Story
Olivia is a special and sweet girl. She adores her human, has a mind of her own, and does not hesitate to let you know when she thinks she is not getting the attention she expects :) Her favorite thing seems to be to curl up under the blanket with her human and take long naps. She lives with 5 other dogs and is getting along great with them. She isn't scared to tell her big 50lb sister who is boss! She is very curious and wants to know what is going on at all times. She wants to be where you are to make sure she can keep an eye on you. Olivia has a few special needs, and is looking for a special family that will given her the extra care she requires. She can't use her back legs due to what might be a spinal injury. She does have sensation in both back legs though, so we started with some mobility exercises for a few months. We have also fitted her with a set of fancy pink wheels and she took to them immediately. They give her freedom, and she has quickly mastered how to navigate corners. She gets to wear them in the house several hours a day, until she decides she needs her precious naps. Now she zips around the house and the yard like a pro! She hasn't been doing exercises for some time now, however she has gained a bit more strength in her back legs and is able to stand up and take a few wobbly steps at a time. She also went for a short walk outside where she met several neighborhood kids and pups. More walks to come once the weather improves. Olivia is also a little incontinent, and that has been very easy to manage with washable diapers and a little help. Olivia has an amazingly inspiring zest for life and doesn't let this slow her down one bit. She is looking for her special family that will be willing to give her the little extra care she needs with loads of love that she absolutely demands :)Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 12:17 am

Story
Luna is around 5 years old, almost 7 pounds of cuteness and a Chi Mix. She likes to play and rest with her foster siblings. Like one of her foster siblings, she does like to lay/sleep on blankets and the dog beds available and occasionally her foster sibling. She does like to chew and play with toys. Don’t leave your shoes out, she may grab and play with them like toys too. Anyone who adopts this sweet girl, should probably have a fur sibling to play with. We do not know how she is around cats, we don’t have any and we are not sure how she will be around small children. We think she needs a lot of love to get past whatever her life used to be like.      Application available at https://www.pawsofloverescue.com/adoption-application.  Adoption fee of $150 includes neuter/spay, microchip, heartworm testing, deworming, vaccinations, and other necessary procedures.  Applications without a phone number will not be processed. Luna is around 5 years old, almost 7 pounds of cuteness and a Chi Mix. She likes to play and rest with her foster siblings. For the most part, she is potty trained. At night, there is a pee pad left out that she can use. Otherwise she is on the same schedule as the foster siblings. She did well the first night in a kennel by herself, the second night she wanted to be with the foster siblings and that is how she has slept since. Like one of her foster siblings, she does like to lay/sleep on blankets and the dog beds available and occasionally her foster sibling. She is still a little timid around her foster humans, and we think that she may not be used to being treated like the sweet girl she is. She can be quick to run from you if you try to pick her up or put a leash on. She does like to chew and play with toys. Don’t leave your shoes out, she may grab and play with them like toys too. Anyone who adopts this sweet girl, should probably have a fur sibling to play with. We do not know how she is around cats, we don’t have any and we are not sure how she will be around small children. When sudden movements are made where she is not aware, it can startle her and may cause her to nip. Re-introducing Darci! Darci is a 2ish year old Chihuahua-terrier mix female. She has cerebral hypoplasia. This means she wobbles when she walks. She does a great job of adapting to physical situations. She loves playing with all the other foster puppies and gets the zoomies sometimes. She does not require any extra medicine or equipment. She does have a fear of taller men (possible past housing situations) She will take more time to warm up to a new environment but once she's comfortable, her true goofy personality and tiny tail wags come out. Despite her disability, she greets her foster mom everyday with happy tail wags and is ready to get on with the day. She's comfortable with all the dogs, cats, and small children in the house. To meet Darci, please fill out an application! Application available at https://www.pawsofloverescue.com/adoption-application . Story
Cain is a 6 1/2 year old 14 pound chihuahua that thrives of attention. He's such a happy little guy especially when he's around children. He has never let the fact he's paralyzed from the waist down affect his demeanor or block his little ray of sunshine! He's also dog & cat  friendly and loves people!   Cain's favorite thing to do is burrow under a blanket as close to your body as he can but he doesnt mind sleeping in his own bed or play pen at night. In the mornings he is ready for some good neck scratches and attention from each child in his Foster Home. Food is the way to Cain's heart. He loves strawberries, apples, and egg with his medicine which he takes twice a day. He never appears to be in any pain and is so full of life and has so much love to give. He loves stroller rides, car rides and even days where he can just lay around with his favorite friend. Cain is learning to use the wheelchair but not yet a fan.  He prefers the lifting harness to be carried.  If you open the door to go outside, he will come flying down the hallway because he LOVES being outside!!!! The best part is how excited he gets, about food and people he loves. He does the "Cain Dance" where his ears go back, he smiles big while hopping around and spinning until you get on the floor and love on him. To meet Cain in person visit us at www.DSDA.org/adopt and submit our online application.   * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325  Dogs (over 12 months) - $275  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. Story
Meet Frances “Frannie,” an amazingly adorable 3 1/2 year-old bundle of love, excitement, and adventure! Frannie is best described as a big dog in a small dog package.  At 24 lbs, she is happy to lie across your lap or be picked up to put in the car, but she holds herself with the stature of larger pups.  She is strong, energetic, and protective of the ones she loves.  She enjoys getting attention and snuggling with her foster parents as well as wrestling with other pups. She has unique brindle markings that make her look like she would be just as home running through the savannah as she is curling up on the couch! Her DNA test revealed Chihuahua, Beagle, and Springer Spaniel, but she has the athletic nature of a greyhound. A family who enjoys daily walks and taking their dogs on adventures would be an ideal fit for this active girl. Frannie is housebroken, crate trained and knows basic commands and leash skills. She is spayed and up to date on her medicines.  Frannie needs a patient family who will use positive reinforcement training as she is easily frightened by yelling or physical discipline. She has some reactivity to dogs she doesn't know, but once she is comfortable, she loves her dog friends. If you are looking for a loving, loyal companion to share your days with, contact us for your chance to meet this lovely girl! Submit our adoption application at DSDA.org/adopt to set up a Meet n Greet with sweet Frannie!  Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.  Must  be home more than not. Vet checks are required! Story
Woof! I'm a senior gentleman looking for my forever home. I may be a bit hard of hearing, but I'm still full of love and waggles! I'm a big softie who loves cuddles and belly rubs. I'm a pro at chilling out and going with the flow. I'm good with just about everyone – humans, cats, dogs, you name it! I'm also a master of the leash and love going for walks. Plus, I'm a total pro at patio dining. I've had a rough start, but I'm ready to trade in my past for a future filled with love and belly rubs. I promise to be the sweetest, most laid-back companion you could ask for. So, what do you say? Ready to give an old boy like me a chance? Here's how to adopt me: Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $125 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets. APPLY HERE: www.richardsonhumanesociety.org ##2197443##

Story
Eddie was found in March 2024, in a locked, empty storage unit along with a cat. No food, no water, not even something to lay on. Extremely dehydrated and nothing but bones, Eddie was barely clinging on to life. He was rushed to the vet and was started on life saving treatment. Eddie survived but at first he was extremely snappy and did not want to be touched. We can only wonder the abuse this poor little dog suffered. Eddie has been neutered, had his teeth cleaned, and his fur has grown back. He loves other dogs and cats and still likes to play a little with them. He is very affectionate and likes to be petted now. Eddie will stand on your leg to be petted, though he is still a little wobbly on his feet. There are times when Eddie will still snap, though usually it's when another pet wants to horn in on his petting and attention. He gives a warning when he starts to feel snappy and we simply withdraw our hands and he is fine. He has not bitten his foster parents even once. No he is not perfect. Not being neutered and probably kept in a cage most of his life, Eddie is wary and still marks a little in the house. He loves to be outside and is very social with other pets. We feel that his back is a little curved from being kept in a too small crate. He had x-rays and there is no damage showing. A little arthritis. Eddie would be a good companion. He just needs a quiet home where he can get attention and some love to live out his days. He deserves a good life to help make up for the bad life he has had.

My comedic journey to the shelter started when I was living with a family of feline enthusiasts. You see, I have this peculiar trait where I can't resist chasing laser pointers. One day, I mistook the red dot from the family's presentation pointer for my playtime toy. I leapt, twirled, and somersaulted across their important business meeting, creating quite a spectacle! Now, I'm here, waiting for a new family. If you love laughter, fun-filled chaos, and a loyal companion, then I'm your girl!November 25, 2024, 7:13 pm
