Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website.
Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. Jesko is being fostered in Maryville, IL area. You must live within 350 miles & able to drive for a meet & greet/adoption.
We got a call from a rescue intake group who wanted to make sure he was safe, but didn't have a foster family available in their program. Fortunately, we did! We sent out a volunteer & brought him into our care. Jesko is now UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and on heartworm/flea preventative. He is on the path to getting healthy & growing his coat in; ready to find his furever family.
Jesko is doing very well with leash training, we are not requiring a fence for his adoption. But he MUST be kept secure on a leash AT ALL TIMES if he is not inside a secure fence. Like the majority of all Spaniels, he does NOT have good recall & is easily distracted by blowing leaves, squirrels, & birds. If you have a fence, it needs to be completely secure & enclosed, no gaps.
Jesko has had tons of fun in his foster home. He plays with the resident dogs, and his absolute favorite thing is to play ball! Jesko is very friendly & loves to make friends with everyone. He loves being in the middle of all the action, that means sometimes he is putting his paws up on things he probably shouldn't- like furniture, or cabinets, or people (kids) who may be unstable on their feet. He does respond to 'off'. He would benefit from a beginner training course. This would help with his manners & for his own safety.
We really didn't have to do much work on potty training. We have been amazed at how well Jesko caught on to routine & he has not had any accidents since moving into his foster home. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please be prepared to set him up for success by getting a schedule in place. Always praise your dog when they meet your expectations.
Bringing home a new dog is a huge responsibility that requires plenty of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a sweet energetic buddy. Jesko will be a fabulous friend!
