Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sadie Ann is a 5 year old, 13 pound adorable mixed breed that we are told is a Chorkie. She has the sweetest personality ever, the coat of a wire haired Terrier, and a little tuft on her head that can be spiked to a mohawk. She is healthy, playful, loves attention, but is also independent. Sadie is housetrained, crate trained, and great in a car. She just doesn't know how to walk on a leash yet, but with a little more work she can get there so a fenced yard is a must. Sadie loves other dogs to run and wrestle around with. She is healthy and fully recovered from her spay and dental so the next step is finding this unique looking girl her happily ever after! To adopt Sadie Ann, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, spay, dental, and all the love you can handle! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Ozzie is part of a group of 4 chihuahua's that were given to us from a home with 11 dogs that were never given human attention.  They are very fearful of everything.  We are working slowly with each of them.Update:Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, lived a very scared and broken-hearted chihuahua. His name was Ozzie. He was taken to boarding until a foster home became available to wish away the memories that scared and scarred him. Within a week, a lady came to pick him up. Ozzie saw the lady and tried to hide in a corner of the boarding facility. The lady took a step closer and Ozzie pooped his pants! (Okay, Ozzie didn't have pants on and it hit the floor. But, we don't want to embarrass him about being naked in public.) The lady spent a long time sitting near him and talking to him before Ozzie would crawl onto her lap. The lady took Ozzie home with her.  Ozzie was given his own room with a crate to sleep in. It had a warm fluffy bed. The lady placed him in the crate to adjust to the sounds of the house. Ozzie had never been more scared in his life. Whenever the lady tried to put a leash on his collar he would try to scare her away with snarls and barks, but she wouldn't give up. For 2 weeks the lady would dangle a slip lead through the crate and loop it around him before she could put his leash on.   The foster lady had discovered that Ozzie was afraid to have anyone be near his head. Ozzie started to realize that no matter how much he showed his fears, this foster lady wouldn't give up on trying to love him. His foster mom started leaving his crate and bedroom door open. One night he peeked into her bedroom and saw her with two other dogs on her bed. They were playing and licking her face...and she laughed and seemed to like it. Ozzie snuck closer and closer...until he was up on the bed at the bottom, watching as the other dogs moved closer to foster mom and cuddled up to sleep! Foster mom pretended not to notice as Ozzie crept closer and closer...until he came up to her and cuddled too! This went on for several nights. Finally, Ozzie decided that he wasn't so afraid of foster mom and he was going to give her a kiss on the face like the other dogs did. Foster mom was filled with joy. This kiss meant more than any wet puppy kiss she ever had. The scared and broken-hearted chihuahua had turned a corner and found someone he could trust and care for!As the days and weeks turned into months, Ozzie started to try playing with the other dogs.  He would sit on foster mom's lap, drink her iced tea and coffee when she wasn't paying attention, and start going up to other members of the household for petting. Ozzie learned nobody was going to hurt his head and all the humans respected his wish to allow him to give kisses first and not reach for his head or put their face in his without first being asked to by him. Life for Ozzie was the best he could remember. Then, one day, foster mom brought home a pup. The pup's name was Dink. Dink was a very energetic and playful puppy. Ozzie wasn't sure why, but foster mom decided to introduce him to Dink in the play yard...just the two of them! Ozzie heard foster mom tell someone she was so happy to finally see him play like a young dog should. Ozzie continued to play with Dink. They ran and ran in the green grass until they were both tired and thirsty. Ozzie thinks he heard foster mom say she hopes he finds a furever home now that his fears have lessened. Ozzie now has joy and hope in his heart that he will soon find another patient and understanding home of humans that he could make as happy as foster mom!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fostering is a very important part of rescue because it allows more animals to be saved. There is a capacity on how many dogs Peace Love & Poms Rescue can have at one time and sadly we can’t save every dog that needs our help. Every foster home that welcomes a foster dog, opens a space at the rescue so that another dog can be saved.  Fostering also provides an in-home experience, which makes the dog that much more adaptable.  Fostering is extremely rewarding and you are helping to save innocent lives.  PA Kennel License 17652 Lebanon, PAVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 12:46 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Steely is searching for his perfect home! This 7(we think) year old 14-pound boy is healthy, but he does have quirks. Not much is known about his background, but we know his history since March 2023. He was sent to a Pittsburgh shelter for emergency boarding. After 2 months with nobody coming back to get him or return calls, he was abandoned in the shelter. That’s when we were contacted. Shelter life was not good to him, and he was starting to act out and become aggressive to the staff and other dogs. Steely is easily excitable so we started medication to help him level out. After a month with his foster family, he has started to calm down, not be so reactive, and learn how to be a loved house dog. He needs a patient parent who will help build his confidence and not force anything on him. He does not like surprise sudden movements towards him, which has caused him to lash out. He responds well to praise and high value treats, but it has taken him time to warm up to new people and settle into a new environment. Steely is house trained to go on the pee pads, crate trained at night, rides well in a car, loves his chewies, and eats very well. He is great on a leash and will walk by your side. Despite his anxiety, he is good with grooming and tolerates vet visits. He does not like large dogs! He does OK with other dogs his size and smaller, but we think he will be best suited as the only dog in the house. He loves to have all of the attention on him, and will sit in your lap for pets. He can get a little nippy if he feels like you're not paying enough attention. Because of this, Steely cannot go to a home with children and would do best in a home that will continue to work with him and help him be the best boy he can be. Once Steely settles in, recognizes you, and trusts you, he will be your constant companion. To adopt Steely, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter, dental, and all the love you can handle! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Pogo is a stunning black and tan Pomsky who has found himself in several homes in his short life. In one home he did have a shock collar used which left him with a wound on his neck that has long since healed. He is 3 years old and weighs 20 pounds. Pogo takes time to adjust to a new home and new people so you must have patience during the transition phase. He will also need a spot that is his safety zone whether a crate or room that is designated for him to use when he gets scared or overwhelmed. This provides a healthy way for him to leave situations and calm himself. This boy is smart and HIGHLY ENERGETIC! Pogo does require a fenced yard as he needs a space to burn off his energy. He would be perfect for competitive agility or lure coursing because he is fast, healthy, and agile. Pogo needs a very active home that will fulfill his physical and mental needs. This boy is also HILARIOUS! He is so quirky, fun, and is sure to make you laugh everyday. Pogo is great with other playful dogs too; he plays just right with the super small furkids and the big furkids like him. He also loves to get the other dogs to chase him, that is his happiest time when he is in the lead with dogs on his heals. The downside to Pogo is he has a lack of impulse control so he likes to get into things (this is a work in progress), but a quick squeak of a ball and toss, he will drop what he is doing to fetch. He is also reactive to new people which is all vocal, but it can be scary for the person so he will need continued socialization and positive reinforcement to overcome his fear. In fact, once he bonds to his human he listens well and focuses on them which makes for a great time being out and about without him having issues. He is great for grooming with a little calming medication and the same for vet visits. He does enjoy car rides, and he has learned how to use a crate properly too. So if you are looking for a wild child, who needs a little help broadening his horizon then Pogo is the boy for you! We have sure enjoyed having him here in rescue, but it is time for him to find his forever home... To adopt Pogo, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org.
