Precious does have some squinting in one of her eyes, and it may be permanent. We are treating it and hope it is allergies. She can still be adopted with her squinting. Weight: 38 lbs but needs to be 32 lbs Height: 16 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Since you’re reading this, you’re obviously looking for a new best friend! And you’re in luck, because so is Precious! She doesn’t care how old you are, if you’re a single adopter or a family, the only thing that matters to her is that you have an endless supply of belly rubs and milk bones! Oh, and no small dogs. They make her feel uneasy and stressed! Precious’s perfect match is ideally someone with a large breed, calm dog who would allow Precious to play on her own terms. Our sweet girl is 9, therefore when she gets tired, she’s finished with playtime and immediately seeks the comfiest spot in the room. Precious would benefit most from someone who is home the majority of the time but wouldn’t mind being alone for a couple hours throughout the day. Precious does not mind children ages 10 and up as long as they respect her boundaries and remain gentle with her as she’s no longer a resilient little puppy anymore! Shes stable, mature and sensitive in all the best ways. Precious would love a fenced in yard but would be fine with not having one as long as adopters plan to make sure she gets plenty of exercise to stay healthy. She’s a very adjustable girl if you remain patient with her! What is my personality like? This sweet, laid-back girl adores anyone that has two hands to love on her with. Precious can be a little shy at first, but if you have treats or attention to offer, she will quickly accept you as her new cuddle buddy and best friend. She enjoys the slow life and is in no rush to get to where she’s going! She’s laid back and patient but loves to play and romp on her own terms! Precious has great manners and listens to her caregivers very well with no issues. When she’s not admiring your every move, she likes to sit in the comfort of your AC .. we mean, your company! She enjoys the outdoors in increments and does routine exploring when she goes out to potty, but it doesn’t take her long and she’s ready to come back inside and see what’s going on! Her favorite things in life are the simple things … sleeping in, treats at breakfast, comfy beds, belly rubs and the list goes on! Shes an extremely easy going, independent girl when she is comfortable. Although Precious can be very playful at times, keep in mind that she is 9 years old. She loves when you respect her boundaries and allow her to be independent. For instance, she does NOT like to be picked up and will let out a squeal if you try to do so. Precious is extremely well rounded and behaved nonetheless. She is a sweet & affectionate girl who would love nothing more than to join your family and spend the rest of her days being appreciated for the dog that she is. How do I act when I first meet new people? There is no doubt that Precious adores humans and the love they have to give, but she is just a little shy upon meeting new people as many dogs are. As long as you have treats, patience and lots of affection to give, she will open up just fine when she realizes she’s comfortable and safe with you. When precious is uncomfortable however, or a stranger walks into her living area she does tend to bark, but we believe it’s just to let everyone know someone is approaching! As long as you’re willing to let her approach you first and not push her, she opens up fairly quick!   Other tips and tidbits: Our vet estimates Precious' birthday to be 2/16/2016. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. She is also on gabapentin but gabapentin at her dose must be purchased from your vet.  She also has a heart murmur (1/6) that does not require any meds.  She is currently on cytopoint which runs roughly $100 per month. We think that with a dedicated owner who will keep her on specific diet and give her regular baths, that this can be discontinued. She was not on it before she came to us.   Weight: 20 lb but needs to gain up to about 22 lbs Height: 14 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Ginger is a middle-aged girl who's looking to spend the best years of her life in a home, not in a kennel.  She would love to go with her BFF Precious. They have always lived together. Both Ginger and Precious are taking a while to adjust to living here at CPR. They are used to living in a house and being pampered and loved on constantly. They are looking for a forever family that can once again, provide them with that life that they are so accustomed to. They need a calm home with owners that will be home most, if not all, of the day. They will do well in either an apartment or house. What is my personality like? Ginger and Precious have warmed up considerably since first coming to us but both are still apprehensive about their surroundings. Their personalities will shine once they are safely lodged in their new forever home. Ginger is the more confident of the two and Precious takes her cues from Ginger. Neither girl will rush to meet you or jump on you. They both love affection being shown to them. How do I act when I first meet new people? Ginger is wary but loves pets and any attention paid to her as it's what she had come to expect from her former home. Sit down on the floor, give her a minute or five, and let come to you. That is the best way to approach Ginger. When you do you will see her come in for pets. Then she will climb into your lap for ear rubs and more pets. She may even provide a few wet kisses if you are lucky. When you stop petting Ginger she'll shoot you a side eye or a fallen glare as if to say, "I have not given you permission to stop petting me." It took 3 tries taking her to the vet to be able to sedate her for spay surgery.  When I (her foster mom) went with her and held her while anesthesia was administered, she was fine.  Under sedation, Mandy's heart returned to normal. Her vet notated in the records... Mandy has first degree heart block on presentation. Under sedation anesthesia no heart block was observed, and she had had a regular rhythm throughout the surgery. Recovery was normal other than excessive drooling which responded to Atropine. Weight: 27.5 lbs Height: 17 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes - finally Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Mandy is looking for the home that understands that dogs go where you go. Dogs do what you do, and dogs stay with you always.  Being away from her chosen human is agony to Mandy.  Can you take your dog to work - Mandy would love that for she is gregarious and outgoing to all her people.  Are you a work from home type - Mandy is good with that.  She likes a dog bed right under your desk please.  Are you retired and love to garden and go for walks - Mandy says "where is my leash."   Mandy's ideal home will be one where she can be with her human at all times.  She would be a fantastic emotional support dog for you will become her emotional support human.   Did we mention she MUST sleep in the bed with you! That is important time, and she cherishes it. Mandy can split her love with another person but will most likely pick a favorite if there are two of you. We do not know how she would do with children and recommend her as happiest in a single person home, as long as that person IS home or can take Mandy wherever you need to go. Mandy has never been around cats. We don't think she would care. She also can co-exist peacefully with dogs, but she could and would be peaceful and serene as an only dog.  She does not need or play with other dogs and if one irritates her or gets too close to her human, she makes it known that she would prefer not to share with snaps and growls.  She does not do this with every dog, just the obnoxious little terrier types.   What is my personality like? Loving, open and trusting. Mandy thinks people are cool and should be gotten to know. All of you. We do not think she has met a person yet she did not like.  Mandy is in foster care with our Director. She is often in attendance at staff meetings and moves from lap to lap, saying hi to all her friends.   Mandy loves to ride in a car and is very good in a car - unless you leave her in the car alone. Then she will stress poop.  It stinks. We don't recommend you try it. Just go places you can have your dog with you. If she can't go in, let her stay home.   Speaking of poop, Mandy is not yet reliably house trained. She is getting better and better but will still need reminders.  She does not like crates, can climb or leap over any baby gate and when foster mom got an ex-tall gate for the hallway leading upstairs, she figured out if she works away at the bottom long enough, she can pull it off the wall and squeeze through.  She is not doing this to get out - oh no. She is doing it to get to you, her human, who is suddenly on the wrong side of the baby gate.  She also likes to help foster mom do yoga. Downward dog she is still working on.   Mandy dislikes grooming.  You, her owner, have to go with her.  She does not have to be groomed much but she needs to learn to tolerate this better. Her hair grows very slowly so she does not need that much grooming, but she does need regular baths and brushing.  It was not part of her life before. She needs to be gentled into liking it with treats and gentle hands.  It will happen, it just needs time.   Mandy is master of the off-leash walk. She can time her steps to yours and always get out the door before you do. She heels beautifully, stepping in time with her human. Mandy's Foster Mom says - I am going to miss her, but my heart belongs to poodles. Mandy knows this and is trying hard to change my mind but it's not going to happen. I have a fondness for her that is deep, and I am going to ask her new home to stay in touch with us, but I know in my heart that a much lower traffic (dog traffic that is) is better for her.   How do I act when I first meet new people? Mandy loves people Other tips and tidbits: 1/1/2022 is Mandy's actual birthdate. Mandy came to us in April after a breeder near us voluntarily shut down to avoid their dogs being seized. They loved dogs but health issues for both of them led to some challenges in caring for the many that they had.  Animal Control made some gentle but insistent suggestions on what needed to be done and they followed the suggestion. Mandy was one of those.  She stayed with us, had her babies and raised them well, and then we went on the journey to figure out her heart condition that manifests only while she is at the vet.  If you're afraid of doctors, you and Mandy have that in common.   House trained?
