Story
PATCHES was spayed 11/28/18 at Servicios Medicos Veterinarios, Sonora, Dr. Martin Figueroa DVM.PATCHES has been diagnosed with `Masticatory Muscle Myositis` (also called Eosinophilic Myositis), an autoimmune disorder that causes the muscles in her jaw to freeze up. She currently can open her mouth only about 3/8 inch wide, and is getting a diet of special soft food. This is not surgically treatable. This condition requires long term medical care, and probably cannot be cured. Patches is now on prednisone and antibiotics. UPDATE: ` PATCHES` myositis is currently stable, she is not on medication at this time. She has been on numerous protocols of steroids and antibiotics without significant improvement. If the myositis continues to be stable, she may have a normal life span. If her condition deteriorates she will require additional medical care, including medications, and that could impact her longevity. There is no further cure or surgical procedure available at this time. She has been seen by 4 vet clinics, including the most qualified specialists in Arizona.PATCHES is available for adoption as a Special Needs dog, shown by appointment only to avoid stress of adoption site. (Adoption application in advance required).

Story
Updated Foster Notes: As far as Louis goes - he is not really a small dog. He`s about 30 lbs or more, he`s solid. He`s still somewhat skittish even after the about 2 years that we have had him, but is much better than when we first got him. He`s used to going outside throughout the day through our doggie doors. He sleeps in his own bed, because anything moving under blankets scare him. We don`t do crates.I think that with a person who would dedicate their time to just him, he would be amazing. He is a dog that loves dogs, but people terrify him. He actually socializes our new pups, as he loves to play with other dogs. He doesn`t like children, he will charge, bark and nip at children when they give him their backs. With men he just keeps away from them. He`s beautiful, he is gentle when you hand feed him treats, but he has issues. He needs someone with time, patience and dedicate themselves to him, the person who adopts him shouldn`t have any time restrictions for him to come around. Maybe with just one person and no other dogs around he will come around a little faster. But they will be able to take him to dog parks and know that he will love that interaction.

Santa came early to SAFE Animals! OZZY, who has been patiently waiting in foster care for over a year, is hoping to find his forever home this holiday season. For the month of December, his adoption fee is reduced to just $100. Let’s make his holiday wish come true!OZZY is a high energy, sweet dog. He is affectionate with his foster parents and gets along with other dogs in the foster home, although he may be selective with the dogs he chooses to play with. He is active and uses the doggy door to go in and out and likes to snuggle under the sheets when ready to rest. Since he is part Chinese Crested it would be best if a potential adopter is familiar with the special needs of a hairless breed. **Ozzy can be selective with people as well and would do best in a home without children under 12yrs.**

$150.00 adoption fee for the month of December! Honey has been in foster care for over two years! Lets help her find her forever home!Sweet little Honey has come such a long way! She didn’t have the easiest start in life—she came from a home where she wasn’t socialized and had to share scraps of food with other dogs. With no shelter or bedding, she learned to be pretty independent. Even her former owners couldn’t catch her when she came to us!Now, Honey is thriving and full of playful energy. She loves to bounce around, but when bedtime comes, she’s a total snuggle bug! Honey likes to be right next to her person, belly up and completely adorable. She can get a little possessive of her bedtime spot with other pups, but she’s just a girl who knows what she loves—a cozy cuddle and all your heart!

Foster Update: He’s still a bit skittish and making slow progress, but deep down, he wants love. He enjoys pets and shows interest in play—he’s just not sure how to do it with people yet. He gently takes food from your hand and is great with other dogs, but he’s still learning to trust humans. He needs someone patient, with plenty of time to dedicate just to him, to show him that life can be full of love and attention. He’s young, energetic, and has so much potential. To the person who earns his trust, you’ll mean the world to him!

These pups are in Tucson, Arizona too!

Story
Hi, I’m Emma. I had a rough start in life, but I’m doing great now. I’m always in a good mood, unless I’m chasing the birds in my back yard--then, I’m pretty fierce. I love to play retrieving my toys but also love to watch TV with my foster parent. I love everyone--dogs and humans. It doesn’t matter if you’re short or tall, I’m not intimidated at all. I was very skinny when I got here and still am on the slim side (10 lbs.), but I do like my food and like to graze a little all day. I’ve learned the doggy door and fly out of it 100 times a day going after whatever I think is out there. My voice is a little high-pitched because I am almost deaf and can be a bit “barky”. The vet said that he thinks I have a lot of birth defects that affect my balance and make my back end a little weak. Because my teeth are out of line and some are missing, my tongue sticks out. I haven’t been around kids at all so I don’t know how good I’ll be with them, but I’d say that young children would not be good for me.

I`m a wonderful companion who thrives on attention, enjoys walks, and absolutely loves car rides. I`m also perfectly content to relax on the couch and keep you company. My ideal home is one where I am showered with love, attention, treats, and regular walks. I should mention that I can be a bit possessive and jealous when I`m getting attention—it’s just part of my personality—but I’m not looking for conflict, just a little extra reassurance. For those curious, I weigh between 16-18 pounds, making me the perfect size for cuddles and companionship!

FOSTER NOTES: Meet PACO, A true Legend in his own mind. Paco can do it all, He is the perfect comfort dog & is highly skilled in teaching the art of belly rubs and snuggles. He has the cutest shovel jaw/under bite and is committed to being your loyal shadow where ever you may go. Who needs a doorbell when you have Paco guaranteed to alert you two seconds b4 the doorbell rings. He will keep your seat warm while you go to the potty OR he can be your potty patrol support tech AND Paco will keep watch while you enjoy your meal in order to make sure you eat every bite...treats appreciated. Very sweet little boy, He needs someone who is home all day, a retired couple with another playful buddy would be perfect for this little sweetheart. notation his left eye is underdeveloped (a congenital birth defect) Foster says, `that he cannot see out of his eye`. He requires drops 3 times per day. MEDICAL NOTE: PACO has been diagnosed with congenital irritable esophagus; excessive barking may cause chronic coughing. Paco may need occasional ongoing Veterinary care and possibly medication when irritation occurs. Will need health waiver at adoption. Foster never leaves him alone and takes with her whenever she goes out.
