Story
Meet Little Bit! He is a 10 year old chihuahua senior. Don't let his age fool you though! This little guy still has plenty of energy. He hardly walks, he loves to run around as quick as his little legs can take him. Little Bit came to us with a tail injury that has since been corrected with surgery. His hair has not grown back on his tail and we are unsure if it will or not. He is crate trained and house trained. He is a very good listener, he will always come when he is called and will stay close to you outside so does not necessarily need to be on a leash. He loves to be given attention, especially neck and butt scratchies. He gets SUPER excited for food time. He will do pretty much anything for a treat and run around in excitement for it. Little Bit has previously lived with cats and does well with them according to another foster. He has also lived with his chihuahua brother, Tiny. He seems to get along better with smaller dogs. We currently have 4 bigger dogs in the house with him and he does not care as long as they are not in his space. If you are interested in adopting Little Bit, apply today! http://www.coldnosewarmheart.org/dog-application.html @cnwhnj @coldnosewarmheartnj

Story
This is our foster, Tiny 🥰 he is a 15 year old chihuahua who was surrendered because his owner couldn't take care of him anymore. He loves to make blanket forts (yes he did these himself 😍) and smiles at you when you pick him up. And so far within his stay, he appears to be house broken! He lets us know when he has to go outside. He does have some health issues that are managed by medications, but with the way this guy lives his life you would never know. Even tho he has some years on him, the old dogs bring the most beautiful experience in my opinion. Coming from a girl who just lost her senior dog she adopted years ago, I can tell you it is 1000% worth it. No dog deserves to live the rest of their years in a shelter. They will be forever grateful to you and give you their whole heart. Our little Tiny deserves this chance. He is still full of life and needs someone to share it with ❤️ http://www.coldnosewarmheart.org/dog-application.html @cnwhnj @coldnosewarmheartnj

Story
Allergic to cats but always dreamed of adopting one? Here is your perfect feral street cat in a dog’s body! Moe is a middle aged chi mix who originally came from a hoarding situation where he was clearly never ever touched. Probably even by his owner. He’s been in a great foster for a while and has made tremendous progress, but he needs someone who will accept him for who he is, and will probably never be the type of dog who will run over asking to be picked up and cuddled or greeting strangers at the door happily. Well, maybe 10 years from now when he’s blind, deaf, and arthritic he won’t mind being held and cuddled, but he’s a long way off from that. He thrives on routine and following his “pack” of doggie friends around. He actually seems to prefer the man of the house and will finally lay by him and allow some petting, but is still terrified of being leashed and most handling. He runs around happily wagging his tail, playing with the other dogs and loves his life as long as his limits are respected and is hoping to find a permanent pack where the dogs outnumber the humans in the household and he won’t be under pressure to conform to societal norms of how a dog should act. If you too would rather be surrounded by dogs than people, and don’t mind having another little furry member following you around at snack time and watching the world go by perched on your couch, email njwoof@cs.com to meet Moe in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Lulu Too! ! Yes the exclamation mark is part of her name, because she’s a Chihuahua and excited about it! (And we already have the spicy OG Lulu still looking for a home with us, so we can’t have any confusion). This 6lbs tiny girl needed to be out of her home the day they called animal control (always great planning when you are giving up your dog to wait until hours before you are moving), but luckily she avoided the shelter where she would have been terrified and came right to us. She warms up and bonds quickly and once she loves you she’s a cuddly little lapdog constantly begging and scratching at your leg to be picked up. But she’s been known to bond to one person and be a feisty little protector so will need a calmer adult home that knows the breed. She hasn’t had much exposure to other dogs prior to coming to us and seems a little overwhelmed by them but probably could get along with calmer tiny dogs that will give her space. She and the other Lulu seemed to bond over their shared name and tolerated each other. We were told she was 6 years old… she seems a little older than that but maybe prematurely grey from the stress of life as a tiny chihuahua in a big scary world. But still probably middle-aged or less for a hopefully very long-lived little chi. She’s looking for someone who understands chihuahua culture, won’t be put off if she acts a little ferocious to scare people off at times, and will love and protect her unconditionally as she will you. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Lulu Too! in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ.
