Story
GetALong Dachshund Rescue is pleased to introduce Oliver. Oliver is a small little fellow weighing only 11 pounds and is about 9 years old. Oliver is a talker - he will let you know when he’s happy or when he’s unhappy with a grumble grumble. Oliver is a very submissive boy who is fearful of dogs who are much larger than he is and will not be adopted to a home with dogs who are over 20 pounds and male. He does well with adult female dogs of his own size or slightly larger who are not overly rambunctious as he finds this behaviour overwhelming. Sweet Oliver is slowly coming out of his shell after coming to us from an unknown previous life. He is learning to play fetch and loves chewy bones. Oliver is shy and reluctant. It takes him time to warm up and be comfortable but once he does, he is a total sweetheart who will be your best friend who will never leave your side. It seems to us that Oliver is just learning how to be a dog and is just starting to come into his own. Oliver would like a home with a female who is home most of the time He will slowly warm up to a man, but much prefers to be with a female. He should not be in a home with children under 15 and any children in the home must be calm and gentle. Oliver must be able to sleep in the big bed with his people. He will cry and bark if he cannot see you. Oliver has significant separation anxiety. He is terrified of being abandoned yet again and will follow his foster mom in Alabama from room to room. His foster mom says that Oliver is her favourite kind of dog - a velcro dog! He needs a calm, quiet environment with lots of structure so he can feel confident and secure. Oliver is working on his leash training and house training . He is crate trained. Oliver’s house training is a work in progress. He is doing much better than when he came into rescue but he will need his new home to be patient and understand that he may have accidents. He needs to be on a very clear schedule or he will have accidents and h is accidents may increase if he is feeling anxious. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Oliver does have a significant heart murmur but does not yet need any medication. We do have him on some wonderful supplements to help keep him happy and healthy. He does have some dental disease and his forever home will need to have a consultation with a vet regarding the necessity of any procedures. Oliver is the sweetest of boys who needs a home that will be kind and gentle with him . If you are looking for a cuddle bug that will think his world revolves around you, Oliver is the boy for you! Apply to adopt Oliver today!

Story
We are happy to introduce Prancer who has joined our rescue. Prancer is a delightful little girl who weighs about 10 pounds and is about 8 -10 years old. Little Prancer has earned her name because she loves to dance around! She is very fun loving and loves to give cuddles and is brining a lot of joy to her foster home in Texas. Prancer is house trained and comfortable being in a crate. Like all dogs, she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. This lovely little girl gets along well with other dogs. Prancer would do well in a home with respectful children age 9 and over. She has not been tested with cats. She is housetrained and would love a home where she can sleep in the big bed every night. Like all dachshunds she would be happiest in a home where her people are home most of the time. Prancer is leash trained and travels well in a car. Prancer is quite submissive and sometimes she will hide or shy away from a situation. She does play when she feels confident and comfortable. Prancer dances all the time and will just steal your heart! She sometimes is protective of her food if other dogs come close while she is eating. Are you looking for some love and joy in your life? Prancer will dance her way into your heart! Apply to adopt this darling little girl today!

Story
Mr Hemingway has joined our rescue and is ready for his forever home. Hemi is a gorgeous long haired boy who is 11 years old and weighs 13 pounds Hemi is a playful boy who enjoys the company of other dogs but is equally happy on his own. This lovely boy treasures his humans and would like a home where he could be with them most of the time. He has not been tested with children or cats, but most likely he would do well with children 12 years of age and older. Hemi is a submissive gentle boy and needs a home where he will be treasured and never yelled at. Hemi likes everyone but he does seem to prefer a woman as his person. He would like a home where he can cuddle with his person in the big bed every night. Hemi enjoys car rides and would love a home where he could go with his human in the car. Hemingway prefers canned food but will eat kibble when it is mixed with his canned food. This fabulous boy loves to play with his toys and will talk to his family with happiness! Hemi will bark and therefore would not suit apartment life. Hemi walks very well on a leash and just loves to cuddle with his person. Like most dachshunds he will likely pick his favourite person in his forever family. Hemi is housetrained and does need to be taken out by his human every few hours. He will use a doggy door but doesn’t understand that means it is potty time. In his foster home in Florida, he has never had an accident in the house. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Hemingway is a wonderful little boy who is playful and happy. His foster family says he is the perfect little gentleman and a good doggie citizen who is respectful and loving. Are you the lucky one to welcome this wonderful boy into your life ? Apply to adopt Hemi today !

Story
GetALong Dachshund Rescue is pleased to introduce beautiful Sadie , an 8 year old small standard girl who weighs 21 pounds. Sadie gets along with other dogs however she can be very protective of possessions that she considers hers, especially her lambchop stuffy that she treasures. She loves her lambchop so much that she will walk around with it and rarely leaves it alone. Sadie should not be in a home with cats as she has a high prey drive. Sadie would do well with children 10 years of age and older. Sadie is a sweet girl who is looking for a forever home that will let her sleep in the big bed every night. She loves exploring and needs a home with a fenced yard . Like many dachshunds, Sadie is a barker and will bark at the door and movements that catch her attention. Sadie will whine or bark for a short time when left alone but she does settle down in time. She appears to have some anxiety and will pace. We believe as she becomes feeling secure this should lessen. Sadie does well in the car and is leash trained. This lovely girl is 80% housetrained but sometimes she does get distracted when she goes outside at potty time and is too busy sniffing to go so she should be monitored. Like all dogs, she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Sadie will use potty pads in the house. Sadie is an exceptionally pretty girl who is dilute chocolate/ blue mix and has some mild alopecia which is common for dilute dachshunds. In some cases a good diet with healthy oils and high quality food can assist with this. Beautiful Sadie is ready for a home. Apply to adopt her today!
