Story
Elf is a strong guy surviving complications from what should have been a standard neuter surgery. One of his testicles hadn’t descended so they had to do a more invasive neuter. When they opened him up he had a hernia and when they tried to repair it the fat that covers the intestines plopped out so they had to cut part of it out (he basically got a tummy tuck!). Elf is a sweet boy but is extremely shy at first so he needs lots of love to show him he's safe now and it's time for him to just be a dog. The first three weeks he took sanctuary in the bathroom and wouldn't come out, but with time and trust he came out and now follows his fosters around like a shadow! He loves other dogs and is submissive. He doesn't mind the crate but would rather be out and about with you. House trained! Elf is currently being fostered in San Antonio and looking for an adopter or committed foster to adopt to hop on the transport to Denver scheduled for January. ##2261398##

Story
Making the most of her second chance at life is friendly 4-year-old Maggie Mae. This 38-pound brown and white cutie, so sweet and so calm, presently prefers being in sight of her foster mom, looking to her for guidance and reassurance -- especially when she experienced snow for the first time! She loves snuggling and cuddling with her, showing her belly for belly rubs and being under the covers. In fact, one of her favorite pastimes is wrapping herself in blankets to sleep. Maggie Mae also loves playing and fetching toys, especially tug toys, chewing bones, taking rides in the car and going on walks, diligently working on her leash skills with each walk. Not only does she love the backyard and lying in the warmth of the sun, she takes great pleasure out of “patrolling” the perimeter. Motivated by food, toys and love, she currently knows “come,” “sit,” “stay” and “no,” and stares intently at her foster mom when she asks “out,” “eat,” “toy” and “walk,” indicating when she’s said the right one. Never crated and almost fully house-trained, Maggie Mae will thrive in an affectionate and active home, perhaps with a doggy playmate already there, that will complete her training, including her commands, and keep her in cuddles fur-ever.   Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure each pet finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails). If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here. Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
