Story
Meet handsome Dupuis. His momma is an 11 lbs chi mix ... daddy unknown, so we are guessing based on current size he will remain around 25 -35 lbs when full grown, as he currently tops out at just about 12 lbs and was born 6/6/24. Dupuis has a very sweet personality and is looking for a forever home with a person or family that can keep up with him and work with him on potty and leash training. He has only had direct contact with other small dogs so far. Please no small children under 8 years old and a fenced yard is preferred as active pups need a safe place to run and burn off energy. He is micro chipped, neutered and current on vaccines, heartworm and flea and tick. If you think you can be that family for Dupuis, please fill out our adoption application on our website at www.safehaventn.com . We are happy to set up a meet and greet for the approved application. His adoption fee is $ 300 and he is being fostered in Cookeville, TN. Out of state adoptions are $350 plus the cost of transport if not picked up in Tennessee.

Story
Meet Romeo, an adorable senior pup with a heart as big as his name! This sweet boy is over 8 years old and, while he’s slowly losing his eyesight, he’s still healthy, happy, and full of love to give. Romeo recently had a dental cleaning and had a few teeth removed, but that hasn’t stopped him from enjoying life. He’s a well-behaved, housebroken gentleman who loves all adults, kids, dogs, and even cats. Romeo’s favorite pastime is lounging outside in the sun, soaking up the warmth and enjoying the world around him. His gentle, loving nature makes him an ideal companion for a retired individual or couple. He thrives in a calm, cozy home and would prefer someone who works from home or spends most of their time at home. Romeo is ready to bring endless love and comfort to his forever family—could that be you?

Chico has not had a good life. He came to us from North Carolina, where, we believe, he was kept in a crate when he was a puppy. The crate was too small for him, not letting his legs grow properly, and he was malnourished. Chico is a sweet boy, who wants to follow you everywhere and be your little shadow. He is fine with other dogs but doesn’t really interact with them much. He’s more interested in being with his humans. He is not comfortable with someone picking him up, especially strangers. He will play with toys some but is more interested in snuggling in a dog bed. Children must be respectful of his space as he was not treated well at the last home, where he was pestered by the younger child. Chico will come to you in his own correctly sized crate. Please consider Chico, he deserves the last part of his life to be a happy and peaceful one!   ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
