Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.12/14/24 STILL AVAILABLE 10/21 Luna Moonpie Looking for a local (Arkansas or nearby) adopter! Luna is a tiny chihuahua/pug mix who has had a bit of a traumatic few months. She came into rescue a few months ago when her owner had to go to assisted living. Luna had lived in an apartment with her mom most of her life, rarely seeing other people. She has been in a foster home, where she loves the woman but only tolerates the man and the other dogs. She was adopted briefly by the perfect adopter- an older lady who lived alone with no other pets- but had to be returned after she tried to bite a delivery driver. Luna has the typical Chihuahua personality. She is nervous and will bite out of fear. Imagine how scary this world would be if you were only 8 lbs? She is a one person kind of dog, and she will defend and protect that person at all cost! She doesn't care for other dogs, but may be able to coexist with another dog who won't try to force interactions with her. She really just wants a lap to sit in and a human to cuddle. She loves sleeping in bed with her person. She is not super vocal so apartment life would be fine for her. She is not fully house trained but will use potty pads most of the time. Because of the high likelihood of failed adoption, and the stress of transport, we feel strongly that Luna needs a local home, in case she needs to come back into rescue, we can be her safety net. She would be the perfect companion for a single retired person. Please share Luna's post. It is so hard to find a home for a dog like this. But she didn't ask to lose her mama, she didn't ask to be undersocialized, and she didn't ask for chihuahua genes. It's just who she is, and she still deserves a good home and to be loved. Luna is 4 years old.For questions or more info, email apps.aasr@gmail.com. To apply to adopt: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 To see more of our available dogs, Www.adoptastrayrescue.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion. Story
Surrendered by my former home and only having lived with one person without much socialization, I find myself unsure of people, yet longing to be loved.  I’m Snoopy, a 2 yr old Long Haired Chihuahua mix Boy, weighing about 15 #, who is uncertain of the outside world. Having lived most of my first year with one person, I’m shy, timid, reserved and skittish to people and situations. ( NOT Aggressive ). On the “FLIP SIDE” I LOVE other dogs, am gentle, good natured and playful! My fear CAN BE CORRECTED with your love, understanding and time. I’m very intelligent and sometimes to smart for my own good.  My caregivers tell me that I think I’m a big dog in a little dogs body.  I say I’m large and in charge.  I still have things to learn about being a dog and living in a home, but with your help, I’m sure this won’t take long. Just having consistent care givers I’m already learning to give and take love here. Being VERY DOG FRIENDLY, another dog would be best in my new home, but not required. Sorry, no kids due to my skittishness, for my safety. NO issues with aggression, just safety.  I do require a 4 ft fenced yard due to my fear, shyness and just for my safety as well. So, what ya think? Do you want to take a “GAMBLE”, “Roll the Dice”, and “HIT the JACKPOT”!  To submit an adoption application, visit mollysplacerescue.org. Fill the form out completely, print, scan and email back to mollysplace@verizon.net. You must obtain pre-approval prior to visiting the dog or cat. Adoptions fees include the following:    spay/neuter surgery,  microchip and registration,  age appropriate vaccinations,  initial dewormings,  Activyl for fleas,  tested for FeLV and FIV (cats only),  bubble bath prior to going home (dogs only) WE do not "HOLD" animals without an approved application and a non-refundable/non-transferable paid adoption fee.  Adoptions are on a first come, first serve basis.  We can not send extra pictures.  WE do not ship, you must pick up the pet.  Kitties must be transported in a secure cat carrier.   Pooches require a "martingale" collar and a non-retractable leash. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 9:38 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Ozzie is part of a group of 4 chihuahua's that were given to us from a home with 11 dogs that were never given human attention.  They are very fearful of everything.  We are working slowly with each of them.Update:Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, lived a very scared and broken-hearted chihuahua. His name was Ozzie. He was taken to boarding until a foster home became available to wish away the memories that scared and scarred him. Within a week, a lady came to pick him up. Ozzie saw the lady and tried to hide in a corner of the boarding facility. The lady took a step closer and Ozzie pooped his pants! (Okay, Ozzie didn't have pants on and it hit the floor. But, we don't want to embarrass him about being naked in public.) The lady spent a long time sitting near him and talking to him before Ozzie would crawl onto her lap. The lady took Ozzie home with her.  Ozzie was given his own room with a crate to sleep in. It had a warm fluffy bed. The lady placed him in the crate to adjust to the sounds of the house. Ozzie had never been more scared in his life. Whenever the lady tried to put a leash on his collar he would try to scare her away with snarls and barks, but she wouldn't give up. For 2 weeks the lady would dangle a slip lead through the crate and loop it around him before she could put his leash on.   The foster lady had discovered that Ozzie was afraid to have anyone be near his head. Ozzie started to realize that no matter how much he showed his fears, this foster lady wouldn't give up on trying to love him. His foster mom started leaving his crate and bedroom door open. One night he peeked into her bedroom and saw her with two other dogs on her bed. They were playing and licking her face...and she laughed and seemed to like it. Ozzie snuck closer and closer...until he was up on the bed at the bottom, watching as the other dogs moved closer to foster mom and cuddled up to sleep! Foster mom pretended not to notice as Ozzie crept closer and closer...until he came up to her and cuddled too! This went on for several nights. Finally, Ozzie decided that he wasn't so afraid of foster mom and he was going to give her a kiss on the face like the other dogs did. Foster mom was filled with joy. This kiss meant more than any wet puppy kiss she ever had. The scared and broken-hearted chihuahua had turned a corner and found someone he could trust and care for!As the days and weeks turned into months, Ozzie started to try playing with the other dogs.  He would sit on foster mom's lap, drink her iced tea and coffee when she wasn't paying attention, and start going up to other members of the household for petting. Ozzie learned nobody was going to hurt his head and all the humans respected his wish to allow him to give kisses first and not reach for his head or put their face in his without first being asked to by him. Life for Ozzie was the best he could remember. Then, one day, foster mom brought home a pup. The pup's name was Dink. Dink was a very energetic and playful puppy. Ozzie wasn't sure why, but foster mom decided to introduce him to Dink in the play yard...just the two of them! Ozzie heard foster mom tell someone she was so happy to finally see him play like a young dog should. Ozzie continued to play with Dink. They ran and ran in the green grass until they were both tired and thirsty. Ozzie thinks he heard foster mom say she hopes he finds a furever home now that his fears have lessened. Ozzie now has joy and hope in his heart that he will soon find another patient and understanding home of humans that he could make as happy as foster mom!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. The 3 of us are so thankful to be with 2nd Chance!  I am a very sweet gal that loves to be on your lap, get cuddles and kisses, I love to play with Roxy, and be outside enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Roxy and I have lived together all of our lives, so for that reason we must be adopted together.
