Story
This adorable litter of Chihuahua mix puppies has already overcome so much in their short lives. Born to a feral mother who didn’t know how to care for them, these resilient little ones were found in rough shape, suffering from skin issues and malnourishment. At 9 weeks old and around 8 pounds each, they’re well on their way to a full recovery and are expected to grow to about 25 pounds, just like their mom. Despite their tough start, these pups are full of love and potential. With the right care and attention, they’re ready to thrive and become loyal, playful companions. Their sweet personalities are starting to shine as they heal, and they’re now looking for homes where they can grow and be cherished. If you’re ready to help these tiny fighters write their happy ending, come meet the Fantastic Four and give them the loving forever homes they deserve. Story
Meet Little Bit! He is a 10 year old chihuahua senior. Don't let his age fool you though! This little guy still has plenty of energy. He hardly walks, he loves to run around as quick as his little legs can take him. Little Bit came to us with a tail injury that has since been corrected with surgery. His hair has not grown back on his tail and we are unsure if it will or not. He is crate trained and house trained. He is a very good listener, he will always come when he is called and will stay close to you outside so does not necessarily need to be on a leash. He loves to be given attention, especially neck and butt scratchies. He gets SUPER excited for food time. He will do pretty much anything for a treat and run around in excitement for it. Little Bit has previously lived with cats and does well with them according to another foster. He has also lived with his chihuahua brother, Tiny. He seems to get along better with smaller dogs. We currently have 4 bigger dogs in the house with him and he does not care as long as they are not in his space. Story
Allergic to cats but always dreamed of adopting one? Here is your perfect feral street cat in a dog’s body! Moe is a middle aged chi mix who originally came from a hoarding situation where he was clearly never ever touched. Probably even by his owner. He’s been in a great foster for a while and has made tremendous progress, but he needs someone who will accept him for who he is, and will probably never be the type of dog who will run over asking to be picked up and cuddled or greeting strangers at the door happily. Well, maybe 10 years from now when he’s blind, deaf, and arthritic he won’t mind being held and cuddled, but he’s a long way off from that. He thrives on routine and following his “pack” of doggie friends around. He actually seems to prefer the man of the house and will finally lay by him and allow some petting, but is still terrified of being leashed and most handling. He runs around happily wagging his tail, playing with the other dogs and loves his life as long as his limits are respected and is hoping to find a permanent pack where the dogs outnumber the humans in the household and he won’t be under pressure to conform to societal norms of how a dog should act. If you too would rather be surrounded by dogs than people, and don’t mind having another little furry member following you around at snack time and watching the world go by perched on your couch, email njwoof@cs.com to meet Moe in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Kipper! This 6 year old chi mix was unceremoniously surrendered to the local pound, infested with fleas 🤢. Moving, financial issues, too protective, a bunch of different reasons given that they just couldn’t keep him anymore 🤷‍♀️. He was terrified surrounded by big barking dogs, though with his big brown eyes he always has a bewildered expression. Chihuahuas are so loyal and committed to their people so being alone in the big scary world is especially traumatic, but he’s warming up. He’s a typical undersocialized chi who isn’t passing any temperament tests or running up and kissing strangers but once he trusts he’s a sweet boy with those he loves. He is 8.5 lbs and looks like a longhair chi maybe mixed with some Pom or Papillon with a soft plush coat. He’s looking for a calmer adult home that understands protective nervous chi and their limits and will gradually socialize him in a positive way to new people and places. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Kipper in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet Louise! This 7 year old chi girl has gorgeous marking and marble eyes, and is a shy but sweet loyal little soul. She was devastated when her mom surrendered her and just watching for her to come back 😢. But they had infant human twins and no time to care for their first baby anymore 😔 Louise hasn’t been too well socialized around other animals and is scared of other dogs, and would probably prefer a nice quiet home where she can be your one and only. She’s not going to be happy in a multidog foster home with us and we are URGENTLY looking to get her settled in a new home ASAP. She barks at first with new people but isn’t aggressive and warms up quickly and asks to be picked up and held. She’s about 13lbs, in good health and we just got her a dental so she’s ready to find a true forever home where she won’t be replaced by human babies again. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Louise in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ.
