I'm young, full of energy, and always ready for a good play session. I've never met a dog I didn't want to play with, and my best buddies are as fond of playtime as I am. I like making new friends and will show off my beautiful smile when I'm happy to see you. I will need an active home, but I promise to bring joy, laughter, and an endless supply of love into your life. Adopt me, and let's create wonderful memories together!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. She is a young and sweet South Carolina girl on the hunt for her forever home. She can be a little shy with people, but warms up quickly and once she does, you'll have a true friend in Apple. Apple can be a bit dog selective and likely would do best in a home where she is the only dog. Despite her initial shyness, Apple has a lot of unconditional love and loyalty to give. She's just waiting for that special someone who will be hers forever. Could that person be you? Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. Story
Introducing Tallulah, the companion you've been dreaming of! This gentle girl has a heart full of love and a laid-back attitude that makes her the best cuddle buddy. Tallulah enjoys the simple pleasures in life-whether it's curling up beside you for a cozy nap, basking in the sun, or soaking up attention from her favorite humans, she brings joy and warmth to the home. Tallulah's sweet nature makes it easy for her to connect with people, and she has a knack for finding her favorite cozy spots to unwind. Plus, she has a spotless record of no accidents in the house. This smart girl knows lots of words: "sit," "stay," "down," and "quiet" are just a few examples of her extensive vocabulary! Tallulah is still learning to share affection and toys with others and right now would do best in a home without another dog or young children. If you're looking for a loving and gentle addition to your home, Tallulah is all set to steal your heart! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a DOG: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html Interested in saving more lives? Foster a dog today! Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Story
Please contact Chandler Jaffe (chandler.jaffe@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.TURKS NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Turks      Best Guess for Breed:  Collie/shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of July 2024       Gender:  Female Approximate Weight:  40lbs as of July 2024 Gets Along With: Other dogs! She is also living with cats and is doing well with them. We haven’t seen Turks with kids, but she can be tested! Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter; needs a forever home in the DC area! Special Adoption Considerations: Turks is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Turks is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweet girl needs a new home through no fault of her own. She's eager to once again have her own humans. Long sniffy walks and world exploration with them is on her wish list, as are a cushy dog bed and quality kibble. But you know what's right at the top of the list? Being safe and loved and under her own roof for all his days.  What My Foster Says About Me: Turks is an absolute sweetheart who wants to give love and be loved. Turks is a chill dog who could easily become a couch potato. She loves to go on walks and does well on the leash. She is working on heel. Since arriving, Turks' confidence has improved as she is no longer nervous about street noises when going on walks. Turks has recently learned the joy of running and loves to run on the leash and in the backyard. She lives with an older calm dog and does very well with him. They have recently begun to play together and chase each other. Turks demonstrates a more submissive play style. She seems to do best with calmer dogs. Turks is beginning to play with toys preferring to chew and play fetch (with stuffed toys, not balls). Turks does great in her crate, sleeping through the night and spending several hours each day in it. She recently spent time with a temporary foster and did well sleeping through the night without a crate. Turks has had no potty accidents since arriving at fosters. She lives with two cats and can often be found sleeping next to them. When the cats are running around, Turks does not join the chase, just watches them. The cats and Turks will often touch noses as they pass by each other, and she does not mind cats winding themselves around her legs. Turks can be quite shy at adoption events however once Turks get to know people, she has so much love to share. She requires patience to allow her to feel comfortable.  Check out this video of Turks here! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Boh was a pandemic puppy, born in October 2020, that we bought that December from a private breeder in Pennsylvania. She is now almost 4 years old and medium build at about 51 pounds in size. Her full name is “Bohdana”, a Slavic name meaning “God given” because Boh came into our family at just the right time to help my teenage daughter through the pandemic loneliness. Boh is an “only-dog” in that we had no other dogs but her, and she was never really around other dogs. We had cats that Boh accepted and never had problems. Boh always thinks that visitors (kids and adults) are there to see her! So she is a bit spoiled and will jump to people just to say “hi” and be hugged and petted. She’s never had problems meeting new people, including kids. She loves to play fetch with people, especially new people! Because Boh grew up in a big house with a big fenced-in yard (but with no neighbors close by), she tends to be afraid of loud noises, like thunderstorms, fireworks, even the sound of vacuum cleaners. And she’s wary of new dogs, timid before moving on to something else that interests her. Generally, Boh has slowly accepted some of the neighborhood dogs when I control the meeting process. A change in our family status, a move to a townhouse and a job that has me traveling frequently means that Boh is now alone for longer periods of time, with no large backyard to run in. She’s more isolated than before and I can see her separation anxiety growing. I can’t give her the life that she deserves, so I’m hoping to find her a nice family who can play with her, give her a large space to run like she used to in my old house, and give her the attention she once had. My Profile Age: 4 years Weight: 51 pounds Good with kids: Yes Good with dogs: I'm OK with some dogs, but I'd like to be an only dog Good with cats: Yes Fenced yard: Preferred Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Only if you have a place nearby for me to run. House trained: Yes. Crate trained: Unknown but not necessary Barks when left alone: I’ll bark when you leave, but then I’ll settle down Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Boh is not formally trained but good on a leash and knows a couple commands such as "Sit", "Stay", "Come inside" Activity level: High Meet Me If you'd like to meet Boh or get more information about her, send an email to Andrew Hood, at aahood62@gmail.com
