The good news is she likes pets, so you can feel just how soft her coat is. Colleen is new in town and is still getting her bearings straight. She is coming around but will need some extra time, space, and patience to blossom. Ideally, she needs a home that will understand that she will need a little TCL to come out of her shell. Story
Introducing Tallulah, the companion you've been dreaming of! This gentle girl has a heart full of love and a laid-back attitude that makes her the best cuddle buddy. Tallulah enjoys the simple pleasures in life-whether it's curling up beside you for a cozy nap, basking in the sun, or soaking up attention from her favorite humans, she brings joy and warmth to the home. Tallulah's sweet nature makes it easy for her to connect with people, and she has a knack for finding her favorite cozy spots to unwind. Plus, she has a spotless record of no accidents in the house. This smart girl knows lots of words: "sit," "stay," "down," and "quiet" are just a few examples of her extensive vocabulary! Tallulah is still learning to share affection and toys with others and right now would do best in a home without another dog or young children. If you're looking for a loving and gentle addition to your home, Tallulah is all set to steal your heart! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

I know my name and some basic commands, and I am very food motivated, so training is a fun play session for me, as I will be all ears (and nose) looking to please you!  I could use some leash training as I am a very enthusiastic walker, and a bit strong, but I am learning the basics. I love children too, but I am prone to jumping up on people to give them hugs and love, so I might unintentionally knock over a little one. So, I do need encouragement to keep four on the floor.  I will need an active home, but I also like to cuddle I promise to bring joy, laughter, and an endless supply of love into your life. Adopt me, and let's create wonderful memories together!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. She is a young and sweet South Carolina girl on the hunt for her forever home. She can be a little shy with people, but warms up quickly and once she does, you'll have a true friend in Apple. Story
Name: Citra Sex: Female Estimated Age: 3-4 years Best Guess for Breed: Border Collie Mix Weight: 59lbs Lives With: Citra is currently living with two adults in an apartment environment. Housetrained? Citra is housebroken and crate trained. She also knows all of her basic commands. About Citra: Citra is an adorable 4 year old border collie mix who is incredibly smart and loves to learn new tricks. Fun facts: she knows over 15 commands and is working on several more, she’s a mozzarella cheese aficionado and butt scratches are her favorite! She also loves sunbathing - she can go for hours without moving from a sunny spot! Please read more about her below! CITRA’S PERFECT MATCH: PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults is ideal. Citra needs crate time when guests come over, but can warm up with a slow introduction and some treats. Because she is shy, we are recommending she not go to a home with small children. She can be quite scared of other dogs and cats, and would do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has been working her hardest with us to overcome her fears, and has shown lots of progress recently! PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. EXERCISE NEEDS: Citra enjoys long walks on the leash and rolling in the grass belly side up at the park. She could play fetch and tug all day long with her humans! However, she is also very content to lounge around the house. She is such a playful pup and would love to learn new games and activities! She loves untangling a towel to get to her food, and that tires her out just as much as a walk! She should not be taken to dog parks. BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Citra is a sweetheart. She loves to play with her humans and then take naps on the couch or in her crate. She is slowly but surely learning how to interact with new humans, but it takes a lot of treats and patience to gain her trust. Once she gets comfortable, she would love nothing more but to snuggle up with you all night long. She is quiet and comfortable in her crate, knows the “place” command, and does not have accidents in the home. CRATE: Citra loves her crate, she will sleep and relax there during the day and while her humans are not at home. She also sleeps in there all night long! Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. The fee to adopt Citra is $450. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines and already spayed. Citra has been seen by a shelter vet and we are not aware of any health issues. If you think that Citra might be your perfect match, apply today!November 3, 2024, 3:56 pm

Story
"He is perfect in every way," cooed the vet tech when we went back for a check-up. And she's right! Caleb is a sweet, friendly, and playful 3-year-old collie. He greets everyone he meets with a smile and a tail wag, expecting to be best friends right away. He's calm in the house and in the neighborhood - a confident guy, even the neighbor's howling werewolf doesn't faze him!    Caleb has corneal lipid/mineral deposits on his eyes.  Therefore, he must be kept on a low fat diet.   He is on meds for his eyes and it is best for him to be seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist.  We took him for a first visit and he has a follow up visit scheduled for January.  He does see well and we are hopeful that this is just a condition that will be best monitored with no further complications.    Caleb is very playful, and spends his days racing around the backyard with his younger foster brother. He gets along with all dogs, and enjoys playdates with all the neighbors - all the kids come to his house! On wooded hikes he stays on the end of the leash but doesn't pull too hard; in the neighborhood, though, he gets excited when he sees squirrels! He loves watching them through the front window and chasing them when they scramble along the backyard fence, too. Sadly, he's not quite agile or fast enough to catch one!   Caleb is a great house dog. He's firmly housebroken, doesn't get on furniture,  and doesn't make any attempt to run out when the front door is opened. He has a classic soft sable coat, is mid-sized (about 60 pounds), and he is all happiness and smiles! Caleb would love a home with a big yard and an energetic playmate. He is a sweet, sweet boy, and will bring love and joy to any family lucky enough to adopt him! If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Story
Nadia is a gorgeous 3-year-old female Collie mix. She is friendly and affectionate though she can be a little shy initially in new situations. She loves being around her people. She is house trained on a schedule and crate trained. She has lived in a home with teenagers and loves them. She enjoys playing with the neighborhood dogs. She is a submissive gal, we recommend a meet and greet if there is an existing dog in the home. She knows the sit command. Meet and greets are by appointment only. She has L1/L2 hemivertebra, which is not bothering her but it’s important that she maintains her healthy weight of 30 pounds. Adoption fee is waived for this pup, however, submitting the online application and being approved is required. This pup is microchipped. We believe you can always teach an ‘old’ dog new tricks so we highly recommend continued obedience training for this smart pup; it stimulates the dog's mind and establishes a good dog/adopter relationship. This pup, like all pups should be on heartworm preventative, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption form, downloadable from our website: https://www.lastchanceanimalrescue.org/adoption-request-form/ and return it per instructions. Email dogs@lastchanceanimalrescue.org with questions. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates: www.facebook.com/lcarmd
