Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Located in Troy, MO Sinead is a quiet and shy lady that we are still learning about. She likely has not had much human interaction so she is watching and learning. She seems to be independent and hasn't engaged much with the foster dogs. That doesn't mean she isn't learning or the dogs are not helping. In fact, mill dogs learn a lot just from watching other dogs. They learn to trust people, to play, to potty outside, and different sounds and surfaces do not need to be feared. As a mill dog, she likely spent all of her time since birth in one small area. She didn't know what it was like to be cuddled, she didn't play with toys, have a soft bed, be brushed, groomed, touch the grass, hear the ice maker or any of the other things we take for granted. So, as you can understand, this little flower has yet to bloom. We do believe she will benefit from someone who has puppy mill experience or a confident dog in the home. Sinead's adoption is $500. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and microchipped. Next steps can be found at leiashope.org. PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!

Story
Jesko Cocker Spaniel Male - 21lbs about 3yo Neutered/ Microchipped UTD on all vaccinations Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website. Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. Jesko is being fostered in Maryville, IL area. You must live within 350 miles & able to drive for a meet & greet/adoption. We got a call from a rescue intake group who wanted to make sure he was safe, but didn't have a foster family available in their program. Fortunately, we did! We sent out a volunteer & brought him into our care. Jesko is now UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and on heartworm/flea preventative. He is on the path to getting healthy & growing his coat in; ready to find his furever family. Jesko is doing very well with leash training, we are not requiring a fence for his adoption. But he MUST be kept secure on a leash AT ALL TIMES if he is not inside a secure fence. Like the majority of all Spaniels, he does NOT have good recall & is easily distracted by blowing leaves, squirrels, & birds. If you have a fence, it needs to be completely secure & enclosed, no gaps. Jesko has had tons of fun in his foster home. He plays with the resident dogs, and his absolute favorite thing is to play ball! Jesko is very friendly & loves to make friends with everyone. He loves being in the middle of all the action, that means sometimes he is putting his paws up on things he probably shouldn't- like furniture, or cabinets, or people (kids) who may be unstable on their feet. He does respond to 'off'. He would benefit from a beginner training course. This would help with his manners & for his own safety. We really didn't have to do much work on potty training. We have been amazed at how well Jesko caught on to routine & he has not had any accidents since moving into his foster home. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please be prepared to set him up for success by getting a schedule in place. Always praise your dog when they meet your expectations. Bringing home a new dog is a huge responsibility that requires plenty of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a sweet energetic buddy. Jesko will be a fabulous friend!
