Story
To apply or learn more, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/2024/11/5/dude Meet DUDE! Rescued by HFP with his littermates and mom last winter, he was lovingly hand raised in foster care and adopted around 2-3 months of age. Unfortunately, it was not a forever match and now Dude is in need of a new home. He is an exuberant, friendly, active young dog who would love an equally active home. He may love agility training! He has lived with kids, cats and made dog friends, but may do best in a pre-teen + home as he can jump up in excitement and knock down small children/overwhelm smaller animals. More notes about DUDE: Where did you get this dog?: Hearts For Paws Rescue How long have you owned this dog?: 7 months (adopted at 3 months of age) Why is the dog being given up?: His activity level is more than we are able to accommodate. He and our cats have been unsuccessful in cohabitation, as he will constantly approach very quickly (though friendly), which scares them. Additionally, we have several small nieces and he will approach children in a similarly exuberant fashion. He is an incredible dog, but we aren't the right family for him. More about Dude: Dude is very smart, and picks up commands very quickly. He is very treat motivated. However he is extremely excitable, especially when there are other dogs or new people. He has never been aggressive, but is determined to play. Check the words that best describe your dog.: FRIENDLY, NOISY, ACTIVE, PLAYFUL, SMART, AFFECTIONATE Is your dog housebroken?: Yes Does the dog get along with: Dog-Friendly Are there any behavior problems?: Yes If yes, please describe in as much detail as possible: Dude is very reactive. If there are other dogs he will bark to try and initiate play. If there are other dogs barking in the neighborhood he will rush out to bark, as well. When new people are present he will try and jump up on them for several minutes until calmed down, at which point he stops. Please elaborate on your dogs interactions with other dogs in detail: He has had play interactions with two friendly dogs owned by friends/neighbors. Both dogs are medium/large dogs with low energy. He had a consistently high level of activity during play, even after the other dogs were finished playing. He has had cursory interactions with other dogs during training sessions and was consistently attempting to interact with them until a vision barrier was put in place. He has never been aggressive towards other dogs. Does your dog have handling sensitivities? How is your dog meeting strangers?: He want's to meet and be with everyone he sees. If they come to the house, or out in public, he whines and makes it clear he wants to see/ meet them. He has been trained to sit before getting pet, but it has had minimal success due to his excitability. Does the dog like children?: Yes Are there children in the home?: Yes What are their ages?: 7 Where does the dog sleep?: crate Is the dog allowed on your furniture?: No Is the dog crate trained?: Yes Where do you keep your dog: free access to doggie door, kept to kitchen and dining area (away from cats) How does the dog react to being left alone?: He may whine and cry for a few minutes, but is able to be left in his crate overnight and has been able to be left alone at home for several hours. Please list any particular fears your dog has.: none that are known. Describe any training the dog has, tricks it knows, and any experience with a trainer.: Graduated beginner course at PetSmart. Knows sit, down, come, wait, take it, leave it. He is leash trained Does the dog have any known health problems?: No Does the dog like riding in the car?: Yes What is the dog's favorite : He likes tough fabric toys and tug toys, but will destroy any non-KONG rubber toy in a few minutes by ripping it apart. Walks, fetch (or rather keep away), and tug-o-war. He also enjoys wrestling, but we have curbed that behavior in favor of more tug-o-war to discourage jumping on people. What does the dog like?: Play and attention, and the chance to run. What does the dog dislike?: being bored, or cooped up indoors. Does the dog jump kiddie gates or fences?: No Is there anything else you can share that is special, unusual, or endearing about your dog that will help the new owners?: Dude loves everyone. He has high energy and is very smart, so he likes a lot of different interactions. He is very perceptive to training, but can get distracted.. He really likes baby carrots. Despite his high desire to meet/greet new people, he respects barriers that are set for where he can go; we have a baby gate set up that he will not cross, even when open. Are there any things you think a new owner needs to know?: His high (exuberance) needs to be taken into account at all times. If anything new comes in his area of perception, he will be extremely enthusiastic about it. This is great for people who love dogs, but may be scary to small children, small animals, or people with aversion to dogs. He has never been aggressive towards anyone/anything, but he will approach new people/things very quickly and enthusiastically. He may love agility training! Story
Rigby ended up at a shelter after being attacked by several others dogs. Although his injuries were not severe, it seems it has made him a bit untrusting at first. Once he is comfy with you, he is a sweet playful happy boy! Rigby's wishlist: 1. Secure yard/no apartments 2. Adult only home 3. A playful, well mannered dog companion under 30 lbs to play chase with 4. Herding breed experienced person 5. Daily walks, playtime and continued training are recommended 6. Possible adopters available for multiple meets Rigby is a sweet, medium energy cattle dog mix. He is thought to be approximately 3 1/2 years old and is currently 23 lbs. Rigby is playful and loves to play chase with other friendly dogs. He feels most comfortable with dogs who are similar in size to him or smaller. He does not enjoy rough play or overly rough dogs who like to wrestle or play fight. He enjoys going for walks and walks politely on a leash. He likes a yard to explore and play in and is an alert barker so no apartments for him. He is crate trained and housebroken in his foster home. Rigby seems to prefer women and can be somewhat intimidated by men. He does well with men who are gentle and understand the needs of a timid dog. He can be shy when meeting new people but has shown he will warm up with slow, gentle introductions and treats. Once he is bonded to a favorite person he is loyal, affectionate and sweet. He enjoys following his person around the house and yard. Children would overwhelm him so an adult only home is recommended. Rigby would do well in a quiet home with a friendly, confident dog companion to pal around with, help show him the ropes and keep him company while his humans are away from home. He would be best suited for a person who has the time, patience and understanding to help him continue to grow more confident and trusting. Rigby currently lives and gets along with dog savvy cats but he will challenge shy kitties and chase if they run. He will chase outdoor cats who enter the yard. Rigby is a sweet, funny little guy who is waiting for his forever home. Story
Introducing Pokey Puppy!!! Pokey's estimated dob is May 2023.  He came to us in poor condition from one of the Central Valley shelters so had little hope of making it out.  Pokey has had good care and good groceries and has flourished.  He appears to be a short stack Cattle Dog mix given his coloration and some of his behaviors.  Pokey is still shy with new people and to some extent other dogs so patience will be needed for his transition.  Once he is comfortable, he is happy and playful.  Pokey has been learning about the wide world and walks the neighborhood everyday.  He will continue to need exposure and reassurance for outings as he matures,  along with solid training.  Pokey is currently 23-24 lbs and will most like be between 30-40 lbs at maturity.  He is a strong and active player so another sturdy playful pup would be good.  Pokey  sleeps in his crate at night.  He has also mastered the dog door.  And he is pretty much potty trained. Pokey's wishlist: 1.  Fenced yard 2.  Daily walks and activity 3.  No young children.  Older respectful children  4.  Continued training  5.  Patience and leadership 6.  A compatible playmate Please email right away if you would like to learn more about this dog......and visit our website www.siarescuers.org to learn more about our rescue group. Story
Meet Reo, a young, sweet, and goofy dog. His playful spirit is contagious, brightening the room with his infectious energy. Reo loves nothing more than a good game of fetch, followed by a cuddle session on the couch. He`s always up for an adventure, whether it`s exploring a new hiking trail or simply playing in the backyard. Reo is also a quick learner and eager to please, making him a joy to train. But above all, Reo is a loyal companion. He`s looking for a family who will cherish his boundless energy and sweet nature. Adopt Reo and let his playful spirit bring joy to your home. Reo plays rough with children, so we are requiring that any children in his new home are age 10 or older. He may do well with other dogs in his new home after a slow introduction.Adoption Price: $250
