Story
Olaf, the chocolate Chihuahua, is about 4.5 years old and looking for the perfect, quiet home with someone who is familiar with anxious and fearfully reactive dogs. He would do best in a home with no children, and not a lot of visitors. Cats are a no go for Olaf as are most other dogs. He would be ok with one small, submissive, low-key doggie friend as he likes to play occasionally, but he isn't very good at normal dog play. We lovingly think of Olaf's personality as a cat trapped in a dog's body. Olaf takes a daily anxiety medication to help him feel safe in his everyday environment. Olaf will need an understanding and patient person that will allow him space and decompression time when he gets overstimulated. Olaf is crate trained and for the most part potty trained. However, like any small dog he isn’t a fan of going outside in the rain or cold. He walks wonderfully on leash as long as no off leash dogs approach him, and he also loves to travel in the car. He does like affection on his own terms and will let you know when he no longer wants attention. Olaf's perfect home will need to be willing to give him time and show him patience as he is settling in to your lifestyle, they must also be willing to continue working on training to ensure he lives a happy and safe life. Most importantly Olaf will need a person that is NOT expecting a snuggly lap dog. While he will occasionally snuggle and sit on your lap, it will only happen when he chooses it. His perfect person would be looking for a tiny, quirky shadow that is content with his mere presence as companionship. Olaf is spay/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, heartworm tested and on prevention. Adoption fee for Olaf is $350. If you are interested in adopting Olaf, please fill out an adoption application http://www.furgetusnotrescue.org/application.html .

Story
Hey! My name is Bota McBooty-Shaker! I’m a six-year-old, 15-pound chihuahua/rat terrier mix and I’m looking for the love of my life! I’ve traveled far and wide searching for my soulmate. After arriving at GLDR, I was lucky enough to enjoy a nice straycation. Now I know exactly what I’m looking for in a family! House-trained and crate-trained, I’ve been told I’m an excellent house guest. I love to spend my days chilling on the couch and cruising the neighborhood for walks. I’m a rockstar on my leash and do great meeting dogs in social situations. However, when it comes to our home, I prefer to be king of the castle! I’ve done well with other pups my size but think I’d be happiest as the center of your world. I’ve also lived with cats and did well with them in my previous foster home. When it comes to food, I can barely contain my excitement! You’ll often see me doing a few spins in anticipation of a tasty treat or meal. I know how to sit and stay and will always do what I can to make you proud! I have no issue with stairs and love to explore everywhere we go! In case you work at home, I make an excellent coworker. I’m happy to sit quietly on your lap while you work. I offer great support and will alway listen when you need to vent about your job! I consider myself to be an honorable man and I’m looking for a true partner. I promise to make you my whole world and be your hero who will protect you all the days of my life. At the end of a relaxing day, I like to unwind with a nice snuggle session with my person. I love to lean in and lay on your chest and will share the most tender kisses with you! Then it’s off to bed where I sleep quietly through the night. My dream home would be an active but predictable one where I can be the star of the show. I prefer to live with adults who appreciate me for the man I am. When it comes to other pups, I can be selective and could do well with another pup my size, though if I’m being honest, I think I’d prefer to roll as the solo dog. I know chihuahuas can have a bit of a reputation but the truth is I’m just a boy… looking for a girl… asking her to love him! And as an added bonus I can shake my booty with the best of them! If you think I could be the pup of your dreams, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application! Hope to see you soon!

Lucy has had formal training. She is a great hiking buddy. She has lived in a house with children, she is loving to people she knows. She would do best in a home where she is the only dog. She does the best when she has consistent training, lots of walks and enrichment.
