You will be over the MOON with this wonderful little man. He is the sweetest! Moon is a 2 year old Chihuahua mix and weighs about 22 pounds. He loves his toys, loves his people, and does a pretty good job at playing fetch - even brings his gingerbread man when asked. His foster mom says he also shakes and sits on command and is learning basic manners. Moon prefers to be the only 4 legged member of the family. The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Story
*SPECIAL NEEDS - MENTALLY CHALLENGED- secure fenced yard - companion dog required* Meet Money Penny!   She's 8 yrs old, 14 lbs, Chihuahua Mix. Penny is a Special Needs Dog due to genetics. She was brought into rescue with 3 other dogs we believe were siblings.  She's fine physically . Her biggest issue is her fear, slow comprehension and super sensitive t o noises and she'll run to safe zone.   She eats well, and she will take food & treats from your fingers. She does hang sometimes with the other dogs as seen in the photos. So having another dog in home is a must for her to understand how to be a dog. She can not be handle but she will sit in the room on a dog bed or next to you on a couch if other dogs are around. She is not a lap dog. Because she is frightened quickly, she has not been taken outside because not sure how noises outside and the wide-open space would affect her and whether she will be controllable. Foster home is still working on that. She is 95% potty pad trained. Sometimes when she hears a noise and runs, she may potty just because of running. But 95% of the time she used potty pads. PENNY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO WOULD JUST LET HER LIVE QUIETLY AND LEARN TO BE PART OF THE FAMILY. If you think you would like to make Penny part of your family, please fill out an Adoption Application and someone will call and talk to you about her personality.  She is a very sweet dog but not sure if she will ever adjust to loud noises. If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Money’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. SECURE FENCE  (no electric fences) REQUIRED “Meet Harris….an adorable little 5 year old Chihuahua/Toy Fox Terrier mix, weighing approx 9 pounds. He was found as a stray in a St. Louis neighborhood, and after he was taken to a shelter, he was never claimed by anyone.   Harris is very friendly, happy, snuggly, and sometimes playful. He would do best in a home with another small adult dog for companionship, no children, and a “secure” fenced yard. Harris is healthy, current on his immunizations, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped, and he has just recently had his teeth cleaned.”   If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. He came to our rescue group after being found in a hoarder’s home with 14 other Chihuahua’s who were neglected and abused. Hank is a very sweet, friendly, playful, and extremely snuggly little guy. He requires a home with another small playful dog that is near his age and energy level for companionship, a secure fenced yard to go potty and run and play in, and no children living in the home. Hank is healthy, current on his immunizations, heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped.” If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Story
** ADOPTER HAVING DOG SOCIALIZATION SKITTISH EXPERIENCE & PATIENCE IS PREFERRED** ** JANICE REQUIRES ANOTHER DOG IN THE HOME & FENCED YARD FOR SAFETY** QUIETER HOME & NO KIDS TO KEEP JANICE FROM DOOR DARTING ** Meet our Sweet Janice Joplin! She's a 2 yr old, 14 lb, Terrier Mix. Janice was rescued on Jan 15 from a Hoarder/Breeder situation, with very little socialization and she's been with fosters since being rescued in January, learning how to be a dog using other dogs as mentors for her. She REQUIRES another companion dog in the family and would LOVE for that dog to be a player!! She LOVES to play and run with other dogs! When she sees other dogs thru the fence, she barks a lot due to excitement! She also barks a lot when you return home and the excitement she shows to be happy to see you! She does not like you to touch or pet her yet and it will be her learning skill as she becomes part of your family. She's close to that stage but still does not understand human touch. When you're in the room, she'll lay across from you in a dog bed on the sofa watching you and the other dogs. She seems to REALLY want to be normal but is still afraid when you reach down to touch her. She's housebroken but occasionally, she will pee on a potty pad late in the night. Not sure if that's because she didn't take time to go before bed.  It's random. She will not walk on leash and growls when you touch her or pick her up. She never bites, but just growls to let you know she's afraid. Once you catch her, foster parents were able to put her in bathtub and give her a bath and dry her off. Gives you a better chance for her to sit in your lap. She is afraid of it but the more "lap time" she gets, the more she will adapt. We think that if she found the perfect family who understand semi-feral dogs like her and will accommodate her needs and show her love forever, she may grow with you and let you pet her eventually.  These types of dogs seem to try really hard to be like the other dogs.   If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Janice Joplin’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. Story
Secure Fence (no electric fences) and companion dog REQUIRED Meet Dollar or “Dolly” a small 12 pound Chihuahua Mix.  We think she may be around 7 or 8 years old. Dolly is an extremely sweet dog but is also a nervous dog, but she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. Please read her entire bio to learn more about her . Dolly came from a home with many other dogs where she wasn’t given a lot of socialization.  Because of this there are things that scare her such as certain noises. The sound of Velcro, crinkling paper and fireworks. Reaching down to pick her up is also scary to her. She usually runs to her bed and then you can pick her up with no problem. Dolly does go outside to potty but sometimes going out the door is scary for her so her foster picks her up to take her outside.  Once outside she runs like the wind and loves being out in the fenced yard playing and chasing her foster buddies.  She will come back inside on her own with no problem.  She is also potty pad trained if not taken outside. She loves the other small dogs in her foster home so she will need a dog of similar size in the home. She will also need a completely secure fenced yard.  I f you do not have a secure fence and a small companion dog, please do not apply.  Dolly is not leash trained and probably never will be for her own safety. She can be a barker so no apartments for this girl. Due to Dolly's nervous nature, she will not be placed in a home with kids, only for her own safety as she is a big flight risk. When it’s time to sit and relax on the sofa, Dolly is the first one there and is on your lap practically before you sit down.  She is a silly little girl who loves being with her foster mom.  She would stay on your lap all day if you’d let her but sometimes foster mom has other things to do. Her foster mom is so proud of this little girl and the progress she has made in the time she’s been here.  When she first arrived, she wouldn’t even come into the same room and would not dare let anyone even touch her and now she a total lap dog, with a few quirks. She’s looking for that one special person who can accept her for who she is to give her the quiet home she so deserves. If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO.
