Sky is a sweet loving little dog. She gets along with most dogs but has a big attitude when she first sees them. She is very active. She can be somewhat vocal.  She's not great with cats, though. We are still getting to know each other and we're teaching Sky some basic commands and we're working on crate training  Sky was surrendered at the shelter when her owner was moving.  Breed:  Chihuahua Gender: Female Approx. DOB 10/1/2022 Weight: currently 10 lbs. PLEASE NOTE:  we only adopt to residents of the DC metro area, which includes DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties in MD, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties in VA. Story
Hi! I'm Pixie. As you can see, Im a real cutie! Im a friendly and easy-going pup who gets along well with other dogs and is doing great with house training. Im also a big fan of my crateit's my cozy spot to relax and unwind. I do well in the car and am happy to go for a ride when its time to head out. And if youve got a lap, Ive definitely never met one I didnt likeI love snuggling up with my humans! Im not much of a barker, and I prefer to quietly enjoy the company of my family. If you're looking for a sweet and affectionate companion, I could be the one for you! The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me. I cannot wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give. Pixie tested positive for heartworm and will need to undergo treatment once they arrive in the DMV, either while in foster or once they are with their adopter. RDR will cover the cost of the heartworm treatment through our vet partner. If the adopter would prefer to complete treatment at their vet, RDR will reimburse up to the treatment cost through our vet partner. During treatment, they need restricted exercise to short leashed walks only, and they need a fairly quiet home where they arent going to be overstimulated too much. Once the treatment is complete and they get the all clear from the vet, they will be able to live a totally normal/unrestricted life like any other dog. Dogs should be retested 9-12 months after treatment is completed and every year afterwards as part of their annual exam. For more information on heartworms click here: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics Please visit our website www.ruraldogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing dog and to see other dogs available for adoption!

Story
Rufus is a sweet, quirky, cuddly dog — but he needs to be an “only-dog.” He lived with my mom and sister, who both unfortunately died recently. Rufus will be 10 years old in March 2025, but he is quite energetic and weighs 14 pounds. He has a highly treatable heart condition. He is crate-trained but is not 100% housebroken, so frequent walks with a couple of pee pads placed around the house are advisable.. He is loving and comical. He can shake on command. He loves taking walks and getting treats. He’s a climber, so all food must be placed well out of his reach. It breaks my heart to part with him, but I know that he will make a happy forever home with another family as an only-dog. 🥹

Story
Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet shy boy seeking fresh start and love! MARCO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Marco and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (12/22/2024) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!     Name:  Marco       Best Guess for Breed:  Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age:  4.5 years as of September 2024        SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  9 lbs   Gets Along With:   Marco does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. We would be cautious placing him in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.       Currently Living at:  Puerto Rico shelter; Marco needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get on a freedom flight up here!   Special adoption considerations:  Because Marco is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Marco in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.Marco is Looking For:   His forever home! This small sweetie is from Puerto Rico, and many dogs from Puerto Rico haven't had a lot of socialization. They can be pretty shy. Marco is such a sweetie who wants nothing more than to trot through life with all the confidence of a well-loved dog. To get there, he needs extra patient and loving adopters whop understand he needs to experience new places and people at his pace. A welcoming resident dog will show him how to dog as well!   Marco is just such a great little pup and will pay back all the love and support he receives by being a loyal, loving companion for all his days. What do you say? Will he be yours? What My Foster Says About Me: Marco is a total gem! He was very scared at first but he is coming out of his shell. He loves dogs (especially other Chihuahuas) and my kids. He sleeps through the night and has the sweetest personality. Marco enjoys exploring the backyard more than going on walks. He is still very shy; the bed and the couch are his safety zones. He needs a home with a patient person and a welcoming dog.Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
