Story
Meet Luna (aka Pound Cake, aka Loony Toons, aka Big Tuna), an approximately 9 year old chihuahua mix. Luna was surrendered in Charlotte by her owners due to a move. She struggled a lot in the shelter environment, defensive and too scared to let staff touch her. She was sprung from the shelter by a volunteer and within hours, she relaxed into her cuddly, attention-loving self. After some R&R in foster care, Luna is now ready to find her forever home! Luna is confident, affectionate, reliable, and an excellent companion. This gal has all the basics down - house trained, crate trained, good in the car, and great on a leash. Luna loves nothing more than a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood (she's been known to keep on trucking for up to 3 miles at a time if you let her) followed by a nap on the couch. Luna would do well as your one-and-only or as part of a pack. She's done well meeting other dogs (especially her size or smaller) and mostly carries on with her business - she's an independent lady! She tends to ignore the cats she's met. Although she hasn't met kids yet, Luna would probably prefer older, gentle kids who understand her age, boundaries, and need for a bit of extra care. Luna is a bit overweight at 18 pounds and will need help from her new family to get back to a healthy weight to ensure her golden years are her best yet. We're having her cloudy eye evaluated by a vet, but it doesn't seem to affect her vision. She can also be a bit standoffish with new people and fearful of being picked up, and would appreciate adopters who understand that time is needed to earn her trust. If you're ready for a short-n-sweet nugget of a buddy, Miss Luna is the lady for you! Apply to meet her today.

Story
Are you looking for a little lap dog?! If so, you need to meet Coraline, affectionately known as Cora! At a whopping 6 pounds of tan sweetness, Coraline is a 12-year-old chihuahua who has mastered the art of living her best life. A certified professional snuggler, Cora's ideal day involves being held like the royalty she is, carried around in a stylish baby sling (bonus points if it matches your outfit), or cuddling in the warmest lap available. Cora has some mild issues with her heart that she takes medication for. She saw a cardiac vet specialist who thinks she is at low risk for worsening of her condition if she continues taking her medication - yay! This pint-sized pup has impeccable leash manners and adores her daily walks, proving that even the smallest legs can cover a lot of ground. While Cora loves her foster dog sibling and gets along beautifully with any dog she meets, she's not shy to let you know if someone tries to step on her tiny toes - a chihuaha's signature sass! Cora thrives in a cozy environment where she can bask in attention and affection. She's the perfect mix of low-maintenance and lovable, and she's ready to find her forever throne-err, home. Could that be with you?

Story
Hi my name is Raven! I just turned 1 at the end of November this year! Over the last few weeks with my foster family, I have learned so many new things. My foster parents have helped me see that I don’t need to be afraid of humans! In fact if I roll over or look longingly at the humans it means I get LOTS of belly rubs and butt scratches (those are my FAVS!). I love to be right next to you at all times, but sometimes I will curl up in my bed for some me time. Peanut butter treats are the key to my heart! (I’d write that down). I am still shy sometimes but with lots of love and encouragement I come out of my shell. I love going on long walks and sniffing everything along the way. Be warned I like to pick our path, even though the humans stop me sometimes! The joke is on them because I still find ways to sniff out what I wanted. Overall I’m a really chill gal, but need lots of attention and belly rubs! I mentioned those earlier, they are non negotiable! I can’t wait to find my forever home! -Raven🐾🐦‍⬛

Story
Bella was born 4/9/17 so that makes her 6.5 years old. She weighs around 12 lbs. She loves to play tug of war and also likes to fetch. She is very active. She is also a total love bug. When you sit on the couch, she jumps right up and snuggles up right next to you. She will constantly nudge your hand wanting to be petted. She sleeps in the bed with you and crawls up under the covers to snuggle up next to you. She is also a chow hound. She is always begging for something to eat. She is taken out regularly when her foster mom is home. Once when her foster mom didn’t take her out soon enough, she started circling and her foster mom knew she was looking for a place to go. During the day while her foster mom is at work, Bella is left blocked off in her foster mom’s den. Pee pads are left down and she will go on them. She has not torn anything up and her foster mom is gone around 9 hours per day. Her previous foster crated her during the day and said she tore everything up and made a total mess. Her foster mom did lock her in a crate for about 3 hours one day, while she was gone, and she was fine. Bella is dog aggressive and will need to be an ONLY DOG. Even on leash when walking Bella reacts negatively to other dogs. Bella also has a high prey drive so would do best in a home without smaller animals.  Fence is required due to her dog aggression to ensure her safety.  Bella’s adoption fee is $300.00 If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. To submit an application go here……chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled. Your current dogs/cats must be spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has determined that your current pet(s) should not be fixed due to medical reasons. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative. Reference checks and a home visit are required so SE dogs can only be adopted in NC/SC, VA MD, AL, TN, and GA.

Story
Capi lives with another Chihuahua and is very protective of his owners. He is 8 years old and house trained. He can do simple commands but he is not fully trained. He loves being outdoors. He is a larger Chihuahua and loves his walks. He is not good with strangers or other strange dogs, he will bark. It took about 3 weeks for him to get used to another dog and now he is friendly. He is very food driven. If you give him a hand without a treat, he will bite. He expects a treat and if he does not get one, he gets mad. Otherwise he is very loving and cuddly. He does bark when someone is at the door. Capi is 11 lb. He does not ask to go outside but he gets walked 4 x day currently. He will ask to be fed - he eats twice a day.

Story
Lola loves being in a home with a yard. She is best with just her and the owner. She gets very attached to just one person and does not get along with anyone else in the household. She currently lives with another Chihuahua and she always competes for attention. She is happiest with a single adult, no kids and no other pets. She gets scared sometimes and other times she barks around strangers and other dogs but she will not bite. She is house trained but she needs to go out 5 x day because she is very small at 6.5 lb. Lola is 8 years old and she asks for a lot of attention and is very sweet. She likes to be around her owner all the time and does not like to be alone too long. She is very food driven. She is not trained, she only knows how to sit for a treat. She is very cuddly and loves to sleep on the couch. Her right back leg has a joint that misplaces sometimes but she is not in pain and does not require any surgeries or medication. She just has a hard time jumping up sometimes.

Story
I'm Wiley a Chihuahua-Staffordshire mix, and I am the whole package! I am very affectionate, smart, & brave! I live with three BIG dogs, and I'm not afraid to tell an 80 ILB Greyhound he's not playing with me enough. I'm high-energy, but when I'm tired- prepare for snuggles! I'm very food-motivated. I have three more weeks of training at All Dogs Allowed. I will need more training as I am very fearful of new sounds and places. I like other dogs, but I am a resource guarder. I will bite people and dogs over food. I'm catching on to potty training quickly & I'm already crate-trained! I am so super sweet. Want to spoil me by playing ball and taking me on long walks? Will you use positive reinforcement to teach me tricks that'll keep me busy? Call me!! Already have pets? Share your current veterinarian's contact information so my foster can confirm if your pet is up to date on vaccinations & spayed/neutered. I will only be adopted out to an indoor dog family.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Pinky is a confident gentleman who likes to burrow under blankets. At only 10 lbs, he's not like other tiny dogs! He does not bark unless he's lonely or he's excited to see you after you've been gone for a while. He walks well on a harness and leash. He currently lives with an older cat who is about his size but he is mostly indifferent to her. Pinky knows his name and will come when he's called. He is also quick to follow his humans up and down the stairs and out into the garden. Pinky loves his lambchop toy and has recently learned to fetch it.  Pinky is housetrained. He is neutered and current on all vaccines. He is ready to find his forever home. Please note that due to his tiny size, he'd do best in a home where any children are 8 years or older.     Click here to watch a video of Pinky.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 23, 2024, 6:03 pm

Story
Hi, I’m Taeri! I’m a 1-year-old male Pomsky (a mix of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky), weighing in at 11 kg (24 lbs). I may have the looks of a Husky, but I’m small in size and fully grown, making me the perfect bundle of fluff and charm. I was raised by humans in the past, so I absolutely adore people. Whether you’re a familiar face or someone I just met, I’ll happily trot up to say hello. I’m also great at making friends with other dogs—playdates are my favorite! I’m full of energy and love to play, so a home where I can run around in a yard or enjoy plenty of park time would make me very happy. While I’m a smart pup who’s already mastered “sit” and “paw,” I do have a bit of a stubborn streak on walks—I like to follow my nose wherever it takes me! But don’t worry, I’m in training and picking things up quickly. My eagerness to learn (and love for tasty treats) means I’ll soon be a pro. I have no trouble riding in cars or taking baths, and I prefer to avoid conflict when playing with other dogs. If a friend tries to pick a fight, I’ll simply walk away with my usual cool-headed charm. Sometimes, I get a little too excited when I see people or other pups far away and may bark, but it’s only because I want to join the fun. Oh, and I also have the Husky’s signature howling voice—it’s adorable, trust me! Since I’m still young, I’d do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. I thrive on companionship and may get a little anxious if left alone for too long. With my playful personality, loving nature, and one-of-a-kind charm, I’ll be the happiest little addition to your family. Are you ready to be my forever playmate and best friend? Let’s meet soon—I can’t wait to steal your heart! 🐾 To see more videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D946tKYX7-0&list=PLyEuMiuW6Ww4BHTOmA5UcUCNPcReXjx7I
