Story
Sex: FemaleBreed: Dachshund / Chihuahua xEstimated Date of Birth : 09/02/2012When the world isn’t your friend we go slow so you can learn to trust again. And that’s exactly what sweet Wilma is doing her best to do….trust! In rescue we see all personalities. All different types of dogs with various backgrounds. For those so scared they find trust hard to come by that lack of trust is sometimes due to a horrible past, a lack of confidence or a lack of socialization. We’ll never know fully why Wilma is so scared but we do know that with time she’ll learn to trust those who’ve shown her kindness and those willing to give her the time to feel comfortable enough to give that trust. Baby steps are what we take and yes progress can be extremely slow but the dogs given the time they need are some of the most loyal and devoted dogs we know.Wilma was part of a group of 13 senior dogs who lost their long time rescuer when she went on hospice. She was no longer able to care for her animals and they all needed a soft place to land. All 13 are now in foster care with us and waiting for loving forever homes. Wilma is part of this crew and probably the most shut down of the bunch. She needs a patient person willing to love her even if she won’t initially reciprocate that love immediately. Do you have the time and patience to help Wilma grow? Wilma is slowly acclimating in foster care. She’s dog friendly and just starting to show signs that she wants to play with the other dogs. She LOVES all the soft warm beds the most. She is still very scared of sounds, movement, human interactions and anything unfamiliar. She’d do best in a quiet environment where she can be given the space to adjust at her pace. We expect that once she has learned to trust she will always be a timid girl. We do feel that at least one other confident friendly dog in the home will help her to come out of her shell. We love to see these extremely shy and shut down dogs adopted so they can build that trust with the human giving them their forever home. Want to be Wilma’s teacher and guide? She’d love to be given the chance to trust with you. If you are interested in adopting a Marley's Mutts please fill out an application at http://marleysmutts.org/adoptionprocess/
