Story
This is Peanut. Peanut is a neutered male Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, he weighs approximately 10 pounds, up to date with his shots and he is about a year old. He is about 50% house trained. He knows to go potty outside, he's just not sure how to ask to go outside yet, so he will need a little patience and training. Peanut had a family who had an autistic son. As the son got older, it wasn't working out to have a dog. So, peanut was dropped off at the shelter. Peanut is a very affectionate little guy. He loves to be around people getting pets and love. Peanut does well with other dogs and he loves to play. He's not crazy about pit bull breeds, but he does great with all other breeds. I don't think Peanut has ever been around cats, but I think he would do well with them. Peanut would also do well as an only dog. As far as children, he would do best around older kids (8 years & older)Peanut loves long walks, hiking and he just learned how to swim this week! He LOVES swimming now. He loves to eat, he is very food motivated which makes it easy to train him. If you think Peanut would be a good fit for you, fill out the application form on Fancy Cat's Website and we will contact you for a meet and greet. Peanut can't wait to meet you.  __________________________________________________ This dog's adoption fee is $525. Story
Meet Callie! This little cutie has been in our care most of her life. She was born with excess fluid or “water on the brain” that caused blindness and was given to a family who was not equipped to care for her. They grew frustrated with her and didn't understand her behaviors or take her to the vet for further diagnosis. Callie was more subdued than most puppies and showed some early neurological signs, like circling, and had significantly limited vision, consistent with a condition called hydrocephalus. We took her to a neurologist and she was started on a medication that helps control symptoms of the condition and it has worked incredibly well. The mild neurological signs have abated and she's had no seizures on the meds and lives a mostly normal life. We can’t change the fact that she’s blind, but otherwise, she is symptom-free. Dogs with mild or moderate cases like Callie can live a healthy, happy full life. Callie has matured to be a self-sufficient, confident, loving pup, and while she can’t see, that’s all she’s ever known so she rolls with it.  Callie has adapted quickly to home life. She’s a smart, sweet dog who makes a wonderful companion She’s being fostered by Leah and Chris and has been living with their pack of 3 pups, both large and small. Callie has been good with every pup we’ve introduced her to and finds comfort in her dog business.  Our preference is for her to have a dog buddy in her new home, and she'll do best in a calmer neighborhood with each access in and out of the home. She can do small steps in and out of the home and is most comfortable with a yard or consistent potty area to explore. The only time we've seen her be hesitant is outside in loud or busy areas...so she's not an ideal city dog.  We checked in with her foster mom, Leah, for a quick update.  “Callie is very confident once she gets her bearings straight. She learned the layout of our home pretty quickly. She will explore to learn where everything is - especially the kitchen! The only times I've seen her be hesitant is when she is outdoors in a new spot for the first time - all of the smells and noises can be a little intimidating. As with most blind dogs, her other senses are very strong.  She can smell peanut butter in another room! She integrated into our home very quickly. She found the toys - she likes tuggy ones, Nylabones, and the stuffed toys that make the crinkle sounds - but her absolute favorite toys were my slippers. They had little pouf balls on them and she enjoyed ripping the balls off (which was totally okay they were cheapies off Amazon). She may have a foot fetish... hehe. She tries to play with my dogs but mine are Mean Golden Girls so not much luck there..She’s a very playful, fun dog and would have loved a canine playmate in her new home.  She’s also very snuggly and likes to cuddle on the couch with you and gives lots of kisses. We taught her to "walk" on a leash outside the home, but she needs treats to make her move along. She loves to explore the backyard which is familiar terrain. She’s really good about peeing outside and now she’s pooping outside too. She learned to go up steps quickly and we have trained to use our 4 front steps into the house and then the doggie steps to the couch. I think she can see some shadows. Honestly, you sometimes forget she's blind because she doesn't act all that impaired. She is a really happy-go-lucky dog with lots of energy and love to give. We need someone special to take this sweet little nugget. She's one smart cookie" Apply today to learn more! Story
Meet Pixie. This little nugget was tossed out of a car while still in her crate and left by the side of a highway in Chester, SC. She was emaciated and had a large abrasion that appeared to be road rash. Thankfully, someone saw her and contacted Animal Control. Knowing she would need more care than the shelter could provide, a volunteer contacted Worthy Dog for help. Pixie has been in her foster home for the past 3 weeks, living with a mom and 3 other Chi’s. She’s done great with all the dogs in her foster home and is quickly picking up on potty and leash training. We checked in with her foster mom, Carrie, for an update: “Pixie is doing great! She has opened up so much, and in typical Chihuahua fashion, is 95% sugar and 5% spice :joy: Likes: soft toys, cuddles, any and all food, white noise when she sleeps, fur-friends her size, pajamas (surprisingly), rolling around on the couch, hanging out on foster mom’s lap while working, more cuddles  Dislikes: outfit changes, cold weather, anyone she can see outside from the window.” Is she crate-trained? “Yes. I’ve been using a puppy pen for her because she does well with it, but I’ll start using my large crate so that she gets comfortable. She does hang out in her pen very quietly and will just lay down and entertain herself. She also has been sleeping in her pen at night without any crying.” Housetrained? “She is doing great with housetraining! I would say she’s about 75% there. I’ve noticed she will hold it rather than using her puppy pads most of the time, and if she does have an accident, it’s usually a poop. She has picked up potty training incredibly well.” Energy level? “I would say low to moderate energy level. She spends a lot of time cuddling but is good about being independent when I need her to be. She likes to play from time to time but not entirely in a high-energy kind of way. She does have a tendency to want to chew on fingers, so I’m working on redirecting that. It’s pretty harmless, but still something I prefer to train out. She is also a vocal player, so her family will need to learn the difference between her growling and play biting because she’s feeling playful, and growling and snapping because she’s unhappy about something.” Social skills with other dogs? “She has done really well with my three dogs, who are all around her size. She’s had a couple of arguments with my 2 sassier pups but backed off as soon as I raised my voice. I watched my friend’s 2 dogs this weekend and got to see Pixie interact with them. She was not a fan of either :joy:. One was a bigger dog but relatively calm, and the other was a Yorkie puppy. I think she was intimidated by the size of the bigger dog (~60 lbs) and annoyed at the puppy's energy. I think she fits best in a home with calm small dogs or as an only dog.” Leash skills? “She’s gotten braver on leash and is pretty unreactive to her surroundings, so I think she would be fine in an urban environment. She definitely needs more leash practice and likes to wander and go where she wants to go. She’s also not the dog that strangers should walk by and pet. She needs to come to people on her own terms and will nip if she’s scared by a stranger.” Overall personality? “She is 80% cuddly, 20% sassy lol. She definitely gets spunky when she wants to play but is generally really cuddly and accepting of affection. She really is a people pleaser and wants to make her person happy. She can get a little snappy occasionally, but does really well with verbal corrections.” NOTE: Pixie is new in her foster home, so we are still learning about her. She is generally very sweet but has a little bit of Chihuahua spice. She can be nippy when scared or protecting her space and is still learning manners. Her triggers come from overhandling (e.g., putting on clothes) and taking away high-value items if she is focused on them. Because of this, we do not recommend she be in a home with small children. She needs an experienced owner who can understand her triggers and will handle them appropriately. Chi lovers and experience welcomed. Apply today! Story
Meet Charlotte (aka Cookie). Cookie is an adorable and loving pup with a heart full of sweetness. Rescued as a stray, she was taken in by Good Samaritans who reached out to our rescue for help. Now, six weeks into her journey with us, Charlotte is thriving in her foster home, which she shares with a senior dog and two cats. Though she was initially nervous and timid—understandable for a stray—it didn’t take long for her to settle in and feel safe. Initially, she was unsure about the cats, but has since decided they’re not worth the fuss and now simply ignores them. Now that Cookie has fully settled in, her lovable personality has truly blossomed. This sweet girl adores being the center of her people’s attention and has proven herself to be a very well-behaved companion. Cookie has great house manners and is a gentle, mostly quiet pup. While she’s still a bit shy when meeting new people, a little reassurance helps her warm up quickly. With each passing day, her confidence grows as she becomes more comfortable with new experiences and exposures. Cookie has a moderate energy level, striking a perfect balance between playtime and relaxation. She loves exploring the backyard and playing tag with her foster pup sibling, Artie. Chewing on bones is one of her favorite pastimes, and she’s recently discovered the joy of soft toys. While Cookie has pretty good leash-walking skills, she could use a little more practice to perfect them. In this chilly weather, she prefers quick potty breaks before heading back inside—who can blame her? She’s had enough of life outdoors and now cherishes the warmth and comfort of home. Inside the home, Cookie’s favorite activity is sitting on your lap while being pet and getting belly rubs. Overall, she's super sweet and loves to give kisses and snuggles. In bed,, she will always choose to cuddle up against you and burrow under the covers. During the day she is happy to be involved with most things, she will follow room to room, just to watch. It's obvious she is very smart, but she's most interested in being loved. Outside the home, she is skittish around loud noises and is not a huge fan of car rides (pants), but is improving with exposure.  We believe Cookie will thrive in a calm and loving home. She would do wonderfully as an only dog or with a laid-back canine companion who doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight. Cookie is also cat-friendly and would be fine with older, respectful children. What she truly craves is stability and a family to call her own. In return, she promises endless love, affection, and companionship. Cookie will be coming to town on 1/11/25. Apply today to welcome her home.  Better pics coming!!! Noa is starting to explore more. She loves to be outside and sit in the sun. Noa is house and crate trained. She also gets along with other dogs. Noa came to AFH from one of our rescue partners.  They were called by a Sheriff's Department in Florida to assist with a hoarding case involving '50 to 100' Chihuahuas.  When they arrived, there were over 200!  They were all living in a filthy home surrounded by trash and feces. There was no running water or electricity.  Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org December 16, 2024, 7:47 pm

Devi is a victim of a very bad hoarding case involving 200+ dogs.  As a result, she came to us completely unsocialized, but she is making great progress.  She spent the first month strictly inside her crate, but her foster is happy to report that she came out of the crate just before Thanksgiving.  We have been taking things very slow with her and her foster family is now able to pet her. Now they are currently working on picking her up and giving her cuddles which is all new for her. She truly is a sweetheart. This beautiful dog is waiting for someone who has tons of love and patience to help her continue to gain her confidence.Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org December 16, 2024, 7:02 pm

The trailer had no running water or electricity.  Our rescue partner said 'It was, honestly, one of the worst properties I've been on and I have been on some BAD ones.'  Thanks to our wonderful fosters we were able to rescue 8 dogs. Sidney was pregnant when she arrived to AFH. She has since had an emergency c-section on 10/30/24. Only one puppy was viable, but he is doing very well.  Although she was wary of people when she first arrived, she has really come around and has made great strides towards trusting people.  Sidney is housetrained, crate trained and leash trained. Sidney's WISDOM PANEL results:  37% Chihuahua, 3% Toy Fox Terrier, 2% Miniature Pincher, 17% Chow Chow, 4% Siberian Husky, 3% Alaskan Malamute, 2% Kai Ken, 2% Chinese Shar-Pei, 7% Papillon,3% Shih-Tzu, 3% Toy Poodle, 7% German Shepherd Dog, 2% Collie, 4% American Pit Bull Terrier, 3% American Cocker Spaniel, 1% Labrador RetrieverAccuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org December 16, 2024, 8:09 pm
