The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Story
Lola is sweet and pretty laid back. She is a little shy to new people but warms up quickly. Can be a little vocal at times but mostly loves to get cuddles on the couch, be swirled up under a blanket or enjoying some zoomies around the yard when it's warm and sunny. She's potty trained and crate trained. Due to my busy schedule in the medical field she does not get the attention/free time she deserves. She's getting down in the dumps so I'd love for someone with more free time to enjoy her calming snuggles.

Story
Meet Dewey! He came in with Gizmo when their family was moving and they couldn't take Gizmo and Dewey with them. Dewey is 7-8 years old and weighs around 13lbs. He appears to be a chihuahua mix. He was very nervous when he first arrived, but has relaxed more after spending some time with us. He is looking for someone who understands chihuahuas and that will give him time to open up. We believe he would do best in a home free from small children that might not respect his space. Dewey did test positive for heartworm. He has started treatment. However, we'd love for him to relax in a home until he finishes his treatment. He is currently only available for foster or foster to adopt. He will likely be cleared for adoption in August. Al-Van completely covers the cost of treating heartworm, his foster would be responsible for brining Dewey to his vet appointments. His foster has to live within a reasonable drive to South Haven, MI. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. If you are interested in fostering to adopt Dewey please fill out an application at al-van.org/adopt. *Some pet-finding websites aside from our own are very slow to update after an animal is adopted, and this is outside of our control. To see the most up-to-date list of animals available, please go to al-van.org/adopt.*

Story
Daisy is 6.6 pounds of cuddly long haired chihuahua mix. At 12 years old she is looking for a retirement home with a comfy couch where she can snooze in the sun. She does well with other dogs and is very laid back so we are guessing respectful kids and cats would be just fine with her. Daisy does have a heart murmur but she takes her medicine every day no problem. If you are looking for a quiet, snuggly companion, well Daisy is your girl! Daisy is spayed, microchipped, and current on her vaccines. Her adoption fee is $175 and you can apply at www.rescueofhope.com/adopt/ ##2055148##

Story
Stella is a around 2 or 3 years old and tips the scales at 13 pounds.  She loves to play with her toys, enjoy a sniffy walk with her human, and a good belly rub. But her favortie thing ... to snuggle under the covers and sleep next to her person all night. She made us promise to put that in here. Stella is doing great wiht her potty training and crate training!  If you're looking for a best friend that is the perfect balance of snuggles and indpendence, Stella is your girl!  She does have a Grade 3 heart murmur, but nothing that requires medication or veterinary intervention at this time. Stella is current on vaccines, microchipped, and will be spayed before she heads on to her forever home! Her adoption fee is $275 and you can apply to adopt her at www.rescueofhope.com/adopt/ ##2081562##
