Story
Meet George! 🐾 George is a handsome 3-year-old hound weighing in at around 65 lbs. With his easygoing nature and lovable personality, he’s truly the total package! George gets along wonderfully with other dogs and adores children, making him a perfect fit for a family or a home with canine companions. This sweet guy is crate trained, up to date on his rabies shot, and ready to start his next chapter. George loves going for walks where he can take in all the sights and smells, but he’s just as happy curling up for a good snuggle on the couch. Whether you’re up for an adventure or a lazy afternoon, George is your loyal sidekick. If you're looking for a best friend who’s as kind-hearted as he is handsome, George might just be your perfect match!

Story
Ruby: A Little Crooked, A Lot PerfectIf you’re looking for a dog who will make your heart melt faster than an ice cream cone in July, meet Ruby, a six-year-old Coonhound with a crooked little smile and a heart of absolute gold.Ruby’s face tells a story - someone hurt her once, likely hitting or kicking her jaw - but Ruby isn’t dwelling on that. No way. She’s got too many sniffs to sniff, people to love, and snacks to investigate. (She is a Hound, after all.)This gentle girl came to us from an overcrowded shelter where her time was nearly up. Now she’s safe, she’s healing, and she’s ready for the next chapter: the one where she finds her forever home.Ruby is calm, kind, and a total pro on leash. She leans in close to show she loves you, and once she decides you’re safe? Her whole face lights up like sunrise. Her crooked little jaw needs simple surgery to help her feel her best, and Animal Aid will cover the cost even after adoption. All Ruby needs is love, a soft bed, and maybe a few treats to seal the deal.Ruby has known fear. She’s known hunger. But now? She’s ready to know joy. Comfort. Belonging. You.Come meet this beautiful soul any day (yes, weekends and holidays too!) between 9am and noon at:Animal Aid Society80 Butler Farm RoadHampton, VAYour gem is waiting.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 48 pounds KNOWN WITH DOGS: very good! KNOWN WITH CATS: Not sure yet KNOWN WITH KIDS: Still learning about him but very sweet, and we believe he would be okay KNOWN COMMANDS: sit and stay (learned in a day) KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Yes KNOWN LIKES: dogs, people KNOWN DISLIKES: None currently known. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Cokie is a young, playful and goofy young hound who loves to explore the outdoors on long walks and play tug and fetch with his toys. He's very smart, and learned his "sit" and "lie down" commands within a few hours. While initially apprehensive about new experiences (including sights, smells, and sounds) he's been building confidence and quickly picking up proper leash walking etiquette with practice. He is very friendly with other people and dogs, and may pull you over to help him say hi :)  He does not bark unless he's trying to get your attention - to get you to play, to alert to someone outside, to let you know he's hungry. Cokie loves his crate and will relax in there when he needs nap time and puts himself to bed at night. He hasn't quite figured out how to jump - despite encouragement to come up on the couch or into the car - but he will probably get the hang of this eventually. As a young dog, he is naturally curious and can be sneaky (searching for treats and toys in the trash, counter surfing when no one is watching!) but he also understands a stern "no" and doesn't push it. Cokie has daily play dates with a 10-lb Havpoo mix, and while he towers over her at 50 lbs, he's always very gentle with her when they plan and knows when to back off when she signals she's done. Cokie would make a great family dog and would love a home with a big yard that he can romp around and play fetch to his heart's content!
