Story
Capi lives with another Chihuahua and is very protective of his owners. He is 8 years old and house trained. He can do simple commands but he is not fully trained. He loves being outdoors. He is a larger Chihuahua and loves his walks. He is not good with strangers or other strange dogs, he will bark. It took about 3 weeks for him to get used to another dog and now he is friendly. He is very food driven. If you give him a hand without a treat, he will bite. He expects a treat and if he does not get one, he gets mad. Otherwise he is very loving and cuddly. He does bark when someone is at the door. Capi is 11 lb. He does not ask to go outside but he gets walked 4 x day currently. He will ask to be fed - he eats twice a day.

Story
Lola loves being in a home with a yard. She is best with just her and the owner. She gets very attached to just one person and does not get along with anyone else in the household. She currently lives with another Chihuahua and she always competes for attention. She is happiest with a single adult, no kids and no other pets. She gets scared sometimes and other times she barks around strangers and other dogs but she will not bite. She is house trained but she needs to go out 5 x day because she is very small at 6.5 lb. Lola is 8 years old and she asks for a lot of attention and is very sweet. She likes to be around her owner all the time and does not like to be alone too long. She is very food driven. She is not trained, she only knows how to sit for a treat. She is very cuddly and loves to sleep on the couch. Her right back leg has a joint that misplaces sometimes but she is not in pain and does not require any surgeries or medication. She just has a hard time jumping up sometimes.

Story
Bella was born 4/9/17 so that makes her 6.5 years old. She weighs around 12 lbs. She loves to play tug of war and also likes to fetch. She is very active. She is also a total love bug. When you sit on the couch, she jumps right up and snuggles up right next to you. She will constantly nudge your hand wanting to be petted. She sleeps in the bed with you and crawls up under the covers to snuggle up next to you. She is also a chow hound. She is always begging for something to eat. She is taken out regularly when her foster mom is home. Once when her foster mom didn’t take her out soon enough, she started circling and her foster mom knew she was looking for a place to go. During the day while her foster mom is at work, Bella is left blocked off in her foster mom’s den. Pee pads are left down and she will go on them. She has not torn anything up and her foster mom is gone around 9 hours per day. Her previous foster crated her during the day and said she tore everything up and made a total mess. Her foster mom did lock her in a crate for about 3 hours one day, while she was gone, and she was fine. Bella is dog aggressive and will need to be an ONLY DOG. Even on leash when walking Bella reacts negatively to other dogs. Bella also has a high prey drive so would do best in a home without smaller animals.  Fence is required due to her dog aggression to ensure her safety.  Bella’s adoption fee is $300.00 If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. To submit an application go here……chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative. Reference checks and a home visit are required so SE dogs can only be adopted in NC/SC, VA MD, AL, TN, and GA.

Story
This sweetheart is Junie B Jones. Junie is a tan-colored female chihuahua in need of a forever home. It is estimated that Junie is between 7 years and 9 years old. She weighs 11 pounds. All Junie wants is love…she just needs some patience. She has been through what no creature should have to endure. The victim of animal cruelty, she has some trust issues, but she has come a long way in trusting her foster mom. She enjoys snuggles laying right by her side, but her eyes light up when invited to climb into the lap. She gets so excited when you come home, you can see the smile and joy in her eyes. The way she lays her head on the chest tells you how much she appreciates a gentle touch. Junie gets along with other dogs, but would rather be the only one getting all the attention. Being in a foster home with multiple dogs, she has gotten accustomed to their presence, and will join in when they run around the yard. She is a darling, beautiful, sweet little girl. She is not an active dog and is more of a couch potato, but she has her moments of playfulness. She loves doggie beds and blankets and will roll around in them and squeal with delight. Junie can be handled carefully. She will snuggle close or even climb in your lap once she gets to know you, which doesn’t take long. Junie is potty trained. She will walk on a leash, under protest, and if she gets scared, she will try to get out of the harness and run. Therefore, a fenced in yard is required. She is spayed and up to date on all vetting, including dental. Junie’s mouth was very diseased when she came to CRT and the vet had to extract most of her teeth. Junie is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm prevention. She is microchipped. She is a darling, beautiful, sweet little girl looking for her one and only. Junie’s adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. Story
Meet Denzel and Cameron! Denzel and Cameron are a bonded pair that entered CRT after their owner passed away. Denzel is estimated to be around 8 years old but possibly older and around 6.5 pounds. Cameron is believed to be around 14 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. As noted above, these boys are quite bonded and it is an absolute must that they be adopted to the same home. Cameron doesn’t even like there to be a door between himself and Denzel! Denzel is the smaller fawn-colored pup and Cameron is rust-colored and heavier. Denzel and Cameron’s foster mom reports that Cameron is a very sweet boy. Denzel can be grumpy at times and as he has snapped at a neighbor, should go to an adult only home or a home with respectful children who know how to respect small older dogs. Cameron has had a large growth removed from his leg. The vet said it looked like soft tissue osteosarcoma; unfortunately, the growth accidentally got thrown away so we had no biopsy to confirm this. Cameron’s knees don’t work well and he struggles to take the step from his foster mom’s porch to the yard and back but he has done it through sheer determination thus far. Cameron has also been noted on xray to have an enlarged heart and takes a daily medication for his heart. Both boys are potty trained. They are neutered and have been vetted. They are heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm prevention. They will be microchipped prior to adoption. Denzel and Cameron’s’ adoption donation is $550.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. Story
Meet Dutchess and Capone! Dutchess and Capone are a mom and son bonded pair of chihuahuas. They came to CRT as owner surrenders. Their owner loved them very much, but due to unforeseen circumstances could no longer care for them. Dutchess, the momma, is 13 years old and 5.5 pounds. Capone, her son, is 10 years old and about seven pounds. Dutchess is the smaller brown chihuahua, and Capone is slightly larger and tan colored. These two are extremely sweet and really are the perfect pair. They are a little shy at first until they get to know you, and then are very loving and want to be your lap buddies. Capone likes to follow his foster mom around in the house. Both love to be on the couch snuggling their foster mom while watching TV. Do not let their age fool you! They love to run, play, and explore outside in the yard and lounging in the sunshine. Dutchess and Capone are crate trained and housebroken. However, they love sleeping with their foster mom in the bed and use pet steps to get up on the bed. They walk well with a harness and leash and get along great with other dogs and do not mind cats. They are good with children as well. When they had their dentals, Dutchess lost all her teeth and Capone most of his teeth, so soft food works best. Dutchess and Capone are up to date on vaccines, spayed and neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and on HW prevention. Dutchess and Capones’ adoption donation is $500 ($250 each). If you are interested in the above dogs, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. Story
This guy is Dodger! Dodger is a 6 month old male chihuahua mix puppy in need of a forever home. Dodger’s mother, Dobby, entered CRT as a pregnant momma after her owner could no longer care for her. Dobby gave birth to her puppies, including Dodger, on 3/10/24. Dodger is tan with a little white on his chest. Dodger is currently 10.5 pounds.  Dodger loves to play with his siblings and the other pups in his foster home. He loves to run around outside! Dodger has not yet been around children, but his other foster siblings do great with children, so this may be the case with Dodger as well. Dodger gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. Dodger is working hard at perfecting his potty training skills. He is now leash trained!  Dodger appears to be healthy. Dodger has been fully vetted and has received his age-appropriate vaccinations. Dodger was neutered earlier this month and now is ready for adoption! Dodger will be microchipped prior to adoption. Dodger’s adoption donation is $350.  If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. Story
Meet Bob! Bob is a 2-year-old, 15 pound male chihuahua mix. He was surrendered to a shelter alongside 9 of his brothers and sisters and was very confused about what was happening! When he first came out of the shelter, all he wanted was to tuck his head and hide in the corner of his crate. Since then, he has blossomed into a cuddly and loving companion. We don’t have many details of what Bob’s life was like before joining CRT, but it seems like most things – being with people, playing with toys, and going on walks – are all brand new to him. That being said, he is a very quick learner and open-minded about his new world! After about 48 hours, he began snuggling with his foster mom, giving her gentle kisses on the nose, and trusting her to pick him up off the couch. He gets along well with his two foster siblings and has quickly learned the routine of the pack. He is very curious and loves to explore the yard and chew on new toys – but still gets a little frightened when they squeak! Since Bob has lived his life with many brothers and sisters around, it would be great if he went to a home with other fur-siblings, however he'd likely do fine as an only dog. We aren’t sure how he does with cats, but suspect he’d be fine with them as well. He should go to a home without children, or older children that know to respect his space. Bob is nearly house-broken and knows to go potty immediately after going outside, but occasionally will have an accident if not let out enough. He is making progress with learning how to use potty pads. Bob is totally fine being crated while his mom is at work but does not like being separated from his people if he knows they are home, especially at night! An adoptive family should be comfortable sharing their bed with this snuggle bug or be prepared to be patient with some barking while crate-training him at night. He is an excellent climber as well, so short playpens and gates are unable to contain him. Bob walks well on a leash and spends most of a walk right at your heel. However, he is prone to getting spooked by new noises outside and could probably escape a harness if he really wanted to, so adopters will need to be cautious on walks and have an AirTag on his collar. We are recommending for his forever family to have a fenced yard where he can relieve himself. If you’re looking for a super cuddly and loving new best friend, Bob is the perfect companion! Bob is neutered, UTD on vaccines, HW Negative, and on HW Preventative. He will be microchipped prior to adoption. His adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below.
