Cooper was rescued from the Bakersfield shelter, where he found himself impounded in a scary shelter through no fault of his own. He’s still just a baby and very, very shy, taking his time to warm up and build trust with new people. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet and lovable personality shines through. While he may be a little hesitant around strangers, he is gentle and affectionate with those he knows and trusts. Cooper would make a wonderful companion for someone patient and loving. Plus, he’s not a barker! Cooper also really loves to play with dogs of all ages and sizes! He is very well socialized with other canines and enjoys the company of his dog friends, making him a great playmate. If someone gives him ample time to come around, he will be your absolute best friend. He seems to like women more than men. We have noticed, he will retreat to his dog bed when he is feeling nervous or uncomfortable. He is food motivated so time, consistency and snacks will win this shy guy over! We found this sweet little guy a month ago. He was starving and covered in fleas. The vet said he's not microchipped and is about 5 years old. He’s a daschund mix about 8.5 pounds. He’s the sweetest and loves to cuddle. He gets very attached and knows he’s been rescued. We’ve been fostering him and working with him to heal and he’s now about 90% potty trained and has a routine. We also crate trained him in the night and he enjoys going in. He is not neutered. We named him George and he responds to his name now. He loves his walks too (he had not been walked before and had to learn what to do on a walk by observing our dog). While we’d love to keep George, he and our cat have butted heads a few times and unfortunately there is a lot of added stress as our other dog is also a rescue and very needy. He would do amazing with someone who is home often and he can cuddle and sit on their lap. We would not recommend a home with cats or small children. He does well with other dogs.

Ben and Jerry were found wandering the streets in Midway City by a kind gentleman who corralled them and brought them to AALOC. They are brothers and are completely bonded so they cannot be separated. If you are looking for a pair of dogs as an addition to your family, Ben and Jerry would be just the right double scoop of love. Ben and Jerry are very young Dachshund mix dogs, full of life and affection. They are small in size, about 15 pounds each, and they love to walk and play together. They are housebroken and play well with other dogs. Overall they are very well-behaved young dogs available for adoption by a loving family. Please submit an application to adopt Ben and Jerry at www.AALOC.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Ben and Jerry and get to know them a bit.
