Story
Meet Jewel – The Snuggle Pro! Looking for a loving, loyal, snugly companion? Jewel is your girl! This 3-year-old Aussie mix (best guess) is a certified couch potato and professional cuddle bug. Weighing just 36 pounds, she’s the perfect size for any home or apartment. Jewel’s perfect day includes belly rubs, gentle walks, and soaking up all the love she can get. She’ll even place her paw on you to ask for more pets. House-trained and great on a leash, Jewel is friendly and curious with both people and other dogs when out and about. She charms everyone she meets with her sweet, soulful eyes and affectionate nature. Jewel would thrive as the only pup in the home to get all of your love and attention or with an adopter willing to help her learn trust and boundaries around other dogs inside the home, as she loves her cozy spaces and prefers other dogs give her space while she is resting as she is still decompressing from shelter life. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will shower you with love, Jewel is ready to be your perfect match. Jewel is currently being fostered in Staten Island. Her adoption fee is $425. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MARGO was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Friday, 14th February. We post our available dogs in states across the east coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes to find perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs, families must come to the rescue to meet and then hopefully take home.. MARGO is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm and tick tested negative, is on monthly flea/tick prevention and was given the 12 month pro-heart heartworm prevention injection in February 2025. She is microchipped and on 12 February weighed 58.20 pounds. She has an estimated date of birth of January 2023. We do not know what the breed is, we expect families to decide looking at any pictures and video's provide and decide if the breed is a good fit for their family. The shelter volunteer stated (8 January) Dog didn't mind the other and made way away from others to relax to self for some time and showed some playful energy with the others once getting warmed up with the group. (16 January) High energy, jumpy, social with people, loose wiggly body, wants to play and run, high energy. (22 January) During the observation Margo was a good girl, she listens to the command sit and has a burst of energy. (28 January) High energy, jumpy, knows sit, knows shake, leash puller. Social with dogs and people, loose wiggly body. Love bug, wants to play, wants to run, solicits pets. Knows sit, shake, energetic, jumper, loves to run interests in dogs leash reactive.  (Rescue comments - it is important to take into account when reading these comments that these dogs are in a strange environment with a lot of dogs, and they are learning about each other in a very small space of time, it is high stimulation environment, also often the first time they have had exercise with other dogs.  Comments are from volunteers, not trainers or behavio rists). We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. MARGO is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550, as noted she is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine and families are required to complete and submit an  adoption application and when approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home this sweet girl. Applications are processed with 24 hours of them being received. Story
WINGER - 16 weeks & 27lbs (as of 2/6), Collie/PYR Mix, Neutered Expected Full Grown Size About 80lbs This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Winger is a confident, intelligent, and affectionate puppy. He loves to be by your side and is eager to please. He listens well and is a very quick learner. For a puppy he has a very calm energy in the sense that he’s great on a leash or will sit next to you calmly at the park and understands rest periods. That being said, he does need a lot of mental and physical stimulation. For now this looks like longer walks in the morning and evening and lots of chew toys that he can play with by himself or with you during the day as well as practicing basic commands. He is great with kids and other dogs. Very gentle and not mouthy (unless he is bored and restless). He does not appear to be easily frightened, despite being very new to the city sounds. He doesn’t appear to have many dislikes yet, but he loves to cuddle, play with other dogs, and chew on his toys." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy levelMEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelHigh -- Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents Comfy with strangers?Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy Good with Other Dogs?Yes -- Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested Mouthy Behavior?Medium – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc. but does like to chew on things it’s not supposed to like shoes, furniture, etc. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. Okay in the city?Yes -- Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Jumping on People to Say Hi:Low -- Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor. Separation Anxiety?MEDIUM: Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Crate training?Yep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
CLASH - 4 months & 20lbs (as of 1/11), Lab Mix, Spayed Expected Full Grown Size About 60lbs  Their Foster Parent Says: " So far Clash has been sweet and energetic. I would rate her energy level at a manageable medium. She has a nice balance of following you around the house and entertaining herself with kongs, chew toys, balls, etc. She's only 13 weeks and isn't housebroken yet but we take her out regularly and she's already doing well with potty training and learning home boundaries. We're not using a crate and haven't left Clash alone much since my partner and I work from home but Clash is fine while we're working in the space she's made her own. Our daily routine consists of a walk first thing in the morning and Clash quickly became familiar with the process of getting ready and in & out the door, she's a natural! She pulls a bit on the leash and is still getting used to all the noises & surprises of the city but is learning to walk on leash just fine. Clash eats three times a day and we take regular walks around the neighborhood throughout the day to encourage potty training. We take a final walk after dinner Clash naps a bit throughout the day but for the most part she sleeps when we do.We haven't taken Clash to any dog parks and don't have a good sense yet of how she interacts with other dogs but she's more cautious than curious when we encounter other dogs on the street. She's still a bit shy but friendly and receptive to new humans. Clash plays well and is a bit mouthy when she's excited but not more than the average pup. Overall it's been great having Clash, she's sweet, smart and loves to learn." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug LevelMedium-high — Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed Potty TrainedWorking on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Comfy with strangers?Sort of — Fine with meeting new people but kind of shy, very timid in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Social with Other Dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to. Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners. Mouthy Behavior?Medium! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash Manners?Getting the Hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in its life but he/she is figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction.  Okay in the city?Sort of — Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust  Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.  Separation Anxiety?Medium - Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas.
