Story
Cassidy found herself on the euthanasia list at a local shelter. Not because she had anything wrong with her, but just because the shelters are currently so overwhelmed. Luckily, we were able to find a foster for her and it turns out she is a great girl! At 6 years old, she is settled, housebroken, crate-trained, and has good house manners. We haven’t yet seen her around kids, but have no reason to believe she wouldn’t be OK with them. She likes most dogs as long as they realize she isn’t a young playful pup anymore and would rather just hang out with them rather than roughhouse. She likes to follow her people around and hang out with them. If you would like to make Cassidy a part of your family, please fill out an app! She is a young and sweet South Carolina girl on the hunt for her forever home. She can be a little shy with people, but warms up quickly and once she does, you'll have a true friend in Apple. Apple can be a bit dog selective and likely would do best in a home where she is the only dog. Despite her initial shyness, Apple has a lot of unconditional love and loyalty to give. She's just waiting for that special someone who will be hers forever. Could that person be you? Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Female, 7 years old, 51 lbs. Personality: Trustworthy, serious, independent, and adaptable. Tallulah has a heart full of love and a laid-back attitude that makes her the best cuddle buddy. This gentle girl enjoys the simple pleasures in life—whether it's curling up beside you for a cozy nap, basking in the sun, or soaking up attention from her favorite humans, she brings joy and warmth to the home. Tallulah's sweet nature makes it easy for her to connect with people, and she has a knack for finding her favorite cozy spots to unwind. Plus, she has a spotless record of no accidents in the house. Tallulah is a loving and affectionate dog who enjoys her time with people. She's learned a variety of words like "sit," "stay," "down," "quiet," "paw," "go to bed," and "breakfast." She is perfecting sharing affection and toys and would do best in a home without other dogs or young children. Tallulah's also crate-trained. She's currently working on leash training, making her walks more enjoyable each day. If you're looking for a loving, gentle dog to be your best friend, Tallulah is ready to steal your heart! --- If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a DOG: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html Interested in saving more lives? Foster a dog today! Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Name: Citra Sex: Female Estimated Age: 6 years old Best Guess for Breed: Border Collie Mix Weight: 59lbs Lives With: Citra is currently living with two adults in an apartment environment. Housetrained? Citra is housebroken and crate trained. She also knows all of her basic commands. About Citra: Citra is an adorable 4 year old border collie mix who is incredibly smart and loves to learn new tricks. Fun facts: she knows over 15 commands and is working on several more, she’s a mozzarella cheese aficionado and butt scratches are her favorite! She also loves sunbathing - she can go for hours without moving from a sunny spot! Please read more about her below! CITRA’S PERFECT MATCH: PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults is ideal. Citra needs crate time when guests come over, but can warm up with a slow introduction and some treats. Because she is shy, we are recommending she not go to a home with small children. She can be quite scared of other dogs and cats, and would do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has been working her hardest with us to overcome her fears, and has shown lots of progress recently! PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. EXERCISE NEEDS: Citra enjoys long walks on the leash and rolling in the grass belly side up at the park. She could play fetch and tug all day long with her humans! However, she is also very content to lounge around the house. She is such a playful pup and would love to learn new games and activities! She loves untangling a towel to get to her food, and that tires her out just as much as a walk! She should not be taken to dog parks. BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Citra is a sweetheart. She loves to play with her humans and then take naps on the couch or in her crate. She is slowly but surely learning how to interact with new humans, but it takes a lot of treats and patience to gain her trust. Once she gets comfortable, she would love nothing more but to snuggle up with you all night long. She is quiet and comfortable in her crate, knows the “place” command, and does not have accidents in the home. CRATE: Citra loves her crate, she will sleep and relax there during the day and while her humans are not at home. She also sleeps in there all night long! Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. The fee to adopt Citra is $450. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines and already spayed. Citra has been seen by a shelter vet and we are not aware of any health issues. If you think that Citra might be your perfect match, apply today!January 8, 2025, 5:08 pm

Story
Nadia is a gorgeous 3-year-old female Collie mix. She is friendly and affectionate though she can be a little shy initially in new situations. She loves being around her people. She is house trained on a schedule and crate trained. She has lived in a home with teenagers and loves them. She enjoys playing with the neighborhood dogs. She is a submissive gal, we recommend a meet and greet if there is an existing dog in the home. She knows the sit command. Meet and greets are by appointment only. She has L1/L2 hemivertebra, which is not bothering her but it’s important that she maintains her healthy weight of 30 pounds. Adoption fee is waived for this pup, however, submitting the online application and being approved is required. This pup is microchipped. We believe you can always teach an ‘old’ dog new tricks so we highly recommend continued obedience training for this smart pup; it stimulates the dog's mind and establishes a good dog/adopter relationship. This pup, like all pups should be on heartworm preventative, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption form, downloadable from our website: https://www.lastchanceanimalrescue.org/adoption-request-form/ and return it per instructions. Story
Boh was a pandemic puppy, born in October 2020, that we bought that December from a private breeder in Pennsylvania. She is now almost 4 years old and medium build at about 51 pounds in size. Her full name is “Bohdana”, a Slavic name meaning “God given” because Boh came into our family at just the right time to help my teenage daughter through the pandemic loneliness. Boh is an “only-dog” in that we had no other dogs but her, and she was never really around other dogs. We had cats that Boh accepted and never had problems. Boh always thinks that visitors (kids and adults) are there to see her! So she is a bit spoiled and will jump to people just to say “hi” and be hugged and petted. She’s never had problems meeting new people, including kids. She loves to play fetch with people, especially new people! Because Boh grew up in a big house with a big fenced-in yard (but with no neighbors close by), she tends to be afraid of loud noises, like thunderstorms, fireworks, even the sound of vacuum cleaners. And she’s wary of new dogs, timid before moving on to something else that interests her. Generally, Boh has slowly accepted some of the neighborhood dogs when I control the meeting process. A change in our family status, a move to a townhouse and a job that has me traveling frequently means that Boh is now alone for longer periods of time, with no large backyard to run in. She’s more isolated than before and I can see her separation anxiety growing. I can’t give her the life that she deserves, so I’m hoping to find her a nice family who can play with her, give her a large space to run like she used to in my old house, and give her the attention she once had. My Profile Age: 4 years Weight: 51 pounds Good with kids: Yes Good with dogs: I'm OK with some dogs, but I'd like to be an only dog Good with cats: Yes Fenced yard: Preferred Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Only if you have a place nearby for me to run. House trained: Yes. Crate trained: Unknown but not necessary Barks when left alone: I’ll bark when you leave, but then I’ll settle down Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Boh is not formally trained but good on a leash and knows a couple commands such as "Sit", "Stay", "Come inside" Activity level: High Meet Me If you'd like to meet Boh or get more information about her, send an email to Andrew Hood, at aahood62@gmail.com
