Story
Meet Miss Peggy! This senior chi-weenie gal is full of love and sass. When she's not zooming around playing with toys or dogs, you can find her somewhere sleeping under a blanket. Peggy loves her people and doesn't like to be without them. Ideally, Peggy is looking for someone who works from home since she loves being with her people so much. She's not a fan of being crated and will let you know that. While she's small, Peggy is not a good fit for apartments/shared walls since she can sing the song of her people when she is left alone. She loves to wrestle, chase, and snuggle with other dogs. We strongly prefer that she goes to a home where she can have a canine companion to be besties with. She also loves laying outside in the sunshine, but a fence is not required. She does well on a leash and loves to go on walks. Peggy is house-trained and very good at letting you know when she needs to go out. Younger kids make her a little nervous, so she should go to a home with older kids or no kids. Even though Peggy is a senior, she's quite fit. Her only "issue upon coming to us was her mouth. Years of improper dental care took a toll on her and Peggy had to have 12 teeth removed when she came to Freedom Ride. She will be good as new once she's healed from these extractions. If you and your dog are looking for a new friend, apply to meet Peggy today!

Story
Meet Teddy! Teddy is an irresistibly charming Chihuahua mix with a big personality packed into a small frame. He’s never met a stranger (or a toy) he didn’t love. Nearly a year old, Teddy still has all the joyful puppy energy, curiosity, and playfulness that make every day more fun. Between his cute curly tail, expressive perky-meets-floppy ears, and darling little face, it’s hard not to fall in love -- but it’s his affectionate nature that truly steals hearts. Teddy has so much love to give and is eagerly waiting to share it with his forever family and adventure partner(s). He’s almost fully house trained and is doing wonderfully with both leash and crate training. With a little gentle patience and consistency, he’ll continue to thrive. An active and curious boy, Teddy enjoys being entertained and would love a home that can keep him engaged. He’s interested in meeting other dogs and may do well with a canine companion to play with and learn from. While generally a quiet pup, he will speak up when he wants attention or feels the need to protect his people. If you’re looking for an affectionate, playful, and utterly adorable pup who wants nothing more than your love, attention, and playtime, Teddy might be your perfect match. Apply today to meet this sweet boy!

Story
Salami is a beautiful chocolate-brown Chihuahua mix with the sweetest eyes and an even sweeter heart. She was rescued from a tough situation where she became pregnant far too young, but those days are behind her now, and Salami is safe, loved, and ready to find her forever family. This gentle girl can be shy at first and appreciates a little time to feel comfortable in new surroundings. Once she does, her playful personality shines through. She loves cuddles, toys, and cozying up with her favorite humans. Salami has proven to be a trusted and well-mannered companion inside the home. She’s doing great with her house training and continues to make steady progress. She’s still working on feeling fully confident in her crate, but with patience and reassurance, she’s learning that it’s a safe and comfortable space. Salami is also learning all about the joys of being an indoor dog and has been doing wonderfully! She’s even taken it upon herself to “decorate” her home with toys in every room, just to make things feel more cheerful. Salami would be happiest in a home with another friendly dog or with humans who are home often, as she loves companionship. She also enjoys having her own space to run and explore, so a fenced yard would be ideal for her to handle her “business” privately and safely. If you’re looking for a tenderhearted companion who just needs a little patience and a lot of love, Salami might be your perfect match!

Story
Name / Breed / Age: Ludwig, Chihuahua, Senior Personality Traits: The Velcro Pup, Curious, Loveable Likes / Dislikes:  Likes: butt scratches, French fries. Dislikes: jam bands (hard to keep up with the beat) pen- he needs freedom to explore! Health and behavior history:  Up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and neutered. Clean bill of health from the PIPs Vet!   If you’ve ever dreamed of living with a tiny, determined old man who navigates life entirely by commitment and vibes — Ludwig is your guy.   Before Ludwig was surrendered to a local shelter with his siblings, he spent far too long living in a cramped little crate. Now that he finally has space in a foster home, he’s exploring like he’s training for a very small, very adorable expedition. Walls? Interesting. Furniture legs? Intriguing. Your shins? His preferred landmark.   Despite not seeing or hearing a thing, Ludwig is wildly curious and surprisingly confident. He conquered the stairs almost instantly and now struts around like a miniature landlord checking his property. It is likely Ludwig has always been blind, but we are unsure if he has always been deaf.    Ludwig is obsessed with being scratched and he LOVES playing with his humans. Toys? No interest. Other dogs? Sure. But humans? You’re the main event. He snores with the confidence of a full-grown bear, despite being roughly the size of a sandwich.   Potty training is going well as long as he sticks to his schedule, and he’s working on basic training with a level of enthusiasm that makes up for the whole “can’t hear commands” situation. He’s smart, he’s spirited, and he’s powered entirely by determination, an amazing sniffer, and touch.   If you want a senior pup with the enthusiasm of a puppy, the determination of a tiny explorer, and the comedic timing of a seasoned entertainer, Ludwig is your guy. Be prepared to laugh a lot — this little man is pure joy on four legs. ##2588517##

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.DOB: 8/1/2020I am a happy boy that likes my people and gets along with other dogs. I am housebroken, crate trained, and love to snuggle with my foster mom. I  am a 4 year old black Chihuahua Mix - neutered  - up to date on all vaccines - and so ready to find my forever home.   While I do love all people, it would be best that my forever home does not have any small children as I tend to get a little rough and mouthy when playing.   I do prefer that my new forever home is a home with a fenced in yard and has a doggie door.  I don’t really like the apartment life! I like to run and get in my exercise when I go out to take care of business. I do not like dog parks, there is just too much going on and I will be very vocal because not all eyes are on me! If you think I am a good match for you please put in an application and my foster mom will be in contact. Come meet me at the next adoption event!  Up to date on age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, neutered and micro-chipped.   Adoption Fee:   $100.00   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 7, 2025, 10:30 pm

Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes, would prefer a home with another dog companion Good with Cats: A little scared of cats Good with Kids: Yes, with older kids Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: Yes - he can be an "escape artist" About Newton’s Breed: Chihuahuas are bold, confident and loyal. Newton is a gentle soul with a playful streak and a head tilt that’ll melt your heart. When his foster mom talks to him, he tilts his head side to side like he’s hanging on every word! Newton’s Noteworthy Highlights: • Beautiful green eyes and an expressive little face • Crate trained, and progressing well with potty training • Loves toys, treats, and outdoor playtime • Medium energy—active in the yard, mellow on the couch • Dog-friendly, and loves to play with canine pals and would do best in a home with other dogs • Nervous around new people, but warms up with patience • Best with older, respectful kids—quick movements scare him • Scared of cats, but open to learning • Still learning leash confidence, but loves to explore (needs a fenced yard for safety) • A little food guarding behavior, likely from a tough past • Affectionate and cuddly, loves being near his people • Will crawl up your leg for love and snacks Newton is still a puppy at heart—curious, sensitive, and full of potential. Story
Meet PBJ — born October 17, 2025, this tiny girl is pure sweetness wrapped in fur! Quick Facts: Name: PBJ Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 2 months old Weight: 6 lbs. House-Trained: Working on it! Crate-Trained: No Good with Dogs: Yes (but with proper and slow introductions) Good with Cats: Not tested Good with Kids: Yes (older, respectful kids since he’s a puppy) Energy Level: Medium to High Fence Required: Unknown About PBJ’s Breed: Our best guess is that PBJ is a Chihuahua mix. Chihuahuas are tiny dogs with bold personalities, known for their loyalty, confidence, and affectionate nature. Despite their small size, they often act like big dogs, making them spirited companions who bond closely with their families. An ideal home for a Chihuahua is one that provides gentle handling, consistent routines, and lots of companionship. They thrive in apartments or houses alike, as long as they are kept safe, warm, and not left alone for long periods. Because of their delicate size, they do best in households where interactions—especially with children or other pets—are calm and respectful. With love and patience, Chihuahuas make devoted little companions who bring big personality to any home. All About PBJ: PBJ is the snuggliest little pup, happiest when she’s being held close and showered with love. Like any playful puppy, she plays hard and naps hard, bringing joy and laughter to her foster home. She has a silly streak too—sometimes stealing socks—but it’s all part of her adorable puppy charm and something she’ll likely grow out of. PBJ especially loves tummy rubs and will flop over to show her belly, asking for affection in the cutest way possible. Her name has a special story: her foster mom shared a grilled cheese sandwich with PBJ’s mom, Goldie, as a way to build trust and friendship. From that sweet moment, PBJ got her name.  PBJ’s Highlights: • Sweet and snuggly, loves being held • Playful puppy energy, plays hard and naps hard • Sock stealer, with a mischievous but adorable streak • Affectionate, flops over for belly rubs • Special name story, tied to her mom Goldie’s journey PBJ is ready to find her forever family—a home where she’ll grow up surrounded by love, cuddles, and the joy of being cherished every single day. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/.
