Story
Meet Ruby! She is a 2 year old, 12 lb cockapoo with special needs that is ready to find her forever family!
This sweet little thing has a little bit of a special condition that presents a lot like megaesophagus (a condition that doesn't allow food/water to properly move down the esophagus, from mouth to stomach) and needs to be managed like megaesophagus – eating in her chair, upright time after meals, and no liquids. However, her special needs don’t slow her down, and quite simply, all she wants is someone to snuggle with her and let her sleep in their bed.
Ruby is a pretty low key gal and has a routine that works great for her. She takes several daily medications to help manage her condition that will cost in the range of $150-$200 a month. She eats in her Bailey chair and sits upright for 25 minutes after meals, during which time she enjoys chomping on some small ice cubes. Her food consistency is soaked kibble and she has to be hand-fed from over her head, as that position helps the food travel through her esophagus preventing choking. Her condition is very well managed following this feeding routine. Outside of her eating routine, and not being able to have water like other dogs, this girl is your typical dog. She is her foster mom’s little shadow, following her everywhere, looking to catch a little cuddle any chance she gets. She loves making a nest on the couch and taking in the events of the household.
Ruby lives with other dogs and cats and does great with everyone. She really doesn’t need another dog to live a happy and full life. Due to her not being able to have treats, crumbs, snacks, or water, it would be best if she went to a home with children old enough to understand these boundaries. She does great in a kennel, but definitely prefers to be with her human and she is potty trained. With her esophagus issues, Ruby needs to be walked on a harness and nothing around her neck.
Ruby is an absolute doll and deserves to find a family that appreciates her needs as much as we do! If you think you might be a good fit for Ruby, you can send inquiries to our director of adoptions at muttmisfitsadoptions@gmail.com or apply to meet / adopt at www.muttmisfits.org/adoption-application
She is spayed, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, heart-worm negative, and micro-chipped!
