Story
My name should have been Happy because I am the happiest boy. But the name Lucky, also, fits because I am Lucky now to have been rescued. I am about a five year old or older Chihuahua. I was abandoned in a place with about 7 other Chihuahuas. You can guess what the place looked and smelled after we were left there for a long time. Some of the other Chi’s were eating through the walls to get out. We were rescued and taken to the shelter. I think my siblings and I were so glad to be out of the place where we were left. The shelter said we all had great dispositions. My tail has not stopped wagging since I came to my foster home. I do have some tremors but the humans are not sure why. All of us left behind were very malnourished which could attribute to my issues. My hip bones are showing and I am really skinny. But rest assure I am being fed now and will fatten up just fine. I do bump into things on occasion but I don’t let the stop me. I run, I play and I ask for attention. I have a funny little gait as well. Again this could come from being so happy or being so malnourished. Again it does not stop me from doing all the doggy things I need to do. So far I get along with other dogs. I am starting to play with another dog about my size. I am just learning to play with toys. I pick the toys up and am so happy but then not sure what to do. I am watching the others dogs so I am sure I will catch on. I get along with all sizes of dogs as long as they are nice to me. I am not perfectly housebroken but will wear a belly band and it is usually dry when I get outside to use the potty. Not being housebroken may have to do with not being neutered and from being inside for a long time. I will be neutered in November so I am given a chance to put on weight and get stronger. I am starting to go into a crate when I need to. I do not always want to be crated but it is safe. I love to eat and have treats. I love to be outside with my human and doggy friends. I am learning to walk on a leash. It took me two days to learn my foster home’s routine so I am smart. I can be a bit fearful in a new situation but once I am comfortable, I am wide open. I will just cower when I feel unsafe. As long as folks give me time I will come around. I do love being held. I go nonstop and so does that tail of mine. I am happy to be in a safe and clean spot. If you have a spot in your house I can be safe in let us know. I would love a forever family that I can be loved and cared for. Please complete an application at safeanimalhaven.org if interested in giving Lucky a forever home!November 5, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
When Lola came into the rescue, she was a hefty 12 lb chihuahua. Her former owner became ill and could no longer care for her. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and preventions.  Lola is looking for a foster/adopter who is committed to helping her lose weight and getting her socialized.  Ideally, this would involve hand feeding so that she can start to build a bond with her foster/adopter. Since coming into rescue, she has lost some weight and is becoming more active.  We have learned that Lola will play with your feet and that she is a huge fan of pizza crust.  She loves her doggy bed, too! She is pee pad trained and goes to the door to poop - but won’t go outside - and prefers to use the peepad.  This girl is slow to warm up but does want to be loved. She likes attention and even talks back when talked to. She is head shy, so if you go towards her with your hand, she lets you know that she does not like that and will use her teeth. It will take a special foster/adopter who is willing to work through this issue with her.  An ideal home for her would be an adult only home.  She is dog friendly.November 6, 2024, 9:04 am

Story
Anna is a 9 year old, 10lb adorable Chug (chihuahua/pug mix) who has endured some big human turmoil recently and ended up in a Middle Tennessee shelter. Not much is known of her history, but her underweight condition indicates at least some neglect took place. A really devoted foster mom for critter.Cavalry turquoise noticed her profile in the shelter and realize that being a senior she might not be chosen very easily by the general public.  This young foster woman is making sure that Anna is gaining much needed weight slowly.  She’s starting to put on weight and enjoys her meal times-with the occasional treat of whipped cream. While she is timid at first and a little wary of quick movements, it doesn’t take long for her to warm up and become your best snuggle buddy. Anna has some spunk and can run up stairs as fast as any puppy. She seems to be good with other dogs and initiates playing, though she doesn’t know what to do with toys. She does well on a leash and going outside. She is catching on to potty training (another example of her neglected past) and we are wanting someone who works from home or is retired as she does exhibit some separation anxiety in her first week with us.  She has found the cozy comforts of warm blankets and fluffy pillows and burrows underneath.  Anna has lots of love to give and deserves  a family to spoil her.   Please email ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested.  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comFebruary 18, 2025, 12:12 pm

Story
Prince was rescued from the streets of Ft. Worth, TX and transported to Nashville, TN  about 5 years ago. This handsome boy is 6 years old now and is a darling white Chihuahua weighing 14.5 pounds. He is very sweet and loves to cuddle and loves to burrow under a blanket at the end of the bed and sleep. He enjoys being petted, but doesn't like being picked up suddenly.  He loves to go for walks on a leash and like most Chihuahuas he loves car rides and going for adventures.  This boy, certain has certainly has his list of blue quirky, things that need to be respected and observed and left alone with.  He guards his toys and food so we don't take them away from him.  His favorite toys are toys that squeak and he is gentle with them.  Prince will do really well in a mature home of empty nesters or senior persons that are retired.  A home with young children would not be the best place for him. Young children stress him out. Prince needs someone .that understands he's a sassy Chihuahua and is willing to respect his boundaries. Someone with Chihuahua experience would be amazing!  Princess fine with other dogs and cats and a quiet home life.   He is housebroken and doesn't destroy things when home alone. Prince does have the wonderful sides to him. And the sides that need to be respected and observed. As with most small breed, dogs who can be particular.  If you would like to give this young chihuahua, a beautiful home and life where he can devote all his love and attention to you. Then please write to critter cavalry, rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com  asap!! Story
Breed: Chihuahua Gender: Female Estimated Birthday: Current Weight: House & Crate Trained: Yes Adoption Fee: $365 Poptart is a roughly 6-8 years old Chihuahua mix ready for a loving home! Poptart weighs 20 lbs. and was surrendered by her previous family to a local shelter. Her foster family describes her as a medium level activity goer and she doesn’t require long walks. The key to happiness for Poptart is to be where the people are and to nap someplace warm like in front of a fireplace. She loves treats! Poptart gets along well with other dogs; she doesn’t play much but may even cuddle with them once she gets to know them well. Introductions to other dogs should be done calmly, and she doesn’t like a new energetic dog right in her face jumping or barking at her. Poptart is potty trained and has done well with older children. She isn’t a fan of being picked up and prefers to get herself into a cozy spot ready to snuggle. If warm cuddles sound like a perfect match for you then Poptart is your gal! Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee is $365 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care. - Local adopters only. Story
Kane is a 1 year old very active chihuahua pup. He spends his days wrestling with his older sister dog. He is very loyal, gentle, and loving. Rehoming him may be hard as he does nothing without his sister dog but he requires a very active and young family and my kids are older. He knows his name and he knows when he does something wrong but has some issues with listening and he gets bored quite often and tends to destroy things when that happens. He has some anxiety when I am not home and will start destroying things then as well. He just requires someone who can spend time training and teaching him he also needs space to run as he is quite the adventurer and loves to get out. He often tends to break out of the fence, with my boys now living in another city I do not have the time he requires.
