Story
Chip Dip is a 3 yr old neutered male Xoloitzcuintle/Chihuahua.  He weighs 4#.  In his 3 years he has already lived in 2 homes (plus 2 foster homes).  We are looking for a home that is committed to providing a lifetime of love & care.  Chip has a condition called dry eye.  He needs 2 medications daily to help simulate tear production and replace his tear film.  He will need these for the rest of his life; without this false tear production his eyes will become extremely dry and susceptible to ulcers or even worse.  He gets Optixcare Eye Lube Plus (3-4x/day) & Optimmune daily (2x/day) for his dry eye along with Optixcare Eye Cleaner (1-2x/day).  You may want to contact your veterinarian for a quote on prices to ensure Chip's needs are within your budget.  We do not want him to go without his meds; compound meds might be an option but you will want to do research.  He is used to getting drops in his eyes & does well with it.  Hairless dogs do require a little more maintenance than you would think.  Their bodies need protection from dramatic changes in temperature, with the use of clothing in the colder temps, and a pet friendly sunscreen when out in the sun.  Frequent baths with a hypoallergenic shampoo are recommended to help hydrate the skin and remove the debris accumulated from not having a protective coat.  We would love to find him a home that has experience with hairless breeds or a home that has done research. Chip really just wants to nap &/or be with his person.  He has done well with cats and dogs.  While he hasn't been overly playful with other dogs he seems to co-exist well with other calm dogs.  Chip is still working on house training and will need continued training to help him with this.  He does really well with peeing on potty pads.  He will go outside if it's a nice day out.  Chip would do best being with someone that can make sure he goes potty every couple of hours to avoid accidents.  He will need a fenced in yard &/or a small corral for outside potty time. Chip Dip is fully vetted until December 2025, microchipped, neutered, & on heartworm prevention and will come with his eye medications to get his new owner started.  Applications for adoption are at www.trackingintheshadows.com.  Please live within 1 hour of Elkhart, IN.  Please be ready to take him home in 1-3 days after application approval. *We do not accept electric/underground fences. All dogs & cats in the home must be spayed/neutered & up to date on core vaccines & preventatives in order for your application to be approved.* ##1852139##

Story
SPECIAL NEEDS...SEIZURES Beans is looking for a specialhome Beans was found as a stray and never claimed. This little guy is 2 years old and weighs 7#. He is a little Chi mix with some spice thrown in.. Although he is small he is mighty. While Beans can be a little sass butt he knows how to turn on the charm and be sweet and snuggly. While I've been fostering Beans he has had a few seizures. Mostly they have been when he is worked up. Being little and bossy can add up to  butting heads with dogs that are also bossy. He then suffered a seizure. Due to the length and frequency of his seizures it was determined that he needed medication to help prevent further seizure activity. Beans has responded well to his prescription of Phenobarbital. This drug is commonly prescribed for dogs with seizures. We have had one break through seizure that was short lasting and mild compared to previous ones. The cost of his medication was $34 for 1 month supply at my pharmacy. I'm sure if you search around you might find it cheaper else where. Beans will also need to have bloodwork every 6 months to monitor his levels and kidney and liver values. The cost will vary by clinics. Many dogs with seizures can live a long happy life.  While we have covered his medical needs I feel it's important to remember that Beans is a happy, funny little guy. He does well with dogs that don't mind him being the boss. He needs a secure fenced yard and children 10 or older in the home. He is crate trained and continues to work on his housetraining skills. Currently he wears a bellyband when he is free roaming the house and doesn't mind it one bit. Does great with cats. Really he just wants to be with his people living his best life.
