—especially when I can run fast and chase squirrels. I even get the zoomies now and then! I’m still learning how to walk on a leash, so I’d do best in a home with a fenced yard where I can safely explore. I have some extra skin that needs to be kept clean to prevent irritation, but it’s no big deal—I don’t mind as long as it keeps me comfy. I’m not super vocal about needing to go outside, so I’ll need someone who can keep a close eye on me. But once you get me outside, I’m ready for fun! If you’re looking for a sweet, playful girl who loves the outdoors, I’m here waiting for my forever home!   Hi there, I’m Carly, and let me tell you—I’m a little bundle of love and fun!    One of my favorite things in the whole world is being outside. Whether I’m running fast, chasing squirrels, or just exploring my fenced yard, I’m happiest when I’ve got some sunshine and fresh air. Sometimes I even get the zoomies—just try to keep up! I’m also a bit of a digger, so a yard where I can safely channel my inner archaeologist would be amazing.   And guess what? I’m a total sweetheart when it comes to other dogs. I love snuggling up with my foster brother Harry (I even wash his ears and face!) or sharing a cozy bed with my furry friends.   If you’re looking for a sweet, playful companion who adores the outdoors and will keep you smiling with her unique charm, I might just be the one for you. ---------- Carly is part of a bonded pair. Story
Hi there, I’m Cupcake! I’m a sweet-as-sugar senior dachshund with a heart full of love to share. At 10+ years young and 13 pounds of cuteness, I’m proof that age is just a number! I’m diabetic and mostly blind (though I might see some shadows), but don’t let that fool you—I’ve got plenty of zest for life. I’m a pro at cuddling. Whether it’s in the big bed (I’m a master burrower!) or snuggled on the couch with my foster siblings. I enjoy sunbathing, belly rubs, and mealtime—especially when it involves my special wet food. Twice a day, I need insulin shots, but I’m a champ about it. I get along great with other dogs, men, and women, and I’m house-trained as long as I’m taken out regularly. I’m good on a leash but need a watchful eye since I’m curious and like to investigate. I’ll let you know if I want to go outside or join you on the bed with a little bark, but I’m otherwise a quiet and well-mannered lady. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion, I’m your girl! Let’s spend our days cuddling, soaking up the sun, and sharing all the love.
