Story
I am currently at Stafford Creek Corrections Center as part of the FREEDOM TAILS Board & Train Program from August 8 - October 31. This popular program pairs a duo of incarcerated individuals up with a PAWS of Grays Harbor pooch for 12 weeks. Each dog has a primary and secondary handler assigned to the same cell, giving the dog 24-hour care and attention to meet its needs. During their stay at SCCC, these dogs receive specialized training to prepare them for adoption to the public. At the end of their 12-week stay, they enjoy a special adoption ceremony with their new families to show off their skills as they start a new journey. Loves to cuddleHello there, I'm Dalwood! You know, I wasn't always a shelter pup. One day, I was minding my own business, sniffing out a good read in the library (I'm a bit of a bookworm), when a librarian shushed me. Can you believe it? A dog getting shushed in a library! Next thing I knew, I was here, making friends and avoiding the TV room (too much noise, not enough tail wagging). I'm a sweet, friendly, and energetic goofball. I love a good cuddle and I'm smart too. Kids are my favorite playmates - their energy matches mine! So, if you're looking for a fun-loving, cuddly smarty-pants who can keep up with the kiddos and bring you endless laughs, I'm your guy. Just promise to keep the TV off, okay?8/25/24Hello lovely humans! It’s me Dalwood. I wanted to reach out to all of you beautiful people and let you know I have been working really hard to better myself in many different ways. I am hoping that whatever lovely family loves me enough to adopt me will love me knowing that my manners will improve here at Freedom Tails. Right now I do bark at things I want to check out, but I am trying to learn how to control that, in order to make our life better and easier. I enjoy having my back and butt scratched not too rough though. I am not a big dog even though I act like one. I love to love and be loved. So, come love me now and I swear I will love you back and more! Dalwood 9/9/24What’s up, humans? My name is Dalwood. I’m looking for someone that doesn’t mind a dog that barks at new dogs, when I get excited, and just when I want to say hi. Things I like to do are sitting in someone’s lap to look at the world higher up, to get rubs, and to get scratched all over. Getting my butt scratch is the best thing in the world. If anyone out there is a butt scratcher, I am your dog and I need a home. Hopefully my new person has another furry friend for me and lots of treats. Well I gotta go I hear a dog barking. I’ll talk to you guys soon!! Dalwood 9/19/24Dalwood is a sweet sweet little dog that loves to play with other dogs and people. Dalwood loves his toys that he loves to play tug with the toys that make noise/squeak. He’s a big, big fan of running and chasing other dogs. He is a very smart dog and loves to work for treats. Dalwood has dogs he loves and dogs he does not really care for. He will run around for hours with the dogs he loves. One of my favorite things about Dalwood is the fact that he loves to cuddle with me during the day!Dalwood 10/3/24Hi to all my two legged friends, Dalwood Checking in! I’ve been working hard on my cues and can’t wait to show you. I now know how sit, down, stand, wait, come, by me, with me, create/kennel, place, stay, leave it, drop it, take it, up, off, back, go see and find it!!! I’ve been doing a lot of work on my barking, too! I am not perfect but I’ve made some progress. Also, I want to say “HELLO!” to my future pet parent! I’m really looking forward to being a part of your life and have you being a part of mine!!Please apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org
