Story
Woof! I'm a senior gentleman looking for my forever home. I may be a bit hard of hearing, but I'm still full of love and waggles! I'm a big softie who loves cuddles and belly rubs. I'm a pro at chilling out and going with the flow. I'm good with just about everyone – humans, cats, dogs, you name it! I'm also a master of the leash and love going for walks. Plus, I'm a total pro at patio dining. I've had a rough start, but I'm ready to trade in my past for a future filled with love and belly rubs. I promise to be the sweetest, most laid-back companion you could ask for. So, what do you say? Ready to give an old boy like me a chance? Here's how to adopt me: Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $125 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets. APPLY HERE: www.richardsonhumanesociety.org ##2197443##

Story
Cain is a 6 1/2 year old 14 pound chihuahua that thrives of attention. He's such a happy little guy especially when he's around children. He has never let the fact he's paralyzed from the waist down affect his demeanor or block his little ray of sunshine! He's also dog & cat  friendly and loves people!   Cain's favorite thing to do is burrow under a blanket as close to your body as he can but he doesnt mind sleeping in his own bed or play pen at night. In the mornings he is ready for some good neck scratches and attention from each child in his Foster Home. Food is the way to Cain's heart. He loves strawberries, apples, and egg with his medicine which he takes twice a day. He never appears to be in any pain and is so full of life and has so much love to give. He loves stroller rides, car rides and even days where he can just lay around with his favorite friend. Cain is learning to use the wheelchair but not yet a fan.  He prefers the lifting harness to be carried.  If you open the door to go outside, he will come flying down the hallway because he LOVES being outside!!!! The best part is how excited he gets, about food and people he loves. He does the "Cain Dance" where his ears go back, he smiles big while hopping around and spinning until you get on the floor and love on him. To meet Cain in person visit us at www.DSDA.org/adopt and submit our online application.   * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325  Dogs (over 12 months) - $275  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.  Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address. Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household. Vet checks are required. All resident animals must be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative (if applicable). Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting. Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet. Applicant is home more than not. ##1603915##

Story
Meet Frances “Frannie,” an amazingly adorable 3 1/2 year-old bundle of love, excitement, and adventure! Frannie is best described as a big dog in a small dog package.  At 24 lbs, she is happy to lie across your lap or be picked up to put in the car, but she holds herself with the stature of larger pups.  She is strong, energetic, and protective of the ones she loves.  She enjoys getting attention and snuggling with her foster parents as well as wrestling with other pups. She has unique brindle markings that make her look like she would be just as home running through the savannah as she is curling up on the couch! Her DNA test revealed Chihuahua, Beagle, and Springer Spaniel, but she has the athletic nature of a greyhound. A family who enjoys daily walks and taking their dogs on adventures would be an ideal fit for this active girl. Frannie is housebroken, crate trained and knows basic commands and leash skills. She is spayed and up to date on her medicines.  Frannie needs a patient family who will use positive reinforcement training as she is easily frightened by yelling or physical discipline. She has some reactivity to dogs she doesn't know, but once she is comfortable, she loves her dog friends. If you are looking for a loving, loyal companion to share your days with, contact us for your chance to meet this lovely girl! Submit our adoption application at DSDA.org/adopt to set up a Meet n Greet with sweet Frannie!  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.  Must  be home more than not. Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions.  Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address. Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household. Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting. Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet. All poisonous plants must be removed from the yard.  DSDA is located in Dallas and requires a home visit on every adoption so only adopt to Dallas and surrounding areas. ##1736642##

Story
This adorable little girl is Tootsie! She is right about 5 or 6 months old. Tootsie had a rough start to life, but she has put that behind her! She is a happy, spunky little dog who loves to romp and play. She runs with the Labradors in her foster home and loves them all.Her favorite game is to fetch her Wubba and chase stray leaves that cross her path. She is a very smart pup, who caught on to crate training quickly. She only has the occasional accident... usually because her foster mom slept in late! Tootsie will be spayed and have a small eyelid tuck at the end of December. She will be ready for her forever home in January. Tootsie will be fully vaccinated and is on heartworm prevention. ##2244073##

Story
From Starving On Streets In Mexico To A Safe Loving Foster Home! Paloma was, like many homeless displaced pets, struggling to survive on the streets. A kind samaritan in Mexico took her in & reached out to us for help. Paloma was vetted & transported to our foster home in the Austin area. This precious girl was shy upon arriving, but soon made friends with her new foster siblings. Now she plays & smiles every day. We hope she will forget the time when she was fighting to survive on the streets, not knowing where or if she'd find her next meal. Paloma is a beautiful pup. She's estimated to be 1 year old & she's approx 20 lbs. She's been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped. She's current on heartworm prevention & flea prevention. Paloma would love to find a forever home. She would be happy either as part of a pack or as an only pet. She adores people, dogs & cats! She enjoys playing with doggie pals. She's crate trained, housetrained, pretty quiet & a little shy. She loves attention & would make a wonderful lap dog! 💕 If you're considering adding a little family member, please meet Paloma. She's a little sweetheart who has so much love to give. 🐾💞 615-540-8448 Furever Home Pet Rescue bemyforeverhome.org --> please copy-paste-SHARE Paloma's post! 🙏🩷

Story
Chevy is an incredibly sweet little guy, around 4-5 years old and weighing about 10 pounds. He came to us after his previous owners fell ill and could no longer care for him. While he initially had some hair loss from flea issues, his coat has grown back beautifully, and he’s now in great health! Chevy had never seen a vet before coming into rescue, but he’s thriving in our care. Although he was shy at first, he’s truly blossomed and now runs to me for snuggles, loving to be picked up and cuddled. He’s also house-trained and familiar with using a doggie door. This little guy was adopted two years ago, but he’s being returned because the busy energy of a home full of teenagers is too overwhelming for him. While he doesn’t bite or act aggressively, it’s clear that a calm environment would suit him best. We believe he’d be happiest with a single person or a couple, and he could likely handle a home with one gentle child, but a bustling household just isn’t his style. Chevy’s adoption fee is $225, and he’ll be ready to go to his new home now. If you think you could offer him the peaceful, loving home he needs, please fill out our online adoption application at http://www.chloespetrescue.org/application

Story
Pooh Bear is a special senior Chihuahua looking for a forever home after being rescued from the Dallas shelter's euthanasia list nearly a year ago. Surrendered by his owner at around eight years old due to health issues, Pooh Bear had a rough start but is ready for a fresh chapter. Partially blind, he can see shadows but occasionally bumps into things, though he manages well with a routine. Pooh Bear's demeanor is unique and requires patience—he took about two months to warm up enough for scratches but can be particular about when he's had enough attention. Despite a challenging start in foster care, he's come a long way and now navigates stairs and his favorite spots with ease. Pooh Bear communicates his needs by sticking his head through the banister or getting into a crate for transport outside, then returns promptly to his favorite spot in bed. At night, he enjoys lying next to you under the blankets but prefers no touching. This stinker of a Chihuahua is now around nine years old, 10 pounds, and seeking a patient and understanding home. If Pooh Bear sounds like the companion you've been looking for, submit your application today to meet him and witness his unique personality firsthand. He's ready to leave his past behind and flourish in a loving home. No children in household please. If you are interested in adding this special guy to your family, please go to our website and complete an application for adoption. www.chloespetrescue.org/application Pooh’s adoption fee is $75. He is fully vetted. Pooh Bear is considered special needs, so feel free to contact us to discuss adoption further.

Story
Lopez is a sweet boy who recently lost his owners due to their health issues, and ended up in the shelter after being found wandering as a stray. Poor boy, his world fell apart!  He's doing great in his current foster home, loving the other dogs. He is wary of new people who come into the home but warms up fairly well. He just completed his obedience training, so we are happy to report that he is doing better with new people!Lopez is a fun and affectionate boy hoping his next "forever home" will last forever! His ideal home would be a calm place, perhaps with a retired couple or a person without kids. He is good with other dogs, but prefers to be the only dog or to have a play buddy who is bigger than him.
