Story
***The first step in the adoption process is to submit an application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org***   Wilson, Wilson, Wilson!!!  Say it in an excited high pitched voice and you will get an excited response and a really happy tail from this cute low-rider doggie.  So let's start with the things that might make Wilson a challenge for some people.... Wilson is blind!  He has a condition call microphthalmia in which his eye openings never developed properly.  Some cats and dogs with this condition do have limited sight however Wilson's actual eyes never developed so he can't see anything.  He is hearing impaired!  Yep....not only is he blind but he can't hear great either.  This is also a result of his microphthalmia.  We have found that he can sometimes pick up a high pitched sound so the director's obnoxious squeaky doggie speak voice comes in handy when communicating with Wilson!  Wilson is also terrible on a leash so a fenced yard will be necessary if considering bringing this guy home.  His house training has proven to be challenging as well.  We feel more consistency in his life should be beneficial with this issue.  Ok so another is that Wilson has shown when he was in foster, that he was not ok being confined and that he gets a little panicked when left alone.  Interestingly however when he is at the shelter he has no issue being alone in his kennel run so we are not certain what to make of this behavior.  With that said, he would thrive in a home where the humans are around a lot!  Someone working from home or perhaps a retired person that can be there for Wilson to feel calm. And although Wilson seems to really want to play with another dog or cat he does startle easily and become reactive which is understandable due to a lack of perception and senses however that means he would do best maybe in a home as an only pet or perhaps with cats that are dog savvy and will just keep their distance from Wilson. Additionally, little kids that might bump Wilson and startle him aren't a good idea either.  Okay, okay we realize that's kind of a long list of potential challenges for placing this cutie but let's share with you Wilson's greatest strength....he is a HAPPY HAPPY little guy with so much love to share with his humans!  After he meets someone and feels safe with them (we have found he identifies people he knows by their scent!) he has kisses to share!  He jumps, twirls and dances around with absolute glee!!!!!  He is a super great snuggler and would make a fantastic couch potato buddy.  Wilson is young at likely 4 years of age. He is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped his adoption fee is $250.00  Soooooo.......if you think you are the right home for Wilson and you've already got a plan working out in your mind how you might help Wilson through some of his challenges then head over to our website at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org to fill out the adoption application. November 4, 2024, 8:52 pm

Story
***The first step in the adoption process is to go to www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org to complete the adoption application*** This sweet little girl is Raya. Raya started life on the Rez. She had a litter of puppies and a run in with a porcupine that left her needing help. Here is what she has to say.... Hi my name is Raya (Ray-uh)! The humans tell me I’m ready to find my furever home! I would love to find a home with a dog friend. I like to rough house and zoom around with toys. I do have a strong prey drive so I can’t live with cats or other small animals. I also love to snuggle the humans and take naps. I get to sleep in bed some nights and I love that but I also sleep in my kennel some nights and don’t mind! I need to find a home that understands dogs with separation anxiety or at least a home willing to learn how to work with that. I would love to have a dog friend that can kennel beside me so I know I can relax. I prefer my plastic kennel over the wire ones. Once I got settled in to my foster home for a few days I relaxed in my kennel and like to chew on my bones when I don’t feel like sleeping. If I could find a home where the humans are around a lot that might also make me more comfortable! If you have a job working from home I won’t complain. I’m kennel trained and house trained, though we were told in a previous home that I did break out of a wire kennel. We were also told that I’d get out of the house and run away. My fosters don’t have trouble with me getting out of the fence or the house but it’s something to know about me. I promise to bring entertainment and love to my furever home. I’m around 3 years old and around 45 lbs so I’m a great size for many people. I have not been kid tested but I can be if my home may have kids! Raya loves deeply and would love to find a home that loves her back just the same. She is guaranteed to add some laughter and love to the right home! Raya is about two and a half and adoption fee is $250.00 She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and micro-chipped November 4, 2024, 8:52 pm

Story
*** The first step in the adoption process is to complete the adoption application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** Calling chihuahua lovers!  Meet Pedro!  This little man came from a chihuahua hoarding situation along with his foster friend Cat (the Dog).  Pedro is doin his best learning about other people and life with out so much chaos.  He is, in true chihuahua fashion, a bit over zealous when meeting new people.  He wants them to know he is actually 90 pounds of pure muscles instead of about 10.  We got your little guy no worries and thanks for letting us know there is a visitor at the door.  Pedro is pretty calm with the members of the household and gets along fine with the other dogs.  He may even do best with a doggie friend.  He is curious about the foster kitties but that's about it.   His favorite things to do are run around outside in the fenced yard and then snuggle under blankets.  If he gets overstimulated while playing he will nip a little when he's excited so older kids that will understand when to stop a play session would be best. But hey, if you are a lover of the Chihuahua none of this is new to you!   Pedro is approximately 7 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  His adoption fee if $250.00November 14, 2024, 5:21 pm
