We purchased Otis at the beginning of the COVID shutdown. He was a great companion to me during my heart failure. He stays outdoors, but is great indoors so long as he is supervised. After my heart transplant, we began breeding miniature long haired dachshunds, and Otis is finding it difficult to no longer be the sole pet! He would be happier in an environment where he did not have to share his position with other dogs.

Story
Our dog is an incredibly sweet and affectionate companion who adores cuddling and being close to her person. She has a strong protective instinct, which has made it challenging for us, as she becomes overly defensive when our son tries to approach us, or vice versa. Because of this, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to rehome her, as her loyalty and protective nature are better suited to a single person or elderly individual who can be her primary focus. She has a beautiful balance of energy, enjoying her time outside but also content to spend hours perched at the top of the couch, quietly watching over her surroundings. While she does bark when someone comes to the door, it’s clear she just wants to feel safe and know that someone is there to look out for her, too. We deeply wish for her to find a loving home where she can feel secure and continue to be the devoted, protective companion she is.

Kya is extremely loving. Outside of her reactivity, she really is a sweet pup. She is perfectly content to lay on the couch with you while read or watch TV. She loves playing tug and playing with squeaky toys. Her favorite activity is sniffing. Kya is on medication for her anxiety and reactivity, and needs to maintain that,  nevertheless, we are looking for a calm, consistent environment for her.  Low to no traffic in the home, no kids, no other pets.  She is very reactive to other dogs - so maybe a nice fenced yard to play in - or a walking area with no other dog walkers or kids.  She does bite when she feels threatened.  Not uncommon for small dogs but we want a home that limits her feeling threatened.  We are looking for someone who has experience with little reactive dogs.   She is seeing a vet behaviorist and it helps her greatly.  Combined with a more calm environment, she should thrive.  Her owner will discuss all of that and give you the vet's contact.  Ideally this training would be continued. Kya is crate trained and loves her crate.  She is housetrained and has only had one accident when she was ill.  She knows several commands, Sit, Come, Leave it.  She resource guards but can be redirected with a treat and the command Leave it.   Age: 3 years  Weight: 25 lbs  Temperament: Best with a calm adult, no pets, no kids Vetting: Spayed, up to date on vaccines,  heartworm  negative  Training: House trained, crate trained, knows several commands. This lively and loving senior pup sleeps through the night and is perfectly comfortable staying in his crate when you leave the house. He won't wake you up early, ensuring you get your beauty sleep. Carey adores cuddling and going for walks. Although he can be a bit rambunctious on the leash sometimes, his curious nature and funny little prance will make you smile. Carey is house and crate trained with no accidents or marking-he's very low maintenance and full of love. He doesn't bark much, and his foster says he loves being outdoors and soaking in the sights and sounds. He may need to be an only dog since he tends to be protective when on his human's lap. While he gets along with other dogs outside, he prefers having his own space when indoors.
