Story
Meet Jolie. 53 lbs, 9 yrs, DOB 3/18/2016. She is healthy, quite active and playful. No signs of any joint issues. She loves to run with the dogs, play with stuffed toys but her specialty is squirrel hunting. She is completely housebroken, crate trained and is quite happy on her cozy dog bed. She can be a barker if left out to stalk those pesty squirrels but otherwise is just delightful and so well behaved. Jolie loves her people, children and even kitty cats. Jolie’s senior owner passed away and was entrusted by family to HCR for finding the perfect home. She came fully vetted and very loved. We’ve even had her teeth cleaned so she is now ready for adoption. Jolie does show a history of outdoor allergies that if left untreated can make her miserable with hair loss so she’s been on cytopoint which is working wonders and her coat has made great improvement Please do not apply if you are not familiar with the need for maintenance cytopoint injections as needed one about every 3-4 months approximately $85-100. We want to keep this special girl happy, healthy and comfortable. If Jolie is for you please apply at : https://houstoncollierescue.org/ado.../adoption-application/

Story
Handsome Leo is 18 months old and looking for a family of his own. He weighs in the mid 50’s now but will fill out to the low to mid 60 lb range. He will also grow his mature collie coat over the next year. He has beautiful naturally tipped ears. He is neutered and current on vaccinations. Leo was pulled from a shelter after being found as a stray so we don’t know much about his past. But it isn’t hard to figure out he was an ignored outside dog. He has been working to learn the “how to be adopted” rules and is now a very nice family dog. He is healthy, sweet, affectionate, and good with other dogs. He would do well with children over the age of toddler. He is house trained. He doesn’t care for the crate and will let you know he isn’t happy but will settle down and rest after a short time. He goes in easily with a treat. I provide him with plenty of safe chew toys and he hasn’t destroyed anything in the house. Leo would be happiest with a young, playful dog friend. If his owners are home most of the time and he has a good size yard to run around in, he would be fine as an only dog too. If he has a shortcoming it’s that he doesn’t jump into the car and must be lifted. His new family will need a strong back as this boy fills out. But once in the car, he rides very well. He is very outgoing and confident in the house but is frightened when we go places. He just hasn’t seen much of the world is all. His new family can work on socializing him if they want to take him places. If Leo sounds like your kind of collie, apply at houstoncollierescue.org.

Star is a stunning Collie whose name perfectly captures her radiant personality. She's a well-mannered, gentle soul who gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes, making her an ideal addition to any family. Star is both crate trained and house trained, proving just how adaptable and well-behaved she is. While we're not sure how she does with cats, we suspect she would do okay with a proper introduction. Though Star has an autoimmune skin condition, she's doing great with her current care, which is very affordable. With her medication and a loving home, she will continue to lead a happy and healthy life. Star is a loving, loyal companion who will be ready for adoption soon. If you're looking for a furry friend who'll fit right in and add a sparkle to your days, Star is the one for you. https://houstoncollierescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/

Introducing handsome and loving Beau!!! Beau is a rough collie about 4 years old. This special boy is a total love bug! He attaches to his person very quickly and claims them. He is an extreme cuddler most content sitting in his human’s lap. Beau loves his toys and great at playing fetch. He knows basic commands, walks well on a leash and is housetrained. Beau loves to play with other dogs and needs to have a buddy that is a bit submissive. He’s great with cats too! He’s also a gem on the grooming table. Beau is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. His owner passed away and was rehomed to a family that didn’t treat him very well. Beau is quite protective of his home if a visitor comes over. He should be kenneled or leashed when visitors come by. Poor guy is a bit storm phobic and will shake wanting comfort from you. Beau is just the best but will need an experienced owner that understands his territorial quirks. Appy at https://houstoncollierescue.org/

Story
Bonnie is a sweet and bouncy shepherd/collie mix about a year old and 55-60 lbs. She is extremely friendly and loves people and dogs. Do you want a dog that follows you from room to room? Do you want a cuddly lap dog who is super happy to go everywhere with you? That is Bonnie! She has great dog manners and is submissive with new dogs. Bonnie gets excited to meet new people and jumps around a lot but then calms down quickly. Bonnie will fit in great with another dog, but she would also be happy as an only dog as long as she gets lots of attention from her people. She is a sensitive girl who is very easy to train but will get her feelings hurt if you raise your voice at her. Bonnie can get shy and overwhelmed in a home with constant noise and activity, so we suggest a home with older kids (6 or older). She has good house manners, housebroken, knows how to use a doggie door, walks on a leash, loads and travels in a car, and loves new people. Is there anything bad about Bonnie? Well, your socks and slippers are not safe around her! Complete an application at https://houstoncollierescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/

She is house trained, walks well on a leash, and if needed, can be crated, but she does fine being left out. She has yet to chew any toys that are not hers! She does well with children. Story
Chip is a playful, affectionate and loves toys and cuddle time. He was born on May 6, 2024 to a large litter! Mom was 50% collie and dad was 100% Australian Cattle Dog, with DNA result to show! Despite his name Busy, he has a great off-switch and will happily curl up after a play session for some serious snuggles. He’s crate trained and does well with potty breaks—he’s rarely had an accident. He is learning how to let you know, but if you let him out regularly you will have no problems! Chip is food motivated, which makes him easy to train and a quick learner. While he can pull a bit on walks when he’s comfy, he responds well to gentle reminders. Chip has been around children (including a 12-year-old), but he does have a tendency to jump up for attention, so he’d be best in a home with older kids. He does show mild resource guarding with toys (just holding them close with his paws and mouth), but no aggression—just a little possessiveness. With a little training I am sure this can easily be resolved as he is so smart! He’s fantastic with other dogs of all sizes and personalities. He gets along with both submissive dogs and more dominant ones. He’ll hold his own if necessary but knows when to back off. Chip is a cat chaser, though—if there’s one around, he’s on the hunt! So, no cats for Chip. He’s a big lover of human attention and thrives on companionship. He’s the type of dog that will happily hang out on his back in your arms (aka "Floppy Dog"). Chip enjoys being on the couch, getting his belly rubbed, or just leaning into you for affection. Training-wise, he knows "sit" and is ready to learn more, especially with food as his motivator! He is a bit of a counter surfer, so keep an eye on him in the kitchen. Chip’s an active boy who loves toys and needs plenty of chew options (a Kong and rope toys are his faves). He’s not a fan of car rides but is improving with practice. He’s also a bit picky about how he eats—slow feeders work best, especially if they don’t have a continuous circle pattern (he’ll chase the kibble around!). If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, and playful companion, Chip is your guy! He’s been loved and cared for since he was a tiny puppy, and now he’s ready to find his forever home.
