Story
Hi, My name is Alf, but my foster family calls me Alfie and I kinda dig it. I’m a Dachshund-Yorkie Terrier blend boy, 2 years young and weigh 14 lbs. My fosters tell me (ALL the time) that I’m the “bestest boy”, so I think I’m pretty special. I hope you do too!
General Behavior: Alf is a confident, happy, silly, playful, affectionate boy. He adjusts quickly to new environments and makes friends with other fur pals fast.
Likes & Dislikes: Alf loves toys! And if he has a long, plush toy and a friend to tug with, he’s all in! He also loves small chewy bones and will lounge and relax while he works on his chews. Alf loves to play and run and bounce, but he’s also the perfect snuggler and will nuzzle in by your side if you want to just chill with a good book and a cuddly companion. He also just happens to give the very best hugs and gentle little kisses that will melt your heart.Alf has a great appetite and does zoomies when it’s mealtime. He gets very excited about treats and yummy food, especially when he gets extra goodies for dinner like chicken or sweet potatoes - YUM, that’s his favorite!
Training: Alf has good house manners and won’t get into things if you’re away or preoccupied. He’s still working on his house training, but if kept on a regular schedule with frequent outdoor breaks, he does great! He is very food motivated so lots of praise and treats have helped with this. Alf is a super smart fella so if you’re looking for a pooch to learn tricks and maybe even some cool agility stuff, he’s your guy.
Medical: Alf is a healthy guy and will just require his monthly heartworm and flea prevention; like any other dog.
Other Animals: Alf has lived with big and small dogs and cats too. He’s an active little man so he’d really love the company of an equally active pooch or two to share his new life with.
Children: Because of Alf’s small size and energy, a home with children (8 years and older) would be the best fit for him.
Home: Alf requires a single-family home with a fenced yard. He will bark to alert you to any deliveries, door knocks or any loud outdoor traffic or commotion. A home that has shared walls with other tenants wouldn’t be ideal when Alf is vocal. Alf is an outdoor explorer and when the door opens to the back fenced yard - he bolts and springs into action for his outdoor duties, squirrel chasing and lizard hunting, of course. Alf should be treated as a flight risk, if there’s an open door and he spots a friend (furry or otherwise), he will run to catch them. He loves running in the backyard and exploring nature so a home with a fenced yard would be ideal for him. He loves his outside time with his foster siblings and would run and romp through the grass all day if he could.
Grooming: Alf won’t require elaborate professional grooms. He has a beautiful coat that just needs regular brushing and the occasional at-home spa day with bubble baths and regular nail trims. Then he’s ready to hit the town and meet new friends!
Overall: Alf’s ideal home would be one with other playful pups to pal around with, a loving, doting family to spoil him rotten, let him nuzzle into bed with you, a family to take him on adventures and a nice big yard for him to run and explore multiple times each day (supervised, of course).
If you think Alf sounds like your kinda guy, please visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with his foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. Alf is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and neutered. His adoption donation is $500.
