Story
Meet Pixie Chick!
Pixie was surrendered to Chesterfield Square Shelter by her family in the middle of a vestibular episode. As a senior without any adoption interest at a very over-crowded shelter, Pixie Chick was scheduled to be euthanized, but happily, on May 28th, Pixie Chick instead became a Frosted Face, and her safety and well-being will never be at risk again.
This sweet beauty is 14 years old and weighs 37 lbs. She has arthritis that causes stiffness, but when she gets moving, she doesn't want to stop! Pixie Chick loves being outdoors and going on our week FFF hikes, alternating between walking slowly and when she needs a rest, riding in a stroller. She is a friendly and good-natured girl who is great with kids, cats, and dogs! She is quiet, and you can scoop her up like a baby!
Pixie Chick's sweet and mellow personality makes her a natural choice to represent FFF at a community events with volunteers and other Frosted Faces. She is a gracious social butterfly, happily meeting people and stopping at every outstretched hand for petting.
Pixie Chick's latest adventure is a trip to the pumpkin patch! She really enjoys being outside, smelling the fresh air and the sunshine on her face. One of Pixie's special gifts is to remind us about the simple things in life we often take for granted. She was so happy to simply be able to take in some new sights, scents, and sounds from the comfort of a wagon.
Pixie is a gentle soul. She doesn't need much, just a comfy bed to relax on for most of the day. You won't need an expansive yard or tall fence for this lady. Maybe a small patch of grass to do her business and enjoy the outdoors. She doesn't walk far due to arthritis so a daily stroll isn't necessary to keep her happy.
Pixie does sometimes need help getting up or changing position. Thankfully, she's very agreeable to being picked up. She's easy to put into the car and rides along with no complaints.
Pixie seems most content just resting with a person nearby. Napping on a blanket next to her is very relaxing. Overall, she's a sweet and easy dog for someone with a big heart willing to give her a loving home simply because she deserves it. Could that be you?
Pixie Chick is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling, and we know she is going to enjoy the extra TLC and cozy comforts of being in a home again. Her Fling Mom shares:
"Pixie is getting comfortable and eating really well. She has started to take her place in the kitchen when it's snack time to await her turn, when just two weeks ago, she was falling all over the place struggling to get up! Now we are doing short stints outside without her wagon, and she likes to roam around around our 1800 sq. ft. condo!
We created a "safe area which is gated off in our bedroom where she can eat her snacks and treats without fear of another dog taking it and just generally rest if she wants. She has a elevated water bowl and dry food available to her, and the other dogs are not allowed there. Throughout the day, she will make her way there when she wants, and we can close the gate This area is near our other Frosted Faces foster Kalamazoo's spot, and at night, Pixie has come to prefer to sleep right next to him instead!
We recently discovered Pixie's love of corn dogs. It's become the easiest thing ever to get her meds and some supplements in her since discovering she loves those things.
Pixie has a lot of nicknames around our house. "Pixie girl "the pixilator, "the pixter, "Dixie pixie, "the pix, "girly girl, "the queen, and our favorite "little brown bear. We find her to be quite the girl, and we only wish we knew her earlier. More to come!"
