Story
Barbie and Ken lost their home when their mom moved to a nursing home. Barbie is agreeable to hang with other dogs but prefers to be with people as she is a dedicated lap sitter. She’s good in a crate but I’m sure she would love a home where she was someone’s constant companion. Barbie is completely house trained, not a barker and not destructive.

Story
Ken and Barbie lost their home when their mom moved to a nursing home. Ken is a fun little dog. Although he does enjoy a human lap, he’s also happy to play with other dogs. Ken has some good energy and enjoys being outside exploring or taking walks. He’s a gentleman in the house, he’s crate trained, not a barker and totally house trained. Nice little dog!

Story
The smallest of dogs can fill a heart with love and healing. This cute little guy hopes for your love and healing. Target (or Tarzshjay) is an adult neutered male Chihuahua mix found as a stray. He needs hip surgery and he needs you. VFA will pay for all of his medical care. He needs a foster or adoptive home to provide recovery care. Love is the greatest healing therapy and Target hopes for yours. If you have love and care to share, please contact us at info@vol4animals. org Target has had his surgery and is currently recovering in a foster home.   Adoption Procedures Volunteers For Animals periodically pulls dogs from other shelters to free up space; this helps avoid euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. We are able to do this through the generosity of many people such as the originating shelter staff, transporters, foster volunteers and others who help with pulling fees, vet bills and finding good homes once they are here. The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the rescues animals can range from $100 to $300 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If you are interested in any of the Rescue dogs, please email us. Do not call the Shelter regarding rescue animals - they have no information about these dogs. All rescue animals are in foster homes with volunteers - NOT at the Shelter - unless otherwise noted.      Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.November 2, 2024, 4:17 pm

Story
The Kramer family has chosen to sponsor the costs of transport and medical care for the 17 Walworth dogs as a gift in honor of all our fur babies we have lost over the years and all my friends' fur babies that have also crossed the Rainbow Bridge - none will ever be forgotten.  Our wish is that each of the Walworth-furred ones find loving homes where they are cherished.  Love, Cheryl, Dave, Ryan, and Cassie Kramer   Benny, born around August 1, 2020 and weighing approximately 13 pounds, came from a home in the Rochester area that needed assistance with their 30 dogs. The owners welcomed too many dogs into their home and eventually became overwhelmed, leading them to seek help. Benny is a delightful little fellow who loves his humans dearly. He may try to herd them if they stray off course, and watch out for playful nibbles on exposed toes, making him unsuitable for homes with small children. Initially shy around strangers, once Benny warms up to you, he becomes the most affectionate companion, eager to cuddle in your lap after some play time fun.  Benny is house trained but we like to mention that often these small dogs benefit from having potty floor pads handy for those just in case moments.  He's comfortable riding in cars, walking on a leash, and even enjoys kayaking—anything to be close to his people. Benny's cheerful demeanor and compatibility with other dogs, regardless of size, make him an exceptional pet who could easily become your most cherished companion.  Benny is also fine with cats. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. Story
Henry was born around May 24, 2012 and weighs about 10 pounds.   Henry is with us because his owner needed to go into assisted living.  We were told that the previous owner was a heavy drinker and smoked cigarettes one after another all day.  If this is true we wonder how Henrys lungs will do as he continues to age.  Right now Henry is living his best life loving clean indoor air and the outdoors and investigating everything he can.  When he's sure all the days smells have been properly investigated, he's ready to curl up and observe his surroundings next to his favorite humans on the couch.  We feel his hearing and sight are not the best but then again he is supposed to be 12 years old.   Henry has been great with the other dogs here but has no interest in playing with them and rambunctious youngsters get a stern talking to if they disturb his peace.   Henry loves his people but we would not put him in a home with young humans as sometimes his Chihuahua comes out if you ask him to do something he would rather not....did we mention he was 12?  Henry has some lumps and bumps but at his age we won't be getting them tested.  We will be evaluating him for a dental soon but at first glimpse, his teeth look shockingly good.  So this is Henry and he makes us laugh and we are so glad we will be able to help him find his happily ever after.     The Adoption Fee for this dog is $300.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Story
The Smith-Kinley transport came to us from Niagara Falls!  Joyful Rescues feels strongly that, because of the drastic dog overpopulation problem that resulted due to human behavior during the pandemic, that we  must do the responsible thing and focus our efforts in our own western NY region.  The population problem has also created an environment ripe for increased animal hoarding when good hearted humans take on more than they have the resources to care for them which is the case for the 9 dogs and 3 cats that arrived here in pretty rough shape.  A few of the dogs have no teeth and the others will need a dental, which we will do for them, and with this much neglect they will likely need a second dental in the near future so we want to be sure, if you choose to open your home to one of them, that you will be prepared for this cost.  Everyone's nails were overgrown, and the longer haired ones were terribly matted and even had some twigs embedded in the mats.  Any donations toward their care would surely be appreciated.  Some of them are a bit shy at first, but they've been through a lot and we feel given a bit of time they will be the loves of your life! Monty was born about April 18, 2017 and weighs about 9 lbs.  Once Monty trusts you, which doesn't take long, he is terribly sweet and is loving the human attention.  He is extremely good with the other dogs and the cats and did very well on the two-hour car ride here.  We don't know about house training and until we can update with that information, we want to let you know there will likely be some work in that area and potty floor pads are always a good idea for these tiny dogs. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_450.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability.
