Story
Garland is a 1 year old, 40 lb, Aussie / Collie blend who joined us as a stray, and with no family coming forward he's now looking for his forever home. He's an active, high energy boy, typical for his age, who loves running and playing in our Scentral Park. He is easy to handle, and knows basic commands. He is treat motivated and learns quickly. Garland has a scar near his eye that the vet said is some sort of past trauma. If there are kids in the home, he'll be happiest with kids 12+. Garland is residing at the adoption center and would be thrilled to meet you!No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the dog. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Story
MEET MAISIE!!! Maisie is a sweet and shy girl. She was on and saved from the euthanasia list at County for being fearful. However, it only took her two days to become comfortable with her fosters, and they say her personality continues to emerge more and more each day. Maisie is exceptionally smart. She is trained to sit, shake, sit to be be leashed, sit before meals and waits for a release cue. She is trained to potty on command. She is currently working on crate training. The door is open at all times and treats are tossed in for her to become comfortable entering/exiting the crate. Maisie is an active dog and requires at least twice daily walks or runs. She would make an excellent hiking partner as well. She is not destructive when left alone but can be vocal at times. Maisie will need daily brushing; she sheds like a German Shepherd. She has shown some resource guarding when it comes to her space, her people or her treats. She is a submissive female and gets along well with the other foster dogs.  Maisie has tendencies to escape, so she is still walked in the yard on a leash for now. She is double-leashed for walks because she can be startled/interested by passing cars. She is non-reactive to passing dogs on walks. When she trusts you, she is the sweetest snuggliest dog. Adopters should be aware of canine body language and recognize when she is uncomfortable with strangers. Let her approach strangers at her own pace. She is responsive to "low, side greetings." Maisie is a great dog who would excel in a calm home where she feels safe and comfortable. Meet Maisie today!  January 11, 2025, 11:57 pm

Hello, I'm Elisa. I may be a senior, but my heart is full of love to give. I'm a sweet, mellow, and gentle soul. I enjoy a short walk every day; It's my little adventure, a time to sniff around and stretch my legs. I'm a bit of a food critic, you see. I like my meals just so, but once I find something I love, I stick to it. Most of my day, you'll find me lounging around, a true couch potato. I'm house trained and well-behaved; I'm not the type to cause a fuss. I'm just looking for a loving home where I can spend my golden years. I promise to be your loyal companion, your quiet confidante, and your source of unconditional love. My adoption fee is $250 and includes the following: -Spay/neuter surgery -All current vaccinations -Microchip -FREE wellness exam through VCA Animal Hospitals -$25 gift voucher from our friends at My Pet Market For more information about me or to schedule a meet and greet appointment, please complete an adoption questionnaire.

Story
Sunshine has been looking for a home for 278 DAYS!!! Sunshine was found in a storm drain in CA. This was the 3rd time he had ended up in the shelter. This time, his owners didn't want him back and he was going to be euthanized. Sunshine is the life of the party! Pony hopping up and down the yard, any chance he gets. He is a wildly intelligent dog. He is a big fan of other dogs, that are gentle with him. His energy is unlike anything we've ever felt. He's a very special boy. Someone described him as a "new soul" and that connected all the pieces, that's exactly what it feels like! He is almost completely deaf and has some vision impairment, more so affecting him at night. Sunshine has a smaller forebrain and cerebellum than most dogs, causing a slight wobble and unsteady gait. He just looks like he's had a few too many drinks! He's completely self-sufficient and can move and potty on his own. He loves to pickup stuffed animals and toss them around! His disability doesn't get in his way whatsoever! As far as we know, Sunny was born like this. He LOVES napping and being glued on to your lap on the couch. He's the sweetest and quietest boy we've only heard him bark less than 5 times and its the cutest noise you will ever hear. Pics don't do him justice, he's very small and loves to be carried around. Story
We told Vanilla Ice that we were going to take his picture so we can post him online so we can find him a new family. His response was to go play in the biggest mud puddle he could find! Then he said, "I'm ready, let's do this!"  Vanilla Ice was picked up by animal control, living under a manufactured home in a nearby town with his siblings. Best guess is that he is a heeler/husky cross by looking at him and his siblings. We never saw his mom so it is just a best guess. The whole litter was very shy, and we had to put in some extra work to get them to be friendly and social with humans and they are doing great now. They are ready to find their new homes now. They are current on their vaccinations, deworms, microchipped and have been fixed. PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question please ask in the e-mail.   All dog are adopted on a first come - first served basis. Story
Hi, I'm Lily, and I'm looking for a new home. I'm a sweet and friendly dog who loves to play and cuddle. I'm about 3 years old, but I still have a lot of energy and curiosity. I get along well with other dogs, big and small, and I don't mind cats or children either. I'm very loyal and affectionate, and I'll always be by your side. I was turned into the pound by my previous owners, and I don't know why. Maybe they couldn't take care of me anymore, or maybe they didn't love me enough. It was very scary and sad, but luckily I was rescued by the kind people at Central Arizona Animal Rescue. They took good care of me, and made sure I was spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I already know some basic commands and I am am pretty good with my manners, and I think I'm doing pretty well. I'm not sure if I'm house trained, I think I am but I'm willing to learn and please you. I'm ready to start a new life with a loving family who will cherish me and never abandon me. I promise to be a good girl and a faithful companion. If you're looking for a furry friend who will brighten up your days and warm up your nights, please e-mail mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment and come and meet me. I can't wait to see you and give you a big kiss. PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Story
Hello, world! I'm Buckley, a 1-year-old red heeler mix with a little extra wiggle in my walk, thanks to something called cerebellar hypoplasia (or CH for short). Now, CH might sound fancy, but all it really means is that I have a unique swagger—think of me as your own personal, four-legged dance partner. My walk might be wobbly, but I don’t let it slow me down one bit! I was rescued from a tough situation, but those days are behind me. Now, I’m living the good life in my foster home, where I’m thriving and showing off my joyful personality every single day. Sure, I might take a tumble now and then—especially when I'm super excited—but I always bounce back with a smile (and maybe a little help from my friends). The best part? My condition isn’t contagious, and it won’t get any worse. I’m self-sufficient and love doing all the things a young pup should—running, playing, eating, and even riding in the car. I’m a pro at walking on a leash, I get along great with other dogs, and I absolutely adore kids. I sleep soundly in my crate at night and don’t need any special medications, just a little patience and a lot of love. I’m looking for a special family who can see past my wobbles and into my heart. If you’re ready to embrace my quirks and help me live my best life, I promise to fill your days with endless joy and plenty of puppy love. So, what do you say? Ready to let me wobble my way into your heart? Buckley is 38lbs, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. We offer meet and greet with trial run before adoption so you can see how it will work out before deciding to adopt - no pressure, no risk. Visit cooperschance.org for online application.   All Cooper’s Chance adoptable pets are spayed/neutered, UTD on shots, heartworm negative, de-wormed, micro chipped and housebroken. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please visit our website at cooperschance.org for additional information. We are a 501c3 non profit, your donations save lives and are 100% tax deductible.October 28, 2024, 12:56 pm
